Meanwhile, the door of the restroom swung open, and Old Madam Ye stepped out from inside.
Lucy was momentarily stunned, her face filled with a mix of surprise and undisguised concern.
"Old Madam..."
Old Madam Ye raised her gaze, her eyes still glistening with traces of moisture.
Her expression had returned to its usual indifference, but her once exquisite makeup had been smudged.
Old Madam Ye stood still, no longer inclined to move forward, her voice hoarse.
"You’ve come just in time, bring me my handbag."
"Of course, Old Madam!"
Lucy quickly regained her composure, carefully picking up the limited edition luxury handbag from the table and handing it over.
"Old Madam, is there anything else I can do for you?"
"Pour me a glass of water."
After giving the order, Old Madam Ye took her handbag and entered the restroom once again, meticulously touching up her makeup to avoid revealing any clues to Ann.
Lucy poured a glass of warm water and held it in her hands, standing by the restroom door.
She could still hear her own heartbeat, which hadn’t yet calmed down.
It had been a long time since Old Madam had last cried.
The last time she did, it seemed to be over two years ago, and even then, the doctor had to administer a sedative to put her into a coma.
Lucy strained her ears, secretly listening to the sounds coming from inside the restroom.
She wondered if she should report this situation to Old Sir...
Clutching the water cup tightly, she hesitated.
Old Madam Ye emerged from the restroom once again, her makeup restored to perfection, with only a hint of redness at the corner of her eyes.
Catching sight of Lucy’s worried expression, she reached out and took the water cup.
"Do not tell them about this."
By "them", she naturally meant the other members of the Ye family.
Lucy was startled, immediately nodding.
"Understood, Old Madam. I will keep it a secret."
"Okay."
Old Madam Ye finished the water in the cup, then walked slowly towards the room.
She gently turned the doorknob, pushing it open to take a look inside.
With just one glance, Old Madam Ye’s heart instantly melted like water.
Ann was right beside the sickbed, but not on the same side as before.
The small figure maintained a standing posture, with half of their body leaning against the edge of the bed.
The little hands were tucked under the blanket, clearly holding the hand of the person lying unconscious on the bed.
The small face was turned towards the person on the bed, with round, bright eyes closed.
One side of their cheek pressed against the bed, and their rosy little mouth was slightly pouted.
They were sound asleep, completely unaware of anyone entering the room.
A faint smile appeared on Old Madam Ye’s lips as her gaze softened upon Ann.
She tiptoed behind them.
Gently, she embraced the small figure.
"Sleep well."
Qin Sui’an, in a drowsy state, struggled to open her eyes, managing to glimpse the person before closing them again.
"Grandmother..."
Almost murmuring, she called out, then closed her eyes once more.
After the morning’s long walking, this little body couldn’t withstand the overwhelming fatigue.
"My dear, I’ll hold you, so you can continue sleeping."
Old Madam Ye kissed her forehead tenderly, feeling the desire of Ann to hold her mother’s hand.
She didn’t let go and brought over a chair.
She sat sideways, cradling Ann in her arms, allowing her to hold her mother’s hand while also being comfortable enough to sleep.
Qin Sui’an shifted slightly, resting her head against Old Madam Ye’s arm, and soon drifted back into a deep slumber.
Old Madam Ye gently caressed Ann’s body, her watery eyes occasionally glancing between the sleeping child in her arms and her daughter on the sick bed.
Lucy discreetly stole a glance from outside the room, witnessing the serene, harmonious, and heartwarming scene of three generations of the family.
A bittersweet sensation tingled at the tip of her nose.
She wiped away the tears at the corner of her eyes, turned around, and headed towards the sofa, only to suddenly remember the presence of a large white goose on one side of it.
The white goose was still asleep, motionless.
Its webbed feet were hidden beneath its body, and its head was tucked into the feathers on its chest, resembling a round, fluffy white ball.
After careful consideration, Lucy hesitated and decided not to sit down, fearing it would disturb the sleeping white goose.
Suddenly, her phone in her pocket buzzed incessantly.
Lucy took it out and upon seeing the caller ID, she swiftly walked out of the sickbed and answered the call in the corridor.
With utmost respect, she called out, "Old Sir."
It must be the Qin family causing a commotion at the hospital’s entrance.
The news had spread and reached the ears of other members of the Ye family.
In the office of Ye Corporation’s Chairman, Ye Yanzhi, who had already reached retirement age, remained reluctant to idle himself due to his daughter’s sudden misfortune.
Thus, he continued to serve as the Chairman of Ye Corporation.
With his white hair and a sturdy physique, he stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, furrowing his brows as he inquired, "Why did the Qin family go to the hospital? What has happened?"
The two families had severed all contact for several years, tearing their relationship apart.
Lucy suddenly felt like crying.
After holding back her emotions all morning, she could finally inform the other members of the Ye family about this tremendous news.
Her voice couldn’t conceal her excitement, trembling slightly as she spoke, "Old Sir, this morning, Old Madam encountered Miss An’an on her way to the hospital."
A silence lasting ten seconds ensued.
Ye Yanzhi’s brows furrowed even deeper, and he demanded clarification, "Explain clearly, which Miss An’an?"
"Your granddaughter, Miss An’an!"
Lucy glanced in the direction of the ward and continued, "Old Madam and Miss An’an are currently in the young lady’s room. The Qin family came to the hospital in an attempt to take Miss An’an away, but they were unsuccessful. Our people stopped them, and the Qin family couldn’t step foot inside the hospital."
"Well done."
Ye Yanzhi only replied with a single word, followed by another period of silence.
Just as Lucy began to suspect if her phone was malfunctioning or experiencing poor signal, she heard the voice of the Old Sir once again through the receiver, "How is Wenting’s state, Lucy?"
Ye Yanzhi was somewhat angry, not at Lucy, but at himself for only finding out about such a significant matter after a couple of hours had passed.
Amidst his anger, he also wished he could fly directly to the hospital and see his granddaughter.
Additionally, he worried that his wife might be distressed and her old illness might resurface.
All these thoughts intertwined, leaving his usually astute mind in disarray.
Without hesitation, Lucy calmly replied, "Old Sir, rest assured, Old Madam is doing well and is very happy."
"That’s good. I’m heading there now. If there are any updates, inform me immediately."
Before Lucy could respond with a "Yes", the call had already been disconnected.
Ye Yanzhi picked up his suit jacket and draped it over his arm, walking briskly out of the office.
As he made calls to have the car prepared, he instructed his assistant to handle all matters of the corporation, entrusting them entirely to his son.
Once the elevator doors closed, the silent space granted him a moment of calm.
Ann...
His granddaughter.
Ye Yanzhi took out his phone and opened a private album in the photo gallery.
