Chapter 26: Left eye twitching brings good luck, right eye twitching brings disaster

Some people are under the moon and flowers, while others are surrounded by gloomy clouds and mist.

In the art troupe dormitory, Lin Qiao sat on the lower bunk in the corner in a daze.

Seeing that it was almost time to go to work, several people in the dormitory looked at each other tacitly, and then glanced at Lin Qiao at the same time.

One of them stood up and said sarcastically:

"Some people in this troupe take it easy in class. They don't have to go on stage. They even say if they're sick, they can get sick. They can earn a salary just by lying down."

The others laughed, and then someone else continued:

"Isn't it? You're still trying to trick people, but you didn't expect to end up losing more than you gained. You've really screwed yourself, haven't you?"

"I thought I was holding other people's lives in my hands, but I didn't expect that I was nothing. Now I can't even get by as a substitute singer. I'm afraid I'll lose my job in the future, hahahaha——"

"Hey, stop talking and get going. None of us are going to get paid without working. If you don't leave now, your salary will be deducted for being late!"

A few of them closed the door and left while chatting and laughing, completely ignoring Lin Qiao who was shaking like a rice sieve behind them because of their words.

Her originally thin and pale face was now so red that it seemed to be bleeding. The joints of her clenched fingers were white and bluish. It was obvious that she was using all her strength to suppress the intense emotions surging in her heart.

Why? !

Why is this happening? !

This was not the first time she had been mocked and ridiculed by this group of people. When she returned to the dormitory yesterday, several people saw her sitting at the table eating the food she had brought back from the cafeteria, and they started to mock her without saying anything.

One person said how beautiful Shao Jingque's singing was, and another person said how popular Shao Jingque was among the soldiers. The most infuriating thing was that they actually implied that she was faking illness right in front of her!

Lin Qiao had never been humiliated in public like this before in her life. She was treated so ruthlessly that she blushed and couldn't even raise her head.

What made her even more uneasy was that their gossip revealed a shocking piece of news - Shao Jingque could actually sing?!

Although Lin Qiao didn't believe it at all in her heart, everyone in the art troupe praised Shao Jingque to the sky. It seemed that in just one day, Shao Jingque's reputation in the art troupe had changed dramatically.

Whenever someone mentioned Shao Jingque, they praised her without exception. In contrast, many people laughed at her behavior of pretending to be sick before the performance as if she were a clown.

Some of the more outrageous words almost made Lin Qiao vomit blood:

"We really misjudged Xiao Shao. We thought she was just relying on her looks to deceive people, but we didn't expect she actually had real skills!"

"It seems that Xiao Shao might have endured the criticism and pretended not to be able to sing just to help certain people stay. It was really hard for her."

"If that's the case, then Xiao Shao's kindness is truly unrewarded, and he's been met with an ungrateful wolf who bites him back."

Lin Qiao was completely at a loss for words. She had clearly been singing for Shao Jingque the entire time, so how could it be that Shao Jingque was helping her now?!

Although these people's sarcasm and ridicule were harsh, they also indirectly reminded Lin Qiao of a fact - if Shao Jingque no longer needed a substitute singer, could she still stay in the art troupe?

She knew very well in her heart that if she hadn't sung for Shao Jingque, she would have had to pack up and return to the countryside three years ago!

Lin Qiao felt so stuffy in her chest that she seemed to be unable to breathe. Her face flushed red, tears streamed down her face, and her teeth almost bit through her lower lip.

She felt wronged and refused to accept it. Why was this world so unfair?!

She didn't do anything wrong, why is everyone blaming her?!

Lin Qiao looked up and saw herself in the dressing mirror. Her originally ordinary facial features, with single eyelids, flat nose and thick lips, looked even uglier after being mixed with tears and snot.

Suddenly she waved her hand violently, and the dressing mirror fell to the ground and broke into countless pieces.

Looking at the countless ugly images of herself in the fragments, she bent down with her hands covering her ears, and opened her mouth as if she wanted to scream, but she suppressed it tightly and did not make a sound.

......

In the backstage dressing room, Shao Jingque was sitting in front of the dressing table when her right eye suddenly started twitching.

She quickly closed her eyes, muttering to herself, "Left eye twitching means good fortune, right eye twitching means disaster." This was not a good sign.

She was not a thorough materialist to begin with, and now that she had the experience of traveling through time, she would rather believe something than not believe it. She could only secretly remind herself to be more careful in everything.

After closing it for a while, I felt my right eye seemed to have regained its calm.

Shao Jingque slowly opened her eyes, and a pale, swollen face suddenly appeared before her, almost frightening her to death:

“Ghost!”

The ghost was also obviously stunned. Then two blushes appeared on his pale face, and he spoke in a soft voice:

"Jing Que, I'm sorry I scared you..."

The voice sounded familiar, so Shao Jingque mustered up the courage to look through his fingers, and then he recognized that the "ghost" in front of him was actually Lin Qiao. She looked like she had been crying, with her eyes, nose and face all swollen.

Shao Jingque breathed a sigh of relief, but when she saw Lin Qiao's actions clearly, she almost gasped again. Why was this person still... kneeling next to her stool?

This obviously overly dramatic move made Shao Jingque frown:

"What are you doing kneeling here? It's not enough to scare me once with your eyes closed, you're going to scare me again with your eyes open?"

Lin Qiao suddenly burst into tears:

"Jing Que, I'm sorry, please forgive me. I had no choice. Qiao Yulan threatened me to pretend to be sick and not participate in the performance, otherwise she would kick me out of the art troupe. I had no choice... wuwu..."
