Chapter 52 The Wrong Number of People

On the rooftop that was constantly battered by heavy rain and floods, Director Zheng and the slaughterhouse workers gritted their teeth and persevered for another whole day. During this time, they watched helplessly as one pig after another, which they had raised with great effort, fell into the flood. The shrill howling in their ears was like a sharp knife cutting into their hearts.

Just when everyone thought they were doomed, soldiers appeared from the other side of the flood like divine soldiers descending from the sky, giving them hope of life again.

But the bamboo raft was too small, and after rescuing the people, there was no way to carry the few remaining pigs.

Director Zheng was reluctant to leave the pigs behind and refused to let go. Finally, everyone pulled him onto the bamboo raft, and he couldn't stop crying all the way.

Abandoning these pigs would mean abandoning all his hard work over the past five years, and he would also lose the hope of starting over. How could he not despair?

No one knows how ecstatic he was when he risked his life to return to the slaughterhouse and saw a sow with piglets still alive on the roof!

He didn't know where the strength came from, but he managed to get the sow onto the bamboo raft by himself. But before he could be happy for too long, a big wave hit, and the bamboo raft lost its balance and collided with debris on the water, instantly causing him and the sow to fall into the water.

He didn't have any time to react at all. The rushing water instantly swept him into one whirlpool after another. He couldn't remember how many times he was rolled and hit in the water. His oxygen-deprived lungs seemed to be tightly wrapped by an invisible pressure. The fear of suffocation, the cold flood, the endless darkness... every second was torture.

Suddenly, a thick object appeared under him and pushed him out of the water as he was about to fall into a semi-comatose state.

The moment he came into contact with the air, his consciousness was immediately awakened, his body shook violently, and then he instinctively breathed in fresh air.

After a violent and rapid coughing, he finally opened his eyes and saw clearly that what he was holding tightly in his hands was actually the sow he had just tried so hard to save. In an instant, tears of fear and gratitude gushed out of his eyes, mixed with water droplets and slid down his cheeks.

He held the sow in one hand and paddled hard with the other. The pig also instinctively treaded water hard. In the end, the man and the pig were lucky enough to be washed by the current to a cluster of lush tree branches. This was the scene that Bi Guoguang and others saw.

He didn't care whether it was ridiculous or not. He only wanted the soldiers who came to rescue him to get the pig out. Then there would be hope for the slaughterhouse and its workers after the heavy rain and flood.

Seeing that there was not enough space on the bamboo raft, Bi Guoguang made up his mind and jumped into the water by grabbing the edge of the raft, startling the two young soldiers and making them cry out:

"Company Commander!"

Bi Guoguang clung to the edge of the bamboo raft, rising and falling in the flood, and shouted calmly:

"I'm fine, throw the rope over quickly!"

Director Zheng, who was standing on a tree branch, was also stunned when he saw Bi Guoguang jump into the water. He even forgot to catch the rope that the stone was thrown to him.

Shitou roared at him anxiously:

"Hurry up and grab the rope! Quick! Our company commander is still in the water!"

Director Zheng grabbed the rope thrown to him and tied it around his waist. With the combined efforts of the two soldiers, he finally climbed onto the bamboo raft that had made room for him.

Bi Guoguang finally smiled and said jokingly:

"If I had known it would be so difficult, I should have agreed to help you transport the pigs!"

Director Zheng, who survived the disaster, finally regained his senses. His face turned red with shame and he kept thanking several people.

The two young soldiers wanted to pull their company commander up, but the bamboo raft was too small and there was no extra space at all.

Bi Guoguang said nonchalantly:

"Don't you know your company commander's physique? That's it! Row out quickly, I'll be able to push you from behind!"

There was no other choice, so the two soldiers could only sandwich the pig and Director Zheng in the middle of the bamboo raft, paddling the raft forward from the left and right, while Bi Guoguang relied on his arm strength to hold on to the edge of the raft tightly, treading water to push the raft forward.

Just when they were almost exhausted, they finally approached the edge of the flooded area. Bi Guoguang felt that his toes were touching the ground from time to time, and they were about to reach the shore.

The two soldiers jumped onto the shore first, pulled the rope tied to the bamboo raft, pulled the raft towards the shore, and then brought Director Zheng and the pig to the shore.

Bi Guoguang, who was soaking in the water, finally breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that both the people and the pigs had come ashore. He thought that he had fulfilled his mission and that the task that he had volunteered to take on in front of the battalion commander had been completed.

After picking up the people, Shitou and the little soldier quickly pulled the rope to try to pull the bamboo raft and Bi Guoguang ashore.

At this moment, the rope that tied the bamboo raft suddenly broke. Shitou saw that the situation was not good and immediately jumped over to grab the bamboo raft, desperately reaching out to Bi Guoguang:

"Captain, catch me!"

Bi Guoguang also used all his strength to push the bamboo raft, trying to reach the stone's hand.

But at this thrilling moment, a huge piece of broken wood in the water rushed straight towards Bi Guoguang -

The next second, before Bi Guoguang could even make a sound, he was instantly knocked into the rushing water by the broken wood. Without even a splash of struggle, he disappeared in the pitch-black rapids.

"Company Commander—"

Shitou's eyes were wide open, and his hand almost grabbed Bi Guoguang's hand, but now Bi Guoguang disappeared from his sight in the surging flood.

He wanted to jump into the water immediately. The other little soldier reacted and could only hug him tightly with red eyes.

Behind the two of them, Director Zheng sat down on the ground with a pale face, terrified.

......

As time passed, Lu Zhan's inexplicable uneasiness in his heart also intensified.

On the one hand, he was still worried about whether the Banqiao Reservoir would burst, and on the other hand, he was worried that something might have happened to Bi Guoguang and his companions since they had been away for so long.

Everyone has finished packing and is just waiting for Bi Guoguang and his team to bring Director Zheng back before heading towards Tianxing Town.

The soldiers in the courtyard who were ready to go were staring at the road in front of the courtyard gate, and the people in Anfeng Town were also looking forward to the safe return of Director Zheng and others.

Suddenly, someone outside shouted in surprise:

"They're back! They rescued Director Zheng! And a pig too!"

The crowd immediately became excited and ran forward to greet them. The soldiers who had already lined up could not hide their smiles.

Lu Zhan finally felt a little relieved. He walked forward quickly and saw several figures slowly approaching in the rain.

The corners of his mouth rose slightly, and he looked at that direction with burning eyes, but the next second, his expression froze.

Wrong number of people!
