Chapter 14 First Murder

The arrow pierced his throat, and before Liu Dayong could even groan, he collapsed to the ground, coughing up blood and dying.

The tranquil night was pierced. Mo Yang hurriedly withdrew his hand that was about to take the dried meat, drew his sword, and leaped into the air.

At the same time, Mo Feng put down the reins and pointed his long sword at the person behind the arrow. Suddenly, a hundred or so men in black, carrying sharp swords, surged in from both sides of the valley like a tide.

Gu Boyuan rode forward, sword in hand, to meet the attack. Dingdang tiptoed, leaped into the air, and stood upright beside the carriage. With a swing of her longsword, she created a solid wall of swords, protecting Jiang Luoluo to the greatest extent possible.

Inside the carriage, Jiang Luoluo clutched two bottles of chili powder tightly in his hands. Outside, the sounds of flashing swords and watermelons hitting the ground filled the air. Jiang Luoluo felt both nervous and afraid; this was the first time he had faced such a large-scale close-quarters assassination attempt.

Jiang Luoluo closed her eyes, the sound of clashing weapons amplified infinitely in her ears, and the faint smell of blood stimulated her nasal cavity.

She hurriedly opened the hidden compartment and took out the dagger Xie Yizhi had given her from the brocade box, holding it tightly in her hand.

Suddenly, a piercing scream rang out, "Ah!"

Yao Shiyu saw blood splattered on her carriage, and a man in black carrying a sword fell down against her carriage. Her lips trembled, and she screamed.

Gu Boyuan leaped off his horse and landed steadily on Yao Shiyu's carriage. He kept dealing with the men in black while comforting them, "Shiyu, don't be afraid. I will protect you from outside. Stay inside and don't come out."

Yao Shiyu bit her lip, choked back tears, and nodded, "Okay, Brother Boyuan."

Sitting inside the carriage, Jiang Luoluo felt that Little Red was pawing the ground with its front hooves, its breathing was becoming heavy, and it occasionally let out a few low neighs.

Jiang Luoluo's heart skipped a beat. Little Red had been hit by an arrow. This red date horse was a gift from her brother, who brought it back from the northern desert. It seemed to be exceptionally intelligent, and Jiang Luoluo liked it very much.

These past few days, whenever Jiang Luoluo feeds it hay, it stretches its head over and rubs against Jiang Luoluo's palm, staring at Jiang Luoluo with its big eyes, as if saying, "Hello, my new owner."

Jiang Luoluo mustered her courage and lifted a corner of the curtain to observe the situation. She saw that Dingdang, Mofeng, and Moyang were already fighting with the men in black in mid-air.

Xie Yizhi's black robes fluttered in the night wind. His eyes were cold and his thin lips were tightly pressed together. His killing intent was as intense as the night. Wherever his cold light touched, the men in black fell one after another. However, there was still a continuous stream of men in black rushing towards him. In an instant, Xie Yizhi was surrounded.

Out of the corner of her eye, Jiang Luoluo also saw a man in black climb onto Xie Yizhi's carriage.

The fighting continued. Jiang Luoluo focused her mind and thought. In a flash, something flashed through her mind, and she grasped it tightly.

Searching for the military tally? Their real target is Xie Yizhi!

The enemy outnumbered them and were clearly well-prepared. Although Xie Yizhi was highly skilled in martial arts, his stamina was always running out, and the enemy might use underhanded tactics.

Jiang Luoluo glanced at the steep cliffs on both sides of the valley and felt a chill run down her spine; they were trapped in a narrow crevice.

The road here is only wide enough for one carriage to pass at a time. If the enemy attacks from both sides and then uses fire or rolling stones, they will have a hard time escaping unscathed. Rather than waiting to be killed, it is better to take the initiative and attack.

Thinking of this, Jiang Luoluo tightened her grip on the dagger in her hand again. She stepped out of the carriage, and with a swift stroke, cut the ropes binding Xiao Hong. She then mounted the horse.

He shouted loudly to Dingdang and the others, "Retreat quickly! Watch out for rolling stones and fire attacks!"

Upon hearing the shout, Dingdang and the others immediately abandoned their fight and flew towards the outside of the valley.

Little Red's front hooves flew, and Jiang Luoluo tightened the reins, charging towards Xie Yizhi, who was surrounded by men in black.

Jiang Luoluo shouted, "Your Highness, mount your horse!"

Xie Yizhi understood immediately, leaping up from the crowd and landing steadily behind Jiang Luoluo. Jiang Luoluo took the lead and rushed out of the valley.

As expected, a row of men in black holding rockets blocked the valley. Xie Yi picked up Jiang Luoluo around the waist and leaped off his horse, protecting her behind him.

Xie Yizhi brandished his longsword, the sword shadow like a rainbow, drawing a cold, sharp arc in the air. With a clang, a row of arrows fell to the ground.

The sword energy repelled the man in black several meters away, and his killing intent was also abruptly cut off.

Gu Boyuan grabbed Yao Shiyu and placed her on the horse's back. He swept his longsword across the ground and followed closely behind Jiang Luoluo and the others.

Sure enough, boulders began to roll down from both sides of the valley, startling Yao Shiyu so much that she closed her eyes and screamed, "Ah!"

Gu Boyuan looked at Jiang Luoluo, who was being fiercely protected by Xie Yizhi, his eyes deep and his heart filled with bitterness.

Dingdang, Moyang, and Mofeng leaped into the air and reached the top of the cliff. Soon, the sound of a knife slicing a watermelon could be heard.

The remaining men in black in the valley were in hot pursuit. At that moment, a flaming arrow shot towards Jiang Luoluo.

Without a second thought, Jiang Luoluo immediately crouched down, covering her head, and blurted out, "An arrow is coming from your six o'clock direction." Her tone was firm and powerful.

Xie Yizhi received the order, his cold sword flashed, and a storm gathered in his eyes, as if a raging torrent would be unleashed at any moment. With a flash of cold light, the arrow that had been shot at him was split in two and fell to the ground.

Jiang Luoluo caught a glimpse out of the corner of her eye as she looked down that a man in black, who wasn't quite dead yet, was raising his long sword and slashing at Xie Yi's back.

Without a second thought, she suddenly stood up and, with all her might, threw the dagger she was holding at the man in black's chest.

With a cry of "Ah!", the man in black coughed up blood and collapsed to the ground. Jiang Luoluo's hand trembled slightly under her sleeve, and her body became weak and powerless. This was the first time she had killed someone.

Under the dim moonlight, the slender figure in the night wind trembled slightly, with faint tear stains on her face, yet she still desperately protected him.

Just like when we first met, in the fire, those thin shoulders were already carrying a heavy burden, and they stubbornly rushed forward without hesitation.

Xie Yizhi was deeply moved, as if a pebble had struck the lonely, cold ice surface, causing a crack to appear.

Xie Yizhi moved closer, and Jiang Luoluo felt the warm heat coming from beside her. After a short while, she felt her body heat return. At this moment, Xiao Hong let out a low hiss.

With everyone's combined efforts, all the men in black were eliminated. Mo Yang and Mo Feng counted them; there were a total of 208. Yao Shiyu huddled beside her horse, trembling with fear.

Jiang Luoluo mustered her courage, took a step forward, and walked to the man in black with the dagger stuck in his throat. She squatted down, her lips pressed tightly together with fear and tension, her knuckles white as she tried to pull out the dagger with trembling hands.
