The night fell like a huge black net, silently covering Lujia Village.
The joy of the day's harvest had long been washed away by the old accountant's illness, and was replaced by heavy worries.
Shen Qiqi stood at the entrance of the village, looking at the scattered lights in the distance, her heart feeling as heavy as if being pressed down by a huge rock.
She looked around and saw the villagers gathered in groups of three or four, whispering to each other, with anxiety and helplessness written on everyone's face.
There was an lingering feeling of oppression in the air, as if even breathing had become difficult.
"The medical conditions in this village are simply prehistoric!" Shen Qiqi couldn't help but complain in a low voice. She could clearly feel that this primitive medical model was simply unable to cope with emergencies.
No, something must change!
Her eyes were sharp, like a sword drawn from its sheath, its edge fully exposed.
She quickly listed out plans to improve medical care in her mind, from popularizing the most basic health knowledge to introducing modern medical equipment, and every step must be taken steadily.
She knew that this would definitely be a tough battle, but for the health of the villagers, she had to face it.
She clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her flesh, but she was unaware.
"Lu Qing, we have to find a way." Shen Qiqi turned her head and said to Lu Qing beside her in a firm tone.
Lu Qing looked at the fire in her eyes and a strong sense of responsibility ignited in his heart, "Okay, I'll listen to you!" He knew that Qiqi never did anything without confidence.
Early the next morning, Shen Qiqi decided to start with the older generation whose mindsets were rigid.
The first person she went to was the old stubborn man in the village - Uncle Li.
When Shen Qiqi earnestly explained the benefits of modern medicine, Uncle Li rolled his eyes as if he had heard some fairy tale.
"What new medicine or old medicine? It's all nonsense! Our ancestors have been using folk remedies for generations, and it's been fine, isn't it?" Uncle Li crossed his arms across his chest, with a look of disdain on his face. He looked like a spokesperson for "folk remedies."
Shen Qiqi felt like she had punched cotton. This old man was simply unyielding!
She continued to persuade him patiently: "Master, times have changed. Traditional remedies are still..."
"Oh, what do you know, little girl?" Uncle Li waved his hand suddenly, interrupting Shen Qiqi's words, "Do you want to throw away all our ancestral treasures? No way!" His voice suddenly rose, making Shen Qiqi's eardrums buzz, as if he was about to rush up and give her a baptism of "folk remedies" at any time.
Shen Qiqi looked at Mr. Li's stubborn look and knew that trying to convince him today would be harder than climbing to the sky.
The air seemed to be frozen, so heavy that it was hard to breathe.
Shen Qiqi took a deep breath and suppressed the displeasure in her heart, "Uncle, please don't get excited, I..."
Before she could finish her words, Uncle Li had already turned and walked into the house. With a bang, he slammed the door shut, leaving Shen Qiqi alone, standing there with a frown on her face.
She sighed. It seemed that the road of this "medical reform" was destined to be bumpy...
"Qiqi, you..." Lu Qing walked over, looked at her and said worriedly.
Shen Qiqi took a deep breath and suppressed the irritation in her heart. She knew that to deal with this kind of "old stubborn man", a head-on confrontation would not work, and she had to be strategic!
She turned back home and rummaged through the drawers to find some old newspapers that reported cases of cures using new medical methods.
She held the newspaper carefully in her arms and rushed back to Uncle Li's house.
"Uncle Li, please take another look. What's written here is true!" Shen Qiqi pushed open the half-closed gate of Uncle Li's house and spread the newspaper in front of Uncle Li.
Uncle Li originally wanted to chase them away, but after seeing the shocking cases in the newspaper and then looking at Shen Qiqi's sincere face, his brows furrowed slightly.
Shen Qiqi struck while the iron was hot and began to talk endlessly about the various benefits of modern medicine, from the importance of disinfection to the miraculous effects of antibiotics, speaking in a very exaggerated way.
She also vividly described the advanced medical equipment in the hospital, such as X-ray machines and ultrasound machines, which left Uncle Li stunned.
"Uncle, think about it, if our village also has these things, when people get sick in the future, will they still have to endure it like before?" Shen Qiqi's tone was a little excited, as if she had already seen a picture of a future where everyone in the village was healthy and full of hope.
As Uncle Li listened, his expression gradually softened.
Although he was still somewhat skeptical, the bright future that Shen Qiqi described quietly took root in his heart like a seed.
The originally oppressive atmosphere also became slightly relaxed as Shen Qiqi told her story.
After leaving Uncle Li's house, Shen Qiqi did not relax at all. She knew very well that this was only the first step in a long journey.
She decided to go directly to the town hospital for support.
The hospital in the town is not big, with only a few old bungalows, and the air is filled with the smell of disinfectant.
Shen Qiqi found Doctor Zhang and told him about the situation in the village.
After listening to this, Dr. Zhang frowned and shook his head helplessly.
"Hey, Comrade Shen, I know what you said, but you have seen the situation in our hospital. There are only a few doctors, and they are busy every day. We really can't spare anyone to go to your village."
He pointed at the patients coming and going in the corridor, his face full of fatigue and sadness. The whole hospital was shrouded in a tense atmosphere.
Shen Qiqi looked at Dr. Zhang's helpless expression, and her heart sank.
