Chapter 52
No one heard their conversation, but the subtle atmosphere in the hall was palpable to anyone.
These two people don't get along at all.
Even though Xia Qian was slow to notice, she realized it and couldn't help but think to herself, "There's no reason for this..."
They've only just met, and haven't even spent an hour together yet, so what's causing this awkward atmosphere? There's really no reason for it...
"I'm jealous." Hughes's voice suddenly rang in Xia Qian's heart.
She subconsciously raised her eyes and met a pair of deep, dark pupils.
"I'm jealous," the boy repeated. He looked directly into her eyes, eyes that were usually predatory, but now resembled those of a big gray wolf wanting to be petted, wagging its tail and wanting her caress.
This was completely out of character for Hughes. Just thinking about it made Xia Qian feel a sense of unease. But the black-haired boy in front of her was genuinely jealous, and his jealousy was practically overflowing from his eyes.
"Don't be jealous..." she said. Having no romantic experience whatsoever, she had no idea how to handle the current situation. She tried to soothe her by saying, "You're important too."
The girl's voice gently lingered in Hughes's ears.
It seeped into the boy's heart little by little, settling deep within him and remaining there forever.
"Xia Xia," Xia Che's voice fell in the hall. His gaze silently swept between the two. Even though Xia Che did not hear their quiet conversation, it did not prevent him from seeing the satisfaction in the wolf's eyes.
How did he end up running into this wolf when he had been searching for his sister for so long without success?
Xia Che silently took a sip of tea. "Now that those two eyesores have been dealt with, let's settle our own business."
Hughes's excellence is evident to all in the galaxy; this is a universally acknowledged fact.
He was someone everyone wanted to win over. He was a once-in-a-century talent, holding both military and political power in the empire at such a young age. No one in the empire could compare to him, and his position as crown prince was firmly secured.
But without sincerity, no matter how outstanding Hughes is, he will never entrust his sister to him. Let alone the fact that they are just dating, who knows what this wolf might do to his sister when he is not paying attention!
Moreover, his sister had been tricked into becoming a slave; how good could her situation be? He didn't even know if Hughes had taken advantage of her during that time, and based on that alone, he disagreed.
We should at least teach them a lesson.
We need to make it clear to Hughes that his girls are not so easy to bully!
Xia Che narrowed his eyes. "Xia Xia, tell your brother the truth, has he ever bullied you before?"
"Don't be afraid, your brother is here. Just tell the truth," Xia Che said. "I'll help you get revenge for all the injustices you've suffered."
His gaze was fixed on her. Although he was the one in control, there was a hint of guilt in his eyes. He was taking all the blame upon himself, even though that wasn't the case.
He wasn't mentioned in the book, but given the complex environment of the Source of Life, how could he possibly have a good life? There was no need for him to take all the blame upon himself.
Having spent over a decade alone, Xia Qian had long since developed a remarkably sensible personality. She placed her hand on Xia Che's cool hand, her voice still soft and gentle, "I'm fine."
"You're already so lucky. I hope my brother is doing well too. If not," she slowly clenched her hand over Xia Che's, "it should be me who gets it back for you!"
It was a simple, unremarkable sentence, yet it inexplicably stirred up a ripple in my heart.
As an older brother, he imagined countless scenarios that might occur when he found his sister. She might become estranged from him, not very close to him, or she might be willing to come back, but she would feel unfamiliar and out of place in the Source of Life...
Xia Che considered countless possibilities, but the one he never expected was—
all is well.
They were even very close, like siblings who hadn't been apart for over a decade, without any distance or wariness between them.
That little hand was still on the back of his hand. Xia Che had never had such a subtle feeling before, the feeling of being protected by a loved one.
Subtle and gentle, it seemed to melt into Xia Che's heart, but no matter how gentle it was, Xia Che would not really let his sister protect him. He gently said to Xia Qian, "No need, Xia Xia. You are a princess."
The princess should not have stood up for her.
“The princess shouldn’t be bothered by such trivial matters.”
That's good.
"Your Highness, the warning statement has already been issued." The subordinate reported in a low voice, then paused abruptly, unsure whether to continue, "The Celestial Maiden has just fainted!"
Xia Qian was taken aback. "Why did you suddenly faint?"
The attendant shook his head, looking confused. "We don't know yet. The army doctor is on his way."
"Keep a close eye on her. Don't let her have a chance to escape."
"yes!"
Hughes was indifferent, showing no concern whatsoever; whether the Celestial Maiden lived or died was of no importance to him.
He didn't seem to care.
She couldn't help but think that even if the saintess escaped, Hughes wouldn't care much.
He probably never took the saintess seriously...
What about him and the Pope?
Xia Qian subconsciously looked up, but was caught off guard by those dark pupils.
"Doesn't Xiaxia want to come here?"
Hughes deliberately used his supernatural ability to transmit a secret that only the two of them could hear. His eyes were fixed on her, filled with jealousy, and even his tone seemed to be tinged with envy.
“You’ve been sitting next to your brother for a long time.”
He lowered his eyes, making the beauty mark under his eye even more prominent, giving him the appearance of a delicate beauty. He lowered his gaze and said softly, "You're not here with me."
Completely jealous.
