It was late at night when Jiang Luoluo and Xie Yizhi left General Weiyuan's mansion. Xie Yizhi had drunk some wine that night, and he felt a little dizzy.
He helped Jiang Luoluo into the carriage. As soon as Jiang Luoluo sat down, a cold dagger was pressed against her neck.
Having been forced to a dagger by Xie Yizhi, Jiang Luoluo had developed courage, and now, backed into a corner, she felt no fear whatsoever.
Xie Yizhi suddenly sensed something was amiss inside the carriage. He flicked his longsword, splitting the curtain in two, which fell to the ground in pieces.
Inside the carriage, Gu Boyuan was holding Jiang Luoluo hostage, while Xie Yizhi's long, slender hands were bulging with veins as he gripped his long sword tightly.
She was only slightly drunk, but now she was completely sober. Dingdang had just gone back to get Jiang Luoluo a hand warmer when she returned and saw this scene.
Enraged, she gritted her teeth and drew her sword with a whoosh, pointing it directly at Gu Boyuan.
At the gate of the mansion, Jiang Chengfeng and his wife were on tenterhooks.
Jiang Luoluo remained calm, simply smiling and asking, "Gu Boyuan, are you still making a last-ditch effort even as you face death?"
Gu Boyuan made a shushing gesture, "Shh, Luo Luo, if I'm going to die, I'll drag you down with me."
Gu Boyuan looked at Xie Yizhi's cold longsword, and with his other hand slid it across Jiang Luoluo's fair neck.
With a defiant look in his eyes at Xie Yizhi, as if to say "What can you do to me?", Xie Yizhi felt a surge of killing intent and moved his longsword forward another half inch.
"Give me a decree that she can be spared from death." Gu Boyuan raised an eyebrow at Xie Yizhi, "and I'll release her!"
Xie Yizhi's cold gaze swept over Gu Boyuan, "Fine!"
Gu Boyuan smiled and touched Jiang Luoluo's face again, "What a loving couple, but unfortunately, this love should have been mine."
He suddenly grabbed Jiang Luoluo's chin, forcing her to face him. "Luoluo, what do you say?"
Jiang Luoluo smiled and softly said, "Of course it should be yours."
Even though Jiang Luoluo was already married, her every smile and gesture was even more charming, and Gu Boyuan's heart trembled for a moment.
In the instant he lost focus, Jiang Luoluo flicked her fair wrist and cursed, "Go to hell!"
Jiang Luoluo dodged Gu Boyuan's dagger by tilting her head, and then plunged a dagger into Gu Boyuan's femoral artery. In an instant, blood gushed from Gu Boyuan's lower body.
This dagger was given to her by Xie Yizhi in Yunchuan, and she has always carried it with her.
Xie Yizhi swept out with his longsword, piercing through the hand holding the dagger.
Gu Boyuan touched the thick, warm liquid beneath him and suddenly laughed.
"Lolo, you're so cruel. I didn't even have the heart to kill you."
You wanted to take my life, but you showed no mercy.
Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth as he forced a bitter smile. "Lolo, did you really never love me?"
Jiang Luoluo handed the dagger to Dingdang, and then took the handkerchief that Dingdang handed her.
She carefully wiped the places Gu Boyuan had just touched, then threw the handkerchief at Gu Boyuan's feet.
He replied casually, "Never loved!"
Gu Boyuan laughed and then cried. Luo Luo, who had once been completely devoted to him, was dead. She had died on that night in the pouring rain, on the night he lay on Yao Shiyu's bed.
Gu Boyuan glanced in Jiang Chengfeng's direction. If he hadn't made a mistake back then, wouldn't all of Xie Yizhi's glory today be his?
Is the position of Grand General of Weiyuan rightfully his?
The body, which had just been warm, opened its eyes, twitched a few times, and then slowly calmed down.
Xie Yizhi picked up Jiang Luoluo and leaped off the carriage. Mo Yang drove the wrecked carriage and went to the mass grave to dump Gu Boyuan's body there.
Back at Prince Yi's residence, after Jiang Luoluo had bathed, Xie Yizhi carried her to the bed, his cold lips pecking at the places Gu Boyuan had just touched.
As he pecked, he said, "Let my righteous spirit help the lady ward off evil!"
Jiang Luoluo was both amused and exasperated. How could someone so grown up be so childish? But she was secretly delighted and let him do whatever he wanted.
On the Double Ninth Festival, Xie Yizhi waited anxiously at the entrance of the main house. Duanmu Ling looked at her daughter's pale face and felt extremely distressed.
Inside the main house, Jiang Luoluo cried out in pain, each cry striking Xie Yizhi's heart. He disregarded all propriety and rushed in.
He lifted his robe and knelt down at the head of Jiang Luoluo's bed. He held her head in his arms, held her hand tightly, and, with tears in his eyes, cheered her on with heartache.
Xie Zhichen waited anxiously at the door, his little face tense with nervousness. He shouted loudly at the door, "Mommy, come on! Mommy, come on!"
In less than the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, a loud, wailing cry rang out in the main house.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, and Jiang Chengfeng and Xiao Chongwen, who had been keeping their heads down and silent, also let out a long sigh of relief.
"They are twins, a boy and a girl, Your Highness." The old woman quickly wrapped the children up and brought them over for Xie Yizhi to see.
Xie Yizhi glanced at her casually, then focused his gaze on Jiang Luoluo. He leaned down and gently kissed her forehead. "You've worked hard, Madam."
Jiang Luoluo had just exerted herself and was now completely exhausted, with no strength left. She slumped into Xie Yizhi's arms.
Jiang Gan and Xiao Yunwei stood by, busily helping Duanmu Ling take care of the two chubby children.
Madam Xiao glanced at the two of them, her eyes smiling, and while helping Duanmu Ling, she said, "You two should learn from this in advance."
Xiao Yunwei blushed upon hearing this, "Mother!"
Madam Xiao chuckled and said, "Oh dear, you two are getting shy. You're not getting any younger, you'd better hurry up and get married."
