Chapter 484: A Break in Peace: Hidden Worries Emerge

In the bustling village, Shen Qiqi and Lu Qing stood, looking at the scene in front of them, their brows furrowed.

The villagers are now materially rich, but their energy and spirit seem to have been drained away.

Visually, several villagers gathered in a corner, snapping cards, and there were people watching with laughter and indulgence on their faces.

To the ear, the sound of the dice rolling in the bowl, mixed with their laughter and shouting, was particularly harsh.

Shen Qiqi and Lu Qing's eyes were solemn, and vigilance flickered in their eyes.

The tense atmosphere was like a veil, spreading vaguely in the village.

"How can this be possible? Our village has always advocated hard work to get rich. Now they are doing this, the atmosphere will be ruined." Shen Qiqi frowned and said.

Lu Qing also nodded seriously: "Indeed, we can't let this kind of atmosphere spread."

The villagers who were gambling and having fun looked indifferent, as if they didn't care about the concept of getting rich through hard work at all.

The atmosphere of opposition between them and Shen Qiqi and Lu Qing became increasingly intense, like ice and fire, incompatible with each other.

Shen Qiqi gritted her teeth, exchanged glances with Lu Qing, and strode towards the group of people.

They decided to stop this bad behavior and restore the village's atmosphere.

"What are you doing?" Shen Qiqi asked loudly, with unquestionable majesty in her voice.

However, the villagers just raised their eyelids, their faces full of ridicule, and a conflict seemed to be about to break out.

Lu Qing stood beside Shen Qiqi, staring at the villagers firmly without saying a word.

"Hey, isn't this Shen Qiqi, the capable man from our village? Why is he so nosy? He even wants to control us playing cards?" A man with a fat face said sarcastically, holding a card tightly in his hand, as if it were some treasure.

The people around also joined in the fun, and laughter rose and fell like a group of noisy ducks.

Shen Qiqi took a deep breath and tried to suppress the anger in her heart: "This is not a question of playing cards or not. Our village has always been hardworking and prosperous. What does it look like now?"

"Get rich through hard work? Now that life is better, is there any need to work so hard? Besides, we didn't steal or rob, so why is it not possible?" Another skinny man said in a shrill voice, his tone full of disdain.

Shen Qiqi felt a sense of suffocation in her chest, like a tangled mess that she couldn't sort out.

How did these people become like this?

We once worked together to build the village. Where has that spirit of unity and progress gone?

Lu Qing noticed Shen Qiqi's emotional fluctuations and held her hand tightly, giving her silent comfort and strength.

Shen Qiqi held his hand back, feeling the warmth in his palm, and felt a little more at ease.

She looked around and saw that these villagers who had once fought side by side with her had now become so unfamiliar to her, and a wave of sadness welled up in her heart.

Could it be that being rich really makes people lose their way?

Shen Qiqi did not punish them forcefully. Instead, she took a deep breath and said loudly, "How about this? Tomorrow night, everyone come to the village committee square and we'll organize an event together to recall the bitter past and think of the sweet past. How about that?"

As soon as these words were spoken, the scene became quiet instantly, leaving only the rustling sound of leaves in the wind.

The villagers looked at each other in confusion, and an atmosphere of curiosity spread among the crowd.

"Remember the bitter past and cherish the sweet past? What is that?" A young villager scratched his head, looking puzzled.

"It's just about recalling the past and thinking about how we got through it before." Shen Qiqi explained patiently.

Lu Qing added, "I hope everyone can participate in this event." He paused, glanced at the crowd, and said meaningfully, "Especially those of you present today."

That night, Lu Qing and Shen Qiqi began to prepare for the next day's activities.

They found some old items, set up the venue, and were very busy...

"Qiqi, do you think they will come tomorrow?" Lu Qing asked while moving things.

Shen Qiqi looked at the night sky with a firm look in her eyes: "I will."

The next night, the village committee square was brightly lit, crowded with people, and extremely lively.

Shen Qiqi and Lu Qing arrived at the scene early, and looking at the bustling crowd, they showed gratified smiles on their faces.

In the center of the square were some old objects: worn-out farm tools, patched clothes, a chipped bowl...

These are all testaments to the poverty of the past.

The villagers gathered around these old objects, pointing and talking about them.

"Oh, thinking back to those days, we used these tools to dig food in the fields. It was really not easy!" An old farmer said with emotion, stroking a rusty hoe with his rough fingers, as if he had returned to those difficult years.

"That's right. Back then, we were lucky to have enough food to eat. It's not like now when we can eat meat for every meal!" Another villager echoed, his tone full of satisfaction with his current life.

The event began. Shen Qiqi walked onto the stage, picked up the microphone, and spoke in a clear and loud voice: "Fellow villagers, we are here today to reminisce about the past in order to better cherish the present and look forward to the future!"

She told the story of the village's past, the struggle for survival, and the sweat and tears paid to build their hometown.

Her voice was sometimes passionate and sometimes low, deeply moving everyone present.

Some villagers had tears in their eyes as they recalled the hard days in the past and their dreams and struggles.
