Chapter 84: Suicide

Xiao Yunchen hurriedly opened the door and shouted, "Go get the doctor! Go get the doctor!"

"Yes." The maid who had been serving Li Sisi personally saw Xiao Yunchen's flustered and anxious look, and her heart skipped a beat. She quickly ran to call a doctor.

The servant who had been serving Xiao Yunchen saw his master's disgrace and asked hurriedly, "Sir, what happened?"

"The second wife is ill. You must go and call the doctor immediately without delay!" Xiao Yunchen gave the order in a hoarse voice, and hurried back to the bedside.

The servant was full of confusion. Hadn't a maid in the yard just gone to call for a doctor?

Could it be that the master was afraid that the maid was slow, so he arranged for him to urge her?

It seems that the second wife is indeed seriously ill.

Inside the house, Xiao Yunchen had a sense of unreality and absurdity. He hid Li Sisi's last words into his clothes. Such a shocking thing naturally could not be known to outsiders.

He felt empty and confused inside, and even wondered if he was having a nightmare?

I pinched myself hard and felt pain. I thought I wasn't dreaming, but how could it be possible?

His wife committed suicide for her sister-in-law?

"What's going on? How could she be sick, even though she's so strong?" A harsh voice followed the sound of footsteps into the room. "I think she's just pretending!"

Madam Xiao stopped by the bed, and her harsh words stopped abruptly, "Is she really sick?"

The person on the bed was pale, with eyes closed, and even a serene curve at the corner of her lips. She would have believed Shen even if she had died, let alone that she was ill.

Xiao Yunchen didn't answer. With red eyes, he touched Li Sisi's face. The cold temperature pierced into his heart from his palm, and the remaining hope was shattered again.

At this time, Doctor Wu hurried into the room, without even having time to wipe the sweat off his forehead.

Doctor Wu was already feeling quite confused as he listened to the two servants of the Xiao Mansion urging and chattering along the way.

The first wife was poisoned to death just now, and the second wife got into trouble right after that. The Xiaohou Mansion has been really troubled recently.

He hurried all the way to the bed, and when he saw the person on the bed, his heart, which had just been restless, suddenly turned cold.

This isn't sick, this is clearly dead! With a face like that, there's no trace of life in it.

He had lived for several decades and had seen many dead people, but this was the first time he had seen someone die so peacefully. From the posture to the expression, every detail was just right and peaceful.

"Second Young Master..." Doctor Wu wanted to say that this man was definitely dead and he couldn't save him.

Unexpectedly, when Xiao Yunchen heard his voice, he suddenly raised his red eyes and pulled Doctor Wu hard, causing him to stagger.

A cold voice said in a panic, "Please help my wife. She was fine last night, but..." But she was not breathing.

Xiao Yunchen couldn't say the second half of the sentence. He hoped in his heart that maybe he was hysterical or he had seen it wrong.

Seeing him like this, Doctor Wu could only sigh in his heart, put the medicine box aside, and took the pulse of the corpse on the bed.

He spoke truthfully, "The body temperature is cold, and there is no pulse." He rolled his eyes again, touched the artery in his neck, and checked it carefully.

Xiao Yunchen watched Doctor Wu's every move intently the entire time, and finally heard the doctor's conclusion: "The Second Madam is no longer breathing. Second Young Master, please accept my condolences."

Xiao Yunchen's breathing seemed to be strangled by someone, and a string in his brain was stretched to its limit and trembled continuously as if it was about to break.

His gentlemanly character of self-discipline and courtesy made him remember to thank Doctor Wu, but his voice was dry and hazy, and he even forgot to express his gratitude.

Madam Xiao's eyes widened in disbelief, and she exclaimed, "Doctor Wu, is Shen really dead? How did she die? She was fine yesterday."

Doctor Wu said apologetically, "If you want to find the cause of death, you need to find a coroner."

Madam Xiao came to her senses after hearing this and quickly said, "Yes, find a coroner! It's impossible for such a healthy person to die just like that. There must be a reason, right?"

Madam Xiao ordered the maid beside her: "Go and get a coroner and give him some silver. Any amount will do."

"Don't go!" Xiao Yunchen growled, his deep eyes filled with intense emotions, but they were suppressed by reason.

The dry voice was filled with anger, low and deep: "The person is already dead, so what even if the cause of death is found?" Is it possible to bring someone back to life?

He knew very well how a coroner examined a corpse.

He didn't want his wife to suffer such humiliation again. Moreover, he knew the cause of his wife's death, and he was the only one who knew it!

"If we don't find out, the Shen family will definitely throw this basin of dirty water on our house. Two new brides died within a few days. Our Xiao Mansion will become a laughing stock in the capital." Madam Xiao gritted her teeth and said angrily, "These two unlucky ones will drag down our mansion even after their death!"

"Mother, please be careful with your words!" Xiao Yunchen felt angry, sad and uncomfortable.

He knew that his mother had always disliked his wife, thinking that she was not as well-educated and well-mannered as other young ladies.

But he liked her, liked her lively and unrestrained appearance, liked her bright smile when she was happy, liked her confident way of speaking out against worldly rules. He liked the way she glared at him with those bright and lively eyes when she was angry, her words were harsh, but her heart was very soft.

As long as he hugged her and said a few nice words in a soft voice, he would see her pouting proudly, as if she was reluctantly forgiving him...

Xiao Yunchen's red eye sockets seemed to have trapped a wild beast, struggling hard but unable to escape.

"Am I wrong?" Madam Xiao looked at her son's distraught appearance with a look of dismay and said angrily, "You only think about yourself. How can you be so selfish! Don't forget that your sister is not married yet! Now that something like this has happened in the mansion, what will Yun Ya do in the future~"
