Chapter 112 Captain Lu wakes up

A hint of surprise flashed in Li Yuan's eyes. He didn't expect that Dali not only came back alive, but also actually got something out of him.

The others immediately became excited, and the man with the short hair asked anxiously:

"What did you catch?"

He replied vigorously, as if offering a treasure:

"We caught a two-month-old lamb."

"Hello little lamb!"

Several people immediately became happy. The roasted lamb meat was so tender and fragrant that they couldn't help drooling just thinking about it.

"Sure! Dali! Good job!"

Several people suddenly became warm to him, patting him on the shoulders and calling him brother.

Dali also laughed foolishly. As long as this group of people didn't shout at him to kill him, he would be very satisfied.

"What else?"

Li Yuan asked.

The smile on Dali's face froze, and he remembered that Li Yuan asked him to bring back at least two or three to eat. He immediately stammered:

"I'm sorry, Brother Li, it was too dark and I couldn't see clearly. I only caught one..."

I thought Li Yuan would get angry after hearing this, and he had already shrunk his neck and prepared to be beaten, but Li Yuan just smiled:

"Okay, got it. You worked hard last night. Go to sleep and catch up on your sleep. You don't have to worry about the rest."

Dali was both surprised and confused. He didn't expect that Li Yuan was not angry at all and was so kind as to let him catch up on his sleep?

wrong!

He suddenly realized, didn't they agree to roast the meat they had salvaged together?

If he were to go to sleep now, would he risk his life to get the meat but not be able to eat it?

Seeing him standing there motionless, Li Yuan, who saw through his thoughts at a glance, patted his shoulder:

"Don't worry, we'll leave some for you after we bake it, so just sleep peacefully!"

Dali felt relieved after hearing this. After thinking about it, he thought that maybe they would ask him to fish it out later, so there was no reason to go so far.

"Okay, thank you Brother Li, I'll sleep a little longer then."

He didn't doubt it too much. He just thought that Li Yuan and the others were treating him better because they were happy. Besides, he was really sleepy, so he went to bed honestly.

Seeing Dali go to sleep obediently, Li Yuan and the others smiled at each other. The meaning was self-evident. It would be good if there were a pile of bones left for him when he woke up.

Taking advantage of the convenience, Li Yuan and his companions found the big tree that Dali had marked last night, and sure enough, they found a lamb in the pile of dead leaves under the tree.

Li Yuan smiled with satisfaction and threw the folding knife to the crew cut man:

"Be quick!"

The man with the crew cut excitedly took the knife and started peeling the skin on the spot in no time. The other people pulled weeds and picked up branches, and then they lit a fire and started roasting the mutton on a sheltered slope chosen by Li Yuan.

The location chosen by Li Yuan was secluded, at the bottom of a fault slope. Nothing could be seen from the refuge area, and it was facing the leeward direction, so smoke would not drift in that direction.

Several people were drooling as the meat was grilled. Even without any seasoning, the aroma of the meat after it was grilled was enough to make people dizzy.

Seeing the lamb leg begin to drip oil, the crew cut man could no longer bear it and pulled off a lamb leg and handed it to Li Yuan obediently:

"Brother Li, this lamb leg is roasted just right, the skin is crispy and the meat is tender. Please try it first!"

Li Yuan glanced at him sideways, with the corner of his mouth raised, thinking that this kid had good eyesight.

Of course he didn't bother to be polite with them. He took the lamb leg and started to eat it with relish.

The meat of the lamb was very tender, and even without any seasoning, it had no smell. Li Yuan ate mouthful after mouthful, making the people around him drool.

The man with the crew cut watched Li Yuan eat with relish, and could only lick the fingers that had just pulled the lamb leg to satisfy his craving. Without Li Yuan's permission, he would not dare to eat even if he had twice the courage.

Seeing Li Yuan wolfing down a leg of lamb, the man with the crew cut quickly pulled off another leg and handed it to him, licking his fingers as usual to satisfy his craving.

Li Yuan waited until he had eaten all four lamb legs clean and burped comfortably before he said slowly:

"Give the rest to the three of you. Don't leave any for that bastard. He disobeyed orders and only brought back such a small sheep. Make him run again tonight!"

When several people heard that Li Yuan had finally spoken, they danced with excitement. The lamb was small to begin with, and after removing the four legs, only the palm-sized body was left. Several people immediately scrambled to divide up the remaining meat.

He was about to start chewing excitedly when suddenly a loud shout came from behind him:

"What are you doing?!"

......

In the temporary medical tent set up in the shelter, Chen Chunyan was still using a handkerchief soaked in hot water to wipe the body of the unconscious Lu Zhan to cool him down.

She didn't rest the whole night, and her eyes were red. Even Dr. Liu couldn't help but advise:

"Chunyan, go get some rest! If you keep going like this, before Captain Lu gets better, you'll collapse again!"

Liu Jincai, who had been blaming her in his heart, was also somewhat touched and said in a hard voice:

"We have so many soldiers who can take turns helping the battalion commander cool down. You don't have to do it all the time."

Chen Chunyan didn't even raise her head, her eyes fixed on Lu Zhan. She twisted her handkerchief and said:

"I'm a nurse, and I'm best at nursing. Young men are impatient and I don't trust them with the job."

Liu Jincai choked. Just looking at Chen Chunyan's series of smooth and gentle movements, he really had no confidence that he could do better than Chen Chunyan.

Seeing him standing there blankly, Chen Chunyan frowned:

"Captain Liu, I don't need any help here. You should find a way to fix the communication equipment as soon as possible, or see if you can make some broth for Captain Lu. We don't know when the rescue team will arrive, so just waiting around won't do."

Liu Jincai's face turned red with anger because of what she said. Without Lu Zhan as his backbone, he would have lost his direction. If it weren't for Ma Jun's support, he might have been even more at a loss than he is now.

He is a typical rough guy in the army. His strengths are that he is loyal, obedient and able to endure hardships. He follows his superiors' instructions and completes his tasks without hesitation. However, his biggest problem is that he has to use his own brain to solve problems.

At this moment, a soldier came in from outside the tent and asked:

"Company Commander, four villagers violated discipline by secretly descending the mountain to retrieve a sheep from the floodwaters. They hid at the foot of the hillside and roasted it for food. They were discovered by patrolling soldiers. What should we do?"

Liu Jincai's eyes lit up when he heard this. That's right, why didn't he think of it?!

There are so many animals washed down from upstream floating in the flood. If we just pick up a few of them, wouldn’t we have nutritious broth for Captain Lu?

As for how to deal with fellow villagers who violate discipline...let's leave this difficult problem to Ma Jun!

He was about to speak when he heard Chen Chunyan's surprised voice:

"Wake up, Captain Lu is awake!"
