In the following filming, Gu Youran got into the role very quickly and almost got it right in one take.
Shi Heng sat next to Director Cen and watched the monitor. Every time she finished a shot, she would meet his approving gaze.
It was almost dinner time and she had finished filming her scenes for the day.
Gu Youran took off her makeup, and her plain face still showed a little fatigue, with a faint blue color under her eyes.
Shi Heng took the bag from her, held her hand, and said, "Thank you for your hard work. I'll take you to dinner."
An hour later, the black Maybach stopped in front of the golden gate of the Emperor Club.
The general manager came forward and said, "Mr. Shi, the tasting room has been prepared according to your request."
The elevator went directly to the Starry Sky Banquet Hall on the top floor. Gu Youran was surprised to find that the entire hall had been transformed into a wedding rehearsal venue.
In the center is a round table covered with a champagne-colored tablecloth, surrounded by ten seats, each with a gold-plated menu in front of it.
"The wedding ceremony will be held on the top floor of the 111th floor of the Shi's Building, and the banquet will be held here." Shi Heng pulled out a chair for her. "I tried 138 dishes and finally selected these."
Following his signal, the waiter slowly came in pushing the food cart.
Each dish is carefully presented on scaled-down tableware, like a work of art.
"I'm afraid you can't finish it all, so I made them into bite-sized portions." Shi Heng flipped through the menu. "Would you like to start with the cold dishes?"
The first dish is crystal shrimp dumplings, with whole shrimps wrapped in skin as thin as a cicada's wing.
As soon as Gu Youran bit through the skin, the sweet soup filled her mouth.
"This shrimp..." She opened her eyes wide.
"We air-shipped these prawns from Hokkaido this morning." Shi Heng wiped the soup from the corners of her mouth with a handkerchief. "I specially asked someone to go to Zhenjiang to find a master chef to mix the vinegar."
Next is the bird's nest stewed with matsutake mushrooms, the soup is clear and you can see the bottom.
Shi Heng explained, "After stewing for eight hours, all the fat is filtered out, so it won't be greasy."
Gu Youran scooped a spoonful and drank it slowly.
The temperature of the soup was just right, neither hot nor cold, and my throat felt a little better.
She noticed that there was a thick notebook in front of Shi Heng, which was densely filled with records of the ingredients and cooking time of each dish.
"Did you try these yourself?"
"Hmm." Shi Heng turned to a certain page and pointed at it. "For this abalone braised rice, I tried seven kinds of rice and finally chose Koshihikari rice from Country R."
As the dishes came one by one, Gu Youran discovered that each dish was filled with ingenious ideas.
The lotus leaf bun was filled with her favorite truffle sauce, the steamed fish was topped with her favorite enoki mushrooms, and even the dessert was a low-sugar version of mango pudding.
The waiter brought three glasses of champagne and two glasses of white wine.
"Champagne is for toasting at weddings, and white wine is for elders."
Shi Heng lined up the wine glasses and asked, "Try it?"
Gu Youran took small sips and her eyes lit up when she was on the third glass of champagne. "This one has a honey aroma!"
"You really know your stuff." Shi Heng smiled and took notes. "This is Salon Champagne. The annual production is less than 50,000 bottles."
When she tried the eighteenth dish, Gu Youran's eyes were already red.
She put down her chopsticks and suddenly held Shi Heng's hand. "How many times did you have to eat these dishes before you remember my taste?"
Shi Heng clasped her hand in his backhand, "The first time I ate with you, you picked the carrots and put them on the side of the plate."
"Later, every time we ate together, I would note which extra dish you took."
The last cake to come out was a mini cake, only the size of a palm, but it exquisitely replicated the design of their wedding cake.
Shi Heng cut off a small piece, which contained fresh strawberry filling wrapped in cream.
"The baker made twelve versions..." Before he could finish his words, Gu Youran suddenly leaned over and kissed him.
The cream melts between your lips, sweeter than honey.
When they separated, she leaned her forehead against his and said, "No need to try again. I like whatever you choose."
Shi Heng solemnly pulled out a card from his suit pocket and said, "Then sign this final menu?"
Gu Youran took the pen and solemnly signed his name in the lower right corner of the card.
Shi Jiheng's signature is already there.
The two names snuggled together, just like the couple about to take their wedding vows.
After dinner, the two came to the private customization studio on the first floor of Shengshi Mingdu.
"Mr. Shi, the samples are ready." The designer brought out a velvet box.
Gu Youran opened the box and her breathing stopped.
The invitation was made of light purple velvet, with tiny diamonds inlaid on the edges, shining like a starry sky under the light.
Turning over the inner pages, the gentian flowers embroidered with gold thread are three-dimensional and vivid, and the stamens are decorated with real amethysts.
"This..." She touched the petals carefully, "How much is one?"
The designer glanced at Shi Heng, and after getting his approval, he replied, "The cost per piece is about RMB, because the diamonds and amethysts are of top quality, and each one is hand-set by a dedicated craftsman."
"The gold thread on the inner pages is 18K real gold, and it takes an embroiderer three days to complete the embroidery of a single gentian flower."
"How much?" Gu Youran's eyes widened. "So hiring a hundred people costs 2.88 million? Just for a few pieces of paper?"
Shi Heng hugged her from behind and said, "Only invite your closest relatives and friends, and keep the number of people within 80."
He rested his chin on her shoulder. "And this isn't ordinary paper. It's hand-embossed velvet from Country Y. Each invitation requires a craftsman to work for eight hours to complete."
"What a waste!" Gu Youran turned to face him. "I know you're not short of money, but wouldn't it be great if you donated it to a school in the mountainous area? Even a simple gold-stamped invitation would be beautiful."
The studio suddenly became quiet.
Shi Heng stared at her for a long time, then suddenly chuckled, "You are indeed my Mrs. Shi."
