The look in his eyes was not like the loving kindness that an elder would show to his younger generation. Instead, it was like he was staring at something particularly precious.
When Gu Youran swayed her body to the music, her master suddenly clenched the teacup in his hand and didn't even notice that the tea spilled out.
Shi Heng's eyes turned cold instantly.
He moved quietly, blocking part of his master's sight with his body.
The master seemed to notice Shi Heng's actions, retracted his gaze, and returned to his usual gentle expression.
But the abnormality at that moment was already deeply engraved in Shi Heng's mind.
After the performance, children flocked to him for autographs.
Gu Youran squatted down and patiently signed autographs and took photos with each child.
The master stepped forward and took out a handkerchief, "You'er, wipe the sweat off your face."
His hand was about to touch Gu Youran's forehead.
Shi Heng rushed forward and wiped Gu Youran's forehead with his handkerchief. "Are you tired?"
Gu Youran raised her head and smiled sweetly at him, "I'm fine, just my throat is a little dry."
The master's hand froze in mid-air, then he slowly withdrew it. "I'll make you some honey water."
Shi Heng immediately put his arm around Gu Youran's waist and said, "No need, Master. We brought some throat-soothing tea. Let's go back to our room and rest first."
The master stared at Shi Heng for a few seconds, said nothing, and turned away.
The two walked back to the room together.
Shi Heng closed the door and locked it.
He pushed Gu Youran against the wall and pressed his body against her.
Gu Youran opened his eyes wide and asked in confusion, "What's wrong?"
Shi Heng lowered his head, gently bit her ear, and whispered, "You looked at Master twenty-seven times today, and only smiled at me three times."
Gu Youran couldn't help but laugh out loud: "You're actually counting this?"
Shi Heng said with a straight face, "I'm not happy."
Gu Youran blinked, then suddenly leaned forward and kissed him on the lips, then asked with a smile, "Are you happy now?"
Shi Heng's eyes suddenly became deep.
He held Gu Youran's head with one hand, and her waist with the other, and kissed her deeply.
Just as they were kissing, there were light footsteps in the corridor outside the door.
The footsteps stopped outside their door for a few seconds, then quietly left.
In the kitchen at noon, Gu Youran was cutting vegetables in an apron, the master was cooking on the side, and Yun Feiyang was busy peeling garlic.
The three of them were talking and laughing.
At the same time, Shi Heng was wandering alone in the yard.
Suddenly he was attracted by a half-open door.
Push the door open and look around.
A row of beautifully framed sketches hung on the wall.
It’s all Gu Youran.
There are silhouettes of her practicing guitar, sleeping, and even a portrait of her as a teenager.
Each painting is dated in the lower right corner, the most recent being last month.
Shi Heng frowned, reached out to take down a painting for a closer look, and suddenly smelled a special sandalwood scent.
He sniffed. The smell was different from the sandalwood he usually smelled, and seemed to be mixed with a hint of sweetness.
"Aheng? It's time for dinner." Gu Youran's voice came from the door.
Shi Heng withdrew his hand and turned to the door, "These paintings..."
Gu Youran walked in and said with a smile, "These were all painted by Master. He always said I was his proudest work."
There was pride in her tone, and she didn't think there was anything wrong.
Shi Heng pointed to the small glass jar on the shelf in the corner and said, "This sandalwood scent is very special."
"Because they added that dried flower of the Seven-Day Corydalis."
Gu Youran picked up the jar, which contained a few dried white flowers. They were shaped like miniature lilies, but the centers of the flowers were a rare blue-purple color.
"Seven-Day Palm?" Shi Heng walked over and observed it carefully. "It's a very unique name."
"It blooms once every seven years and dies after seven days. My master said it has the effect of calming the mind and helping with sleep, so I've been adding it to sandalwood for many years."
Gu Youran put the jar back and said, "Let's go. The food is getting cold."
Shi Heng took out his cell phone and took a few photos. When Gu Youran turned around, he quietly took out a dried flower and put it in his pocket.
He followed Gu Youran as if nothing had happened and returned to the restaurant together.
Lunch ended in a somewhat silent atmosphere.
Gu Youran helped to clean up the dishes.
Shi Heng noticed that her master's eyes were following her figure.
After lunch, the sun was shining brightly.
Gu Youran took Shi Heng's arm and stood at the gate of "The Other Shore's Home" ready to leave.
"Master, senior brother, let's go!" Gu Youran waved at the two of them with a bright smile on her face.
The master smiled and nodded, "We will be there on time on the 11th of next month."
He turned to Shi Heng, his eyes meaningful, "Take good care of You Ran."
Shi Heng hugged Gu Youran's waist tightly and looked directly into his master's eyes, "Of course."
Yun Feiyang helped them load their luggage into the car and patted Shi Heng on the shoulder, "Be careful on the road."
Two cars drove away from the orphanage one after the other.
Gu Youran and Shi Heng sat in the back seat. She leaned on his shoulder and said to Mark in the driver's seat, "Let's go to the Rose Garden Cemetery first."
Shi Heng turned to look at her, "Are you going to meet your adoptive parents?"
Gu Youran nodded, her eyes slightly shining, "I want to tell them in person that we are getting married."
She held Shi Heng's hand and said, "They will definitely like you."
Two hours later, the car stopped in front of a quiet cemetery.
The afterglow of the setting sun dyed the tombstone golden, and the surrounding area was shaded by green trees.
Gu Youran took out a carefully prepared bouquet of pink roses from the trunk and took Shi Heng along the stone path to a double tombstone.
In the photo on the tombstone, a middle-aged couple smiles warmly and lovingly.
"Alan, Lisa," Gu Youran called softly, her voice trembling slightly, "I'm going to be a bride next month."
She bent down and placed the rose in front of the tombstone, then turned to look at Shi Heng with tears in her eyes, "This is my husband Shi Heng."
Shi Heng stepped forward and bowed solemnly to the tombstone. "I will protect Youran with my life, please rest assured."
A breeze blew by, and the rose petals trembled slightly, as if in response.
Gu Youran softly sang a ballad with a beautiful melody, which was a tune her adoptive mother often hummed when she was alive.
The song echoed softly in the quiet cemetery, carrying with it a strong sense of longing.
Shi Heng stood quietly by, watching the heartwarming scene of Gu Youran "talking" with her adoptive parents.
After singing the song, Gu Youran gently wiped the corners of his eyes, turned to Shi Heng and said, "Let's go. I'll take you to see where I lived when I was a child."
Leaving the cemetery, the two cars drove into a quiet town.
The cobblestone road is lined with quaint buildings, and people are walking in groups of three or two on the street. The whole town exudes a leisurely atmosphere.
"It's the house with the blue roof." Gu Youran pointed to a two-story building not far away. His voice trembled a little, and his fingers unconsciously clenched the corner of his clothes.
The car slowly stopped in front of the door.
Gu Youran took out an old key from her bag. Her hands were shaking slightly and she tried twice but failed to align it with the keyhole.
Shi Heng's warm big hand covered the back of her slightly cold hand and helped her open the door steadily.
The house was spotless, and sunlight shone through the white gauze curtains onto the wooden floor.
