Chapter 50: Ridiculous Scene

On this side, Bi Guoan kept muttering to himself while leading two soldiers towards the flooded area.

"What do you call this? Is this pig more important than his life?"

The two soldiers were also confused and wondered if this man was obsessed with money.

Of course a pig can be worth a lot of money, but no matter how much it is worth, it can't be compared with your own life!

The three of them ran all the way in the heavy rain, and even reached the shore of the flooded area, but they still couldn't catch up with Director Zheng, who was eager to save the pigs.

The young soldier pointed at the bamboo rafts piled on the shore and said:

"Captain, one of the rafts is missing!"

Bi Guoan felt overwhelmed and sighed as he looked at the dark ocean-like water in front of him. He could only quickly ask the young soldier to pull another raft into the water and search all the way to the slaughterhouse.

The flashlight had a limited range, so for safety reasons, Bi Guoan and the two soldiers did not go into the water. Instead, they found a few thick branches to use as oars and sat on the raft to paddle forward.

Maybe it was because of the limited vision at night, but Bi Guoan felt that the water flow was much faster than in the afternoon.

Soon, the little soldier paddling also noticed this situation and said nervously:

"Captain, the water is flowing too fast. It's probably going to be difficult for Director Zheng to reach the slaughterhouse by himself. Will he be swept away by the flood?"

Even if the three soldiers worked together, they still found it difficult to move forward in the turbulent water. What's more, the middle-aged man in the afternoon who looked frail and wore a pair of black-framed glasses must have had poor eyesight. I'm afraid he was now in the dark and could only drift with the current. It would be a blessing that the raft didn't capsize.

Bi Guoan also had a bad premonition. Not only was the water current much faster, but there were also large and small debris crashing into the water from time to time. The three soldiers sitting on the raft felt the shaking violently, let alone an ordinary citizen, who was afraid that he would not be able to cope with it.

Bi Guoan gritted his teeth and quickened his hands:

"Paddle harder, Shitou, take the flashlight and shine it on the water. Look carefully everywhere. Make sure you look carefully!"

The three of them paddled forward with all their might, and after great effort they finally reached the roof of the slaughterhouse again.

Compared to the afternoon, the roof was now more than half submerged, with only a small slanted beam at the top still exposed above the water. The few pigs that were left in the afternoon had long since disappeared.

The soldier named Shitou picked up his flashlight and shone it carefully around the roof, but he couldn't see Director Zheng.

"Captain, there's no one here!"

Bi Guoan's face looked grim. He cursed and complained that Director Zheng was looking for trouble, but if something really happened to him, he would feel very upset.

At this moment, he was thinking angrily that he had spent a lot of effort in the afternoon to rescue the person and send him to a safe place. How could he not cherish their rescue results and his own life?

The next second, I regretted why I didn't make a couple more trips this afternoon before it got dark and the water wasn't so urgent to help Director Zheng transport his precious pigs. Otherwise, this wouldn't have happened...

The young soldiers looked at each other, somewhat at a loss:

"Captain, what should we do now?"

Bi Guoan still didn't want to give up so easily. He grabbed the paddle and said in a muffled voice:

"Paddle around and look again!"

The bamboo raft carrying three people is like a lone lamp in the dark and boundless ocean, rising and falling in the dangerous rapids and may be overturned by the turbulent water at any time.

Bi Guoan and his companions were already soaked through, and their waterproof raincoats could not stop the heavy rain, not to mention that debris would hit the bamboo raft from time to time, instantly causing huge waves that would soak them thoroughly.

The temperature gradually dropped at night. The little soldier couldn't help but sneeze, and his hands, which had been immersed in cold water, began to tremble.

Bi Guoan became more and more anxious. If someone really fell into the water, he would be frozen to death in such cold weather if not drowned!

At this moment, Shitou's flashlight slid across a part of the water that was crowded with debris, then suddenly slid back and shouted excitedly:

"Bamboo raft! It's a bamboo raft!"

Bi Guoan suddenly became alert and quickly shone the flashlight over there. Sure enough, he saw the bamboo raft made by the soldiers among the pile of debris blocked by the wall.

But the next second his heart sank again. The bamboo raft was empty, and there was no sign of Director Zheng!

It's over, this person won't really fall into the water...

The two young soldiers were immediately deflated, their tired faces filled with sadness. Although they felt that Director Zheng was too unreliable and had caused them to search in the flood for so long in the middle of the night in the heavy rain, they still felt bad seeing that the person was gone.

No matter how dangerous or difficult the situation was, they managed to get through it with the determination to find the person as soon as possible.

Now that the people are gone and only the bamboo raft is left, not only the young soldier, but even Bi Guoan feels unmotivated.

But this wasn't a situation where he could relax. He could only pull himself together again, patting the two young soldiers on the shoulders and speaking in a serious tone:

"Let's go back..."

The three of them turned the bamboo raft around, avoiding the obstacles floating around on the water, and paddled back in the direction they had just come from.

One of the young soldiers was too cautious and slowed down his movements, causing the bamboo raft to drift away from its original direction. Bi Guoan quickly moved to the other side to remedy the situation. After all, returning the original route was definitely the safest option at the moment.

Unexpectedly, the next second, Shitou suddenly exclaimed:

"Someone! There's someone there!"

In the light of his flashlight, Bi Guoguang could vaguely see a white object hanging on a branch that was emerging from the water, and it seemed to be still struggling.

He shouted excitedly:

"Quick! Row over there and save them!"

The three of them immediately put all their strength into paddling as fast as they could, and went upstream to get closer to the tree branch.

It was not until then that Bi Guoguang saw clearly that the person on the tree branch was indeed Director Zheng who fell into the water, and the white thing was actually a pig!

Director Zheng looked extremely miserable at this moment. His shirt had been torn by debris in the water, and strands of it were floating on the water. There was a big bloody scratch on his shoulder, and there were several bruises on his face and forehead. One of his eyes was swollen like a lightbulb, and his glasses had long been gone. Only the part of him above his shoulders was floating on the water.

It was so difficult. He stuck one hand in the tree branch and used the other hand to try his best to lift the pig up. Fortunately, the pig was also a little afraid of death and struggled hard between the tree branches.

A man and a pig actually waited for rescue in this raging flood.

Bi Guoguang didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He had never seen such a ridiculous scene in his life, nor had he seen someone who valued money more than his life. However, he couldn't help but feel his eyes getting hot.
