When Su Xingmian returned, the sunset was already setting.
Holding the spoils of victory today in her hands, she happily pushed open the gate and shouted loudly: "Mother, look what good things your daughter won for you today."
The old woman in the courtyard saw her coming back skipping, and said with a kind smile, "My dear granddaughter, what good things did you win? Show it to me, grandma."
Su Xingmian walked over with a happy face and spread out her palm: "It's a jade hairpin. Although the quality and workmanship are not very good, this is something my granddaughter won with her own ability."
She pouted and looked proud, which made the old woman look even more happy and loving. She smiled and praised: "My Xingmian is really amazing."
Su Xingmian held the old woman's arm, smiling brightly: "That's right, my granddaughter is so smart, she got the real teachings from grandma!"
"You have such a small mouth!"
Su Xingmian giggled, looked around, and asked in confusion, "Grandma, where is my mother?"
"At the Pei family next door!"
"The Pei family?" Su Xingmian's eyes lit up. Wasn't that exactly the Pei Yanli family that the sisters talked about when they were horse racing today?
Letting go of her hand, Su Xingmian said happily, "I'll go call Mom home!"
Seeing her impetuous look, the old woman shook her head and laughed indulgently.
The gorgeous sunset illuminated the Pei family courtyard with an orange-red hue, and the fallen flowers and leaves under the hibiscus tree had already been cleaned up by Aunt Pei.
Su Xingmian came in hurriedly, and seeing that his mother was indeed there, he smiled and bowed to Aunt Pei.
Then she came to Su's side and spread out her palms as if offering a treasure: "Mother, look, your daughter has won another gift for you."
Hearing this, Su looked at the jade hairpin in her palm and asked gently, "Which place?"
Su Xingmian smiled proudly: "My daughter is the one who comes out, so naturally she will be the first."
"Let me put it in for you," she said, searching for a suitable spot in Su's hair and inserting it. After admiring it for a moment, she praised, "It's really beautiful. Mother looks like a fairy when she wears this hairpin that I won personally."
Su glared at her angrily: "You have no manners! What kind of words are you talking about?"
Aunt Pei looked at the interaction between the mother and daughter with envy. She wanted a daughter like this, cute and lovely, who would act coquettishly in her arms.
But she gave birth to two sons who were like wood!
"It's getting late, I should go back."
When Aunt Pei heard Su suddenly stand up and say she was leaving, she quickly stood up as well, saying reluctantly, "You're leaving now? Why don't you stay for dinner with your girl before you go?"
"No, it's rare for me to go back to my parents' home, so I always have to spend more time with them and have more meals together."
Aunt Pei nodded when she heard this and said, "That's true. Let's make a deal. It's my birthday at noon the day after tomorrow. You must come."
She looked at Su Xingmian and added, "Take your girl with you."
Su smiled gently and replied, "Okay, I'll definitely come the day after tomorrow."
As he was speaking, a tall and straight man in a dark official robe walked in.
Seeing this, Aunt Pei hurriedly waved to Pei Yanli: "Yanli, come over and meet the elders."
Pei Yanli originally planned to go back to his room to change his clothes, but when he heard his mother calling him, he turned on tiptoe and walked towards him.
Su Xingmian looked at the man who walked in with her big eyes without any hesitation. She saw that he had sharp eyebrows and eyes, deep and fierce facial features, and he exuded a cold and stern aura that kept strangers away.
She watched with interest as Pei Yanli walked in and bowed politely but distantly to her mother.
When facing her, Xing frowned slightly, but still saluted politely.
Su Xingmian smiled and returned the greeting.
When Aunt Pei saw the Su mother and daughter leave, her expression suddenly turned colder. She said sternly, "Yanli, I will not agree to your marriage with Sisi. You can't do anything like stealing someone else's wife, otherwise our family will be ridiculed in Dong'an City!"
Pei Yanli was already feeling resentful about what Xiao Yunchen had said today, and now when he heard his mother mention this matter again, the pent-up anger in his heart suddenly burst out.
He replied coldly, "Mother, I have my own plans for Sisi and I's marriage. You just need to eat and drink well at home. I will arrange everything properly and won't implicate anyone."
When Aunt Pei heard what he said, she knew that he was unwilling to give up.
She was so angry that her face turned red. She put one hand on her waist and pointed at him with the other hand and cursed: "What can you do? She is the wife of an official in the capital! How can you snatch her away?!"
Pei Yanli's face turned pale as the disgusting scenes of today flashed through his mind. Nameless jealousy burned in his chest, obliterating his rationality.
He spoke stubbornly, "So what? Sisi wants to marry me now."
After saying that, he flicked his robe and turned to leave, his back looking hurried and anxious.
Pei Yanli walked anxiously to the gate of Li's house and looked up at the tall courtyard.
His feet were nailed to the spot, and he stood quietly at the door without moving, letting the night wind blow away his burning jealousy and anger.
I had an impulse in my mind and I wanted to rush in right now, but what could I do if I rushed in and found Sisi?
Ask her, is what Xiao Yunchen said true?
Regardless of whether it is true or not, it is certainly not fake.
Pei Yanli closed his eyes to calm his turbulent emotions. When he opened his eyes again, his angry eyes had calmed down.
In fact, he still has another way to go.
However, taking that path would contradict what he had insisted on in the past.
If he really did that, he would truly become a treacherous villain.
Thinking of this, Pei Yanli suddenly turned around and left.
