Chapter 382: Second Things Come Second

Ye Rongyuan left the restaurant with Ann, having been gone for nearly an hour and a half.

Qin Qianyi stood up for who know how many times, pacing the living room. "Why aren’t they back yet? That Ye Rongyuan better not have run off with Ann!"

Old Mrs. Qin was about to comment on her "reckless" grandson when, right next to her, a sofa cushion flew in his direction.

Her words caught in her throat as she turned in surprise.

In the past, Old Mrs. Qin handled these "lessons," but today was different. Old Mr. Qin didn’t want his wife upset over an unruly grandson, and being the laid-back type, he simply tossed a cushion instead.

It landed perfectly, with good effect.

As Qin Qianyi grumbled about Ye Rongyuan, he was unexpectedly hit by the flying pillow. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

He caught it, looking at his grandfather in confusion. "Grandpa, why did you hit me?"

Old Mr. Qin ignored his grandson’s question, glancing at his wife, who wore a satisfied expression, confirming he had hit the mark.

He turned back to his carefree grandson with a huff. "No manners—he’s your uncle."

"He... fine, he is my uncle." Seeing more cushions behind his grandfather, Qin Qianyi, wanting to avoid another pillow attack, quickly changed his tune. "Why hasn’t my uncle brought Ann back yet?"

He dared not mention the idea of Ann being "kidnapped."

Old Mrs. Qin spoke slowly, "It’s rare for him to come to our house. He’s usually busy, so let him spend some time with Ann."

Qin Qianyi checked the time—it was already eight-thirty. If they didn’t return soon, Ann would have to go to bed.

If it weren’t for the recent reflection he had in his father’s study, Qin Qianyi would have dashed out to find Ann and Ye Rongyuan.

Just as he was about to bolt, some commotion finally came from outside.

Ye Rongyuan had returned to the castle, holding Ann.

He really didn’t want to put her down, but fearing she might get uncomfortable, he squatted to let her down gently.

Qin Sui’an looked up at him, her little face eager. "Are you leaving, Uncle?"

"Not yet. I need to talk to your dad about something." After a night of "fooling around," Ye Rongyuan finally remembered his real purpose for coming to the Qin family.

Curiously, Qin Sui’an asked, "What time are you going home?"

"Probably around nine." Ye Rongyuan’s lips curled into a smile, eyes filled with fondness. "Are you going to miss me, Ann?"

He didn’t want to leave either.

"A little bit." Qin Sui’an pouted, a bit shy, but quickly added, "Tomorrow Ann can go to work with Uncle!"

"Oh right! I almost forgot!"

Ye Rongyuan’s earlier disappointment vanished instantly, his spirit lifted by Ann’s words.

Qin Sui’an’s eyes sparkled. "But Ann hasn’t told Daddy yet. You need to tell him."

"I’ll mention it to your dad shortly." Ye Rongyuan tousled her hair.

Thinking of Ann accompanying him to work the next day made him beam as they walked into the castle, heading toward the living room.

In the living room, the rest of the Qin family was present. Ye Rongyuan wasted no time greeting the elders before turning to his brother-in-law, Qin Haochen. "Where are we going to talk?"

"In the study, follow me." Qin Haochen thought of the little one but knew it was getting late. He had to finish talking business with Ye Rongyuan before spending more time with her.

Qin Qianyi waited for them to leave, then scooped Ann into his arms, exaggerating, "Ann, I missed you so much!"

He meant it but was being a bit over the top.

After loosening his grip, Qin Qianyi looked Ann over, noticing her clothes were still clean. "Where did you and Uncle go to play?"

"We went to the garden and the dairy farm," Qin Sui’an answered cheerfully.

Her adorable demeanor made Qin Qianyi pinch her little cheek. "You didn’t play much, did you?"

Qin Sui’an shook her head. "Not really."

Though they hadn’t played a lot, just wandering around their home and chatting with her uncle made her feel like she learned more about her mother, brightening her mood.

Seeing Ann’s quiet smile, Qin Qianyi couldn’t help but smile back. "Even without playing, you’re still this happy?"

What mattered most was Ann’s happiness; everything else came second.

Meanwhile, in the study upstairs,

This was Ye Rongyuan’s first time on the second floor of the Qin family’s castle. He had only ever been on the first floor before today, never stepping into the more private area upstairs.

He remembered there was also a study on the first floor.

As Qin Haochen led him upstairs, Ye Rongyuan wondered why they wouldn’t just talk in the first-floor study.

Upon reaching the second floor, he caught sight of a room adorned with cute plush toys hanging on the door.

Ye Rongyuan’s expression lit up. "Is that Ann’s room?"

Qin Haochen paused, looking at the little one’s room. He nodded slightly. "Yes, but she’s still young and sleeps with me."

With business put on hold, Ye Rongyuan headed straight for Ann’s room, politely asking, "Can I take a look?"

"Of course."

The door to the little one’s room was slightly ajar, and Qin Haochen pushed it open, stepping aside to let Ye Rongyuan in.

Ye Rongyuan stepped inside, taking in the room’s adorable decor.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t bring this decor to the hospital, but once his sister woke up, they could go home together.

After spending a few minutes exploring, Ye Rongyuan exited Ann’s room, rejoining his brother-in-law to discuss business.

He Yan had already placed the contract between Qin Corporation and Ye Corporation on the desk. Qin Haochen handed a copy to Ye Rongyuan, gesturing for him to express his thoughts, as this meeting was primarily for him.

Ye Rongyuan sat in the chair opposite him, opened the document, and immediately lost his relaxed demeanor. With a serious tone, he asked, "Mr. Qin, why are you being so harsh on Ye Corporation this time? The profit sharing wasn’t like this in our previous collaborations."
