After the family meeting, the Lu family's courtyard temporarily returned to its former tranquility.
The afterglow of the setting sun sprinkled on the corner of the woodshed, and everything seemed so harmonious, as if the arguments and quarrels just now had become a thing of the past.
However, beneath this calm surface, undercurrents are surging, and a new storm seems to be brewing.
Shen Qiqi took Lu Qing's hand and returned to their room, but she was not completely relaxed.
She was keenly aware that some details in the meeting were not as simple as they seemed.
Old Mrs. Lu's sharp eyes, as well as the glances secretly exchanged between her eldest aunt's wife, Mrs. Li, and her second aunt's wife, Mrs. Zhang, all made her feel uneasy.
Sure enough, when night fell, Shen Qiqi pretended to be asleep, and Lu Qing gently stroked her hair and whispered, "Qiqi, are you worried about something?"
Shen Qiqi opened her eyes, a hint of alertness in her eyes, and nodded gently, "Brother Qing, my intuition has never been wrong. They must not be that simple."
Lu Qing nodded.
Sure enough, the next morning, Shen Qiqi got up early and pretended to go to the yard to hang clothes, but she accidentally caught a glimpse of the path behind the kitchen.
Old Mrs. Lu, the eldest uncle's wife Mrs. Li, and the second uncle's wife Mrs. Zhang were gathered together, whispering.
There was obvious resentment on the faces of the three people. From time to time, there were a few harsh laughs in their low conversation, and the air was filled with a smell of conspiracy.
Shen Qiqi sneered in her heart and decided to observe their actions quietly.
She returned to the room and said to Lu Qing in a nonchalant manner, "Brother Qing, the relationship between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law in this family is really complicated. We need to pay more attention."
Lu Qing smiled and patted her head, "Qiqi, don't worry, I'm here, no one can bully you."
In the afternoon, Shen Qiqi used the excuse of going to the woodshed to get firewood and carefully observed the layout of the woodshed.
She found that the food distributed to her family was not neatly stacked according to the arrangements at the meeting, but seemed a bit messy.
She was moved and thought to herself: **Have they really started to take action?
**
At this moment, she vaguely heard footsteps outside the woodshed.
Shen Qiqi quickly dodged to the side and observed quietly.
I saw my eldest uncle's wife, Mrs. Li, walking hurriedly with a flickering look in her eyes, holding a sack in her hand, and walking stealthily into the woodshed.
Shen Qiqi's mind suddenly understood, **So that's how it is, this first step of the secret trick is to make a fuss about food.
**
She quickly returned to the room and whispered to Lu Qing, "Brother Qing, something is wrong. Li just secretly hid our food."
Lu Qing's eyes were stern, and he held Shen Qiqi's hand tightly, "Qiqi, hide first, I will handle this matter."
Shen Qiqi smiled slightly, "
At this moment, Li's hurried footsteps were heard outside the door. Shen Qiqi quickly hid behind the bed and held her breath.
Outside the door, Li's voice came: "Brother Qing, I just went to the woodshed to get something and found that some of our food was missing. Could someone have stolen it?"
Lu Qing's eyes became sharp, but there was a hint of sneer on the corner of his mouth, "Missing a part? This is really strange, is it because our family tradition is not upright enough?"
Li felt a pang of fear at the question and stammered, "Then...then I'll go check again. Maybe it was someone else's chicken that pecked at it."
Lu Qing's voice was calm and cold, "Go ahead, and talk to me after you've found out."
Li responded guiltily and left in a hurry.
Shen Qiqi walked out from behind the bed with a hint of sneer in her eyes, "Brother Qing, this good show has just begun." Shen Qiqi's mouth curled up with a sneer. She had long expected that this group of people would not give up.
Last night, she took advantage of the darkness to sprinkle some inconspicuous wood ash around the woodshed as a mark.
Early this morning, she "accidentally" discovered that the marks had been destroyed, and she knew that someone had tampered with them.
So, Shen Qiqi deliberately raised her voice and shouted to the yard: "Oh, this is really strange! Why is there a bag of food missing from my house? Could it be that food can grow legs and run away these days?"
This shout directly called out Mrs. Lu, Mrs. Li and Mrs. Zhang.
The three of them had a hint of panic on their faces, obviously not expecting Shen Qiqi to find out so quickly.
"Qiqi, what are you talking about? Who would steal your family's food?" Old Mrs. Lu asked calmly, but her eyes flickered.
"Yes, third sister-in-law, did you see it wrong?" Li also joined in. While speaking, her eyes unconsciously glanced towards the woodshed.
Zhang also agreed: "That's right, maybe it was a mouse that stole it!"
Shen Qiqi sneered and pointed in the direction of the woodshed and said, "Is it a rat that stole the food? We'll know if we go and take a look. Let's go and take a look together!"
As she spoke, Shen Qiqi took the lead and walked towards the woodshed. Mrs. Lu and the other two's expressions changed. They exchanged glances with each other and could only bite the bullet and follow.
Arriving at the woodshed, Shen Qiqi pointed to the messy ashes on the ground and said, "This is the mark I made last night. Now that the mark is messed up, it means someone has been here. Also, there is a special mark on my family's grain bag. As long as we find that bag, we will know who stole it."
Li and Zhang's faces turned pale instantly. They didn't expect Shen Qiqi to have such a trick up her sleeve.
Seeing this, Mrs. Lu quickly tried to smooth things over: "Qiqi, this might be a misunderstanding. Maybe someone bumped into it accidentally?"
Shen Qiqi looked at Old Lady Lu with a half-smile, "Really? That's such a coincidence, it just happened to come across my family's grain bag."
