Shao Jingque spoke in an orderly and clear manner. Hong Kang unconsciously followed her train of thought and gestured with his fingers on his palms. It seemed that what she said was true, but he could not think of a suitable reason to refute it.
Seeing Hong Kang frowning and looking thoughtful, Shao Jingque knew that he must have heard something, so he continued:
"And look, how much was an egg two years ago? Four cents or five cents? But what about now?"
Hong Kang was still thinking about her earlier calculation of the rent when he suddenly heard her ask about the current price of eggs. He subconsciously answered:
"When eggs are cheap, they're only a dime each. When they're in short supply, you can't even buy one."
"That's right!"
This was the answer Shao Jingque wanted, her eyes sparkling as she spoke:
"Look, prices have gone up so much in just two years. Ten years from now, an egg might only cost 50 cents, which means the price has increased fivefold. Five thousand yuan back then would only buy what one thousand yuan does now."
"In those ten years, even if you calculate your rent at 4,800 yuan, not to mention the less than 2,000 yuan I gave you, you still wouldn't be able to buy something worth 1,000 yuan now."
"But if you sell the storefront to me now, I can pay you two thousand yuan in cash right away. This two thousand yuan is equivalent to you getting it ten years in advance. In today's world, it has real purchasing power."
"This way, during these ten years, you won't have to worry about renting out the storefront every year, nor will you have to bear the increasing cost of repairs. Wouldn't it be nice to just enjoy your life in Hong Kong?"
