Chapter 66 Why pretend to be something you're not?

On the Mid-Autumn Festival, as dawn broke, the capital city was filled with the sounds of firecrackers, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.

Today is Yao Shiyu's wedding day, but the Weiyuan General's Mansion is unusually quiet.

Jiang Luoluo gave all the servants and maids in the mansion a day off. They went out of the mansion early in the morning to stroll around and enjoy the scenery.

Only Yao Shiyu's room was meticulously decorated, with red silk hanging high, and the gauze curtains and brocade quilts were brand new, exuding a festive atmosphere that contrasted sharply with the silence of the mansion.

Yao Shiyu sat upright in front of her dressing table, as the matchmaker gently and slowly spun her face. A newly purchased maid stood beside her, serving her with meek and obedient eyes.

Standing to the side, Su Cuirong, supported by her old woman, looked at Yao Shiyu with loving eyes and said with a smile, "Our Ayu is indeed a top beauty in the capital. This bright red wedding dress makes you even more radiant and beautiful."

Upon hearing this, Yao Shiyu smiled shyly and said softly, "Grandmother, please don't tease Ayu."

As they were chatting and laughing, Lu Baimei entered with a group of maids. Each maid carried a tray filled with various exquisite gifts, including hairpins and brocades, all exuding a festive atmosphere.

"The second son's wife is here!" Su Cuirong looked at Lu Baimei, her tone carrying a hint of satisfaction, then asked, "Why didn't Yun Jiao come along?"

Lu Baimei nodded slightly and bowed, "Greetings, Mother." Then she looked up at Yao Shiyu and replied indifferently, "Yun Jiao had a high fever a few days ago and is still very weak, so she didn't come today."

Su Cuirong warmly greeted them, "Come on, sit down."

Yao Shiyu turned her head and respectfully greeted, "Second Aunt."

Lu Baimei did not respond, but simply waved to the maid behind her to put down the gift boxes one by one, and the room was immediately filled with all kinds of precious congratulatory gifts.

The matchmaker had just finished kneading the dough, and everything was ready. They were just waiting for the auspicious time for the groom to come and fetch the bride.

Lu Baimei did not sit down, but walked over to Yao Shiyu, leaned down and lowered her voice, coldly saying, "Yao Shiyu, if you dare to make a move on Yun Jiao again, I will not let you off easily!"

Yao Shiyu was startled by the sudden warning. Her smile froze for a moment before she lowered her head and replied meekly, "Aunt, I didn't."

"No?" Lu Baimei sneered. "You may be able to fool others, but you can't fool me."

The feud between you and Jiang Luoluo is your own business. If you dare to use Yun Jiao to scheme for you again, next time, I will not consider any familial ties whatsoever.

Yao Shiyu lowered her head, a cold glint flashing in her eyes. Today should have been her joyous day, but her beloved mother was not by her side, and she had to endure threats from others.

All of this was caused by Jiang Luoluo, and she will definitely remember this humiliation deeply.

Yao Shiyu took a deep breath, calming her inner resentment and loneliness.

After this day, she will become Gu Boyuan's wife, and in the future, she will surely ascend to that high position that everyone envies.

At that time, she would repay a hundredfold to those who had shamed, humiliated, and coerced her.

"The auspicious hour has arrived!" the master of ceremonies announced, and joyous music suddenly filled the air. The area inside and outside General Weiyuan's mansion was instantly bustling with activity, and the crowd of onlookers scrambled to grab the wedding candies that were being distributed.

Wearing a red veil, Yao Shiyu walked out slowly, supported by Su Cuirong and her maid.

Gu Boyuan rode a tall horse, his bright red wedding robes making him look even more dashing.

He reined in his horse in front of the mansion gate, dismounted amidst the salutes and cheers, and strode into the mansion.

Jiang Yuelan is confined to Yuanhua Temple and did not appear today.

Gu Boyuan walked straight to Su Cuirong and solemnly took Yao Shiyu's hand from hers.

The two knelt before Su Cuirong, whose eyes were slightly red and full of love. She gently instructed them, "Good children, you must support each other and live in harmony from now on."

Don't worry about Grandma; just remember to come visit me often.

After bidding farewell to his maternal grandmother, Gu Boyuan bent down, steadily carried Yao Shiyu on his back, and strode out of the Weiyuan General's Mansion.

Guests cheered and firecrackers went off one after another, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.

After Yao Shiyu was helped into the ornately decorated bridal sedan chair by her maid, Gu Boyuan mounted his horse and, with a dashing and unrestrained air, spurred it on. Surrounded by a crowd, they made their way to the Gu residence in a grand procession.

The onlookers were abuzz with discussion.

"This female doctor Yao's dowry is truly substantial!"

"That's right, look at this magnificent procession, there must be more than eighty dowry carriages!"

Sitting in the carriage, Yao Shiyu listened to the discussions outside, a smug smile appearing on her lips.

Fortunately, she came up with a solution early on, which made the scene appear so splendid.

However, a sudden commotion interrupted her smugness. Someone in the crowd accidentally bumped into the procession carrying the dowry, and several servants carrying the sedan chair fell to the ground one after another. Several wooden boxes were thrown heavily to the ground, and the lids of the boxes instantly fell apart.

With a loud "bang," what was revealed in the box was not a treasure, but a heavy stone!

The onlookers were immediately in an uproar.

"What's going on? The dowry was filled with stones?"

"I knew it! Vice General Yao left early, and Madam Yao committed another crime. Where did Doctor Yao get so much dowry?"

"It's all a lie! They just hired some people to pretend and give her face!"

"Eighty dowry boxes? They might all be empty chests filled with stones. What a disgrace!"

The commotion grew louder, and the scene descended into chaos. The onlookers pointed and whispered, many with mocking expressions.

Upon hearing the sound, Gu Boyuan frowned, quickly dismounted, and organized people to clean up the scene.
