"Who?!" Shen Qiqi roared furiously, feeling all the hairs on her body stand up.
Lu Qing also immediately stood in front of her, taking a defensive posture, tightly grasping the "Heavenly Book" account book in his hand, as if he was protecting some priceless treasure.
In the dim moonlight, they saw a thin figure running into the woodshed, moving faster than a rabbit.
"Second uncle's son?" Lu Qing hesitated for a moment and recognized the familiar figure.
The two looked at each other, both confused.
Why is this kid running into the woodshed in the middle of the night instead of sleeping?
Catch mice?
Driven by curiosity, the two of them tiptoed towards the woodshed, and Shen Qiqi pricked up her ears, wanting to listen to what was going on inside.
"Rustle, rustle..."
A series of tiny noises came from the woodshed, as if someone was rummaging through something.
"There must be something wrong with this kid!" Shen Qiqi said in a low voice, her tone full of gossip.
Lu Qing nodded and gently pushed open the door of the woodshed. He saw his second uncle's son squatting on the ground with his back to them, holding something in his hand.
"What are you doing?" Lu Qing shouted, scaring the boy so much that he dropped the thing in his hand to the ground.
In the moonlight, the two of them saw the thing clearly - a tattered account book, exactly the same as the one in their hands!
"I...I..." The second uncle's son stammered, his eyes flickering, not daring to look them in the eye.
"There's really something wrong with you, kid!" Shen Qiqi snatched the account book, opened it, and her expression instantly became serious.
The handwriting on this account book is even clearer than the one they have!
"This...what's going on?" Lu Qing was also dumbfounded.
The second uncle's son was so scared that his face turned pale and his lips trembled, but he couldn't say anything.
The atmosphere froze for a moment, with only the rustling of leaves in the wind and the rapid breathing of the three people.
Shen Qiqi stared at the second uncle's son closely, her eyes as sharp as a knife, making him feel creepy.
"Tell me! What's going on with this account book?"
"I...I..." The second uncle's son was so frightened that tears were about to fall. After trembling for a long time, he finally managed to say, "I don't know what happened! This account book...I found it in the woodshed!"
Shen Qiqi didn't believe his nonsense. It was obvious that this kid was guilty!
"Picked it up? Do you think we're three-year-olds? This account book was obviously hidden here on purpose!"
Lu Qing also felt that something was wrong. This kid must know something.
"You'd better tell the truth, otherwise don't blame us for being rude!"
The second uncle's son was frightened and said with a sad face, "I really don't know! I... I was just curious, so I took it out to take a look..."
"Curious?" Shen Qiqi sneered, "Curious enough to stay up late at night and rummage through the woodshed?"
The second uncle's son was speechless after being asked this question. He could only lower his head and dared not speak anymore.
At this moment, Shen Qiqi suddenly had an idea, wait!
Why does this kid's way of lying seem so familiar?
"You...were you instructed by someone?" Shen Qiqi asked tentatively.
The second uncle's son suddenly raised his head and said, "No! No one ordered me to do that!"
Shen Qiqi sneered in her heart. This kid's acting skills are too poor. It's obvious that he is lying!
"Okay, stop pretending!" Shen Qiqi waved her hands impatiently, "Who ordered you to do this? Uncle? Or second uncle?"
The second uncle's son bit his lips and refused to speak.
Just when they were at a stalemate, Shen Qiqi suddenly felt something was wrong.
Although the handwritings in these two account books are different, the paper and binding methods are exactly the same!
Could it be...
"Lu Qing," Shen Qiqi suddenly said, "Never mind the handwriting. Look at the paper and binding. Are they the same as those old account books we've seen before?"
Lu Qing was stunned, then began to observe carefully.
"Really! This paper... seems to be specially made in an old workshop. Ordinary people can't get it at all!"
Shen Qiqi's eyes lit up, and a strong premonition surged in her heart.
"I know! This account book must be related to the old house in the village!"
Lu Qing also became excited. "You mean... that abandoned old workshop?"
Shen Qiqi nodded, "That's right! Let's go and take a look now!"
The two men no longer paid attention to the second uncle's son, turned around and rushed out of the woodshed, disappearing into the night.
The second uncle's son watched them leave with a complicated look in his eyes. He finally sighed and silently picked up the account book on the ground...
"well……"
Shen Qiqi and Lu Qing sped all the way through the alleys of the village. The moonlight shone on their shoulders, illuminating two resolute figures.
The howling night wind brought a slight chill, but their hearts were burning with fighting spirit.
The two soon arrived at the abandoned old workshop, which used to be the economic lifeline of the village, but now it has become desolate, with only a few dilapidated wooden doors swaying in the wind.
Shen Qiqi looked around cautiously, her eyes penetrating the faint moonlight, trying to capture every detail.
The air was filled with a smell of dampness and decay, and the occasional cry of an owl in the distance added to the mystery of the whole scene.
Lu Qing held Shen Qiqi's hand tightly, and the two slowly approached the entrance of the old workshop.
"Be careful, there may be a trap here." Lu Qing whispered with a hint of vigilance in his tone.
Shen Qiqi nodded, her heartbeat quickened, but her eyes were firm.
