Chapter 47 The Life-Saving Birth Father is a Widow
Ganlu was tidying up the files of the previous man in labor when she looked up and was startled. The person in front of her had blond hair, an earring, and his head was almost touching the ceiling.
"Oh, you are, you are...the one from Doctor Meng's family?" She almost bit her tongue as she spoke.
"Yes, my name is Tianle, hello."
Ganlu slowly stood up, still somewhat stunned as she faced his outstretched hand.
Looking at his face, I'm not really used to such a refined way of interacting with him. It seems like I should offer a fist bump, or even have a fight to be more appropriate.
Gan Lu subconsciously rubbed her hands on her white coat, then immediately offered them to him and shook hands. He even gave her a slight shake.
It was the first time Tianle had shaken hands with a human other than his master, and he was even a little excited. He felt a sense of warmth because the person was his master's friend.
Gan Lu withdrew her hand, but felt a sudden unease. She asked, "Are you here to see Doctor Meng? She's in the office over there. I'll take you there..."
Tianle shook his head and said, "No, I made an appointment and I'm here for the checkup."
An inspection? Gan Lu glanced at the sign by the door: "Do you know what kind of inspection this is?"
"I know." Tianle had already lay down on the small bed next to him. He had learned a lot of information from his phone, such as how to register at the hospital and what kind of examinations he should have at the obstetrics and gynecology department.
Seeing that he was already lying down and had even lifted his clothes to reveal his smooth skin, Ganlu was shocked and placed the instrument on his chest and abdomen.
A bunch of images appeared on the screen, and the instrument made a few beeps, but even without this result, she had already guessed it.
Judging from Tianle's reaction, she already knew the outcome.
Tianle is four months pregnant, but strangely, she can't see the position or shape of the fetus inside.
Although she was studying medicine, she couldn't help but feel anxious and fearful after hearing so many rumors about the backyard garbage dump.
Could it be that Tianle is not a 'human'?
Does Dr. Meng know about this?
She suppressed her thoughts and used her professional skills, which she had always honed, and the advice that Meng Yiqiong had taught her many times: don't panic in the face of trouble.
Tianle had already sat up and covered himself with his clothes. His master had taught him that he shouldn't expose his skin or feet when he was out.
Facing the expectant face before her, Ganlu smiled and said to him, "Congratulations..."
Before he could finish speaking, the man ran off like a dog, bumping right into Meng Yiqiong, who had just finished surgery.
Yi Qiong was seeing stars from the impact, perhaps because she was exhausted from the consecutive surgeries. Tian Le quickly supported her and showed her the pregnancy test results in his hand.
Meng Yiqiong had seen this many times before, but she didn't expect Tianle to be here. So she took the form from his hand and asked, "Whose is this? What are you doing with this?"
Tianle, as if he had just picked up a bone, boasted to her, "It's mine, it's mine! Sister Jianjie made me have it!"
A bolt from the blue exploded overhead.
Meng Yiqiong quickly pulled him into her office, closed the door, and looked out through the glass for a while to make sure Gan Lu wasn't eavesdropping before dragging him to the window and asking in a low voice, "What did you say? Jianjie let you have it? How did you get it?"
Tianle noticed her somewhat serious expression, but he was used to his master's poker face, so he said, "Sister Jianjie said you have... that idea."
Meng Yiqiong was taken aback; Jianjie's thoughts were so sensitive that she had actually seen through them.
Indeed, after delivering that baby, she had reached the required number. Everyone in the corridor thought she had come out of the operating room, but she had actually just come out of a secret room.
She has lit the last petal of the purple lotus, initiating the countdown to her death.
When Tianle staggered, it wasn't entirely due to dizziness, but rather fear of the unknown.
Even so, Song Kaifeng still allowed her to retain her genes so that he could clone someone as talented and easily manipulated as her.
Tianle said the same thing: "She got the master's factor for me, conducted experiments in my body, and luckily became pregnant with this child."
It wasn't surprising that Jianjie could access the genes she left behind; Jianjie was now practically omnipotent. She had donated countless sums to the hospital and was even named one of the top ten philanthropists last year. Since Anan left, she had changed.
Meng Yiqiong had no relatives in this world, and all her affairs were entrusted to her care. Yet, when Tianle asked her for something, she actually gave it to him.
Meng Yiqiong felt a chill run from her feet to the top of her head. Looking at Tianle's innocent face, she was at a loss for words.
"Tianle, do you...do you really want this child?" she asked with difficulty.
Tianle nodded vigorously, his eyes sparkling with excitement: "Of course we want it, Master, this is our child!"
Meng Yiqiong closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and tried to calm herself down. However, looking at Tianle's expectant expression, she really couldn't bear to refuse.
"Tianle, do you know? This child... might cause me a lot of trouble," she said tentatively.
Tianle paused for a moment, then gave a reassuring smile: "Master, don't be afraid, I will protect you. No matter what happens, I will be by your side."
Meng Yiqiong couldn't explain it to him clearly in a short time. The surgery she had just performed was with a widower. His wife had left him when he was seven months pregnant, and he had never been able to get over that trauma. When he was over eight months pregnant, he went into labor and was rushed to the hospital.
After more than half a month of efforts to protect the pregnancy, Meng Yiqiong finally went into labor yesterday afternoon. She was in danger several times during the process, but she managed to save her.
Meng Yiqiong saw the man in labor still thinking of his wife, clutching one of her necklaces to encourage himself. Then she thought about the future, watching her daughter grow up to resemble her departed wife, and how she would spend the remaining decades of her life. The thought filled her with unbearable cruelty.
She had thought of this as well, when she was on the Ferris wheel that day. Tianle had been abandoned once, and if she left now, he would be all alone again. Although his eight hundred years of life was a long time, her mere twenty-five years were probably less than a fraction of his. Even if she lived to be a hundred, in the eyes of a race like Tianle's, which could live forever, in their endless lifespan, she would be nothing more than a passerby.
However, she actually felt that if she left like this, wouldn't she be the same as those owners who abandoned their pets?
She never expected Tianle to make such a decision. An unprecedented bond grew and spread in her heart. She believed she had never wanted to be bound by anything in her life, and she disliked staying in one place for any person or thing.
Tianle continued, "Master, don't worry. Unlike humans, our species doesn't have such a long gestation period. In just five or six months, we can have a puppy to keep us company."
Meng Yiqiong had no experience in this area either, and couldn't help but wonder if her child with Tianle was human or dog? Or perhaps a new species that also needed to cultivate to take human form?
For the first time, Tianle didn't avoid her gaze. He knew in his heart that his behavior was somewhat selfish.
He used Meng Yiqiong's factor without her consent. Although the master authorized it, and anyone could use it later, Tianle couldn't wait any longer.
Since Jianjie told him that her master had almost collected enough newborns, and that all she had to do was light the purple lotus in the secret chamber, her master would only have one month left to live, and he could no longer wait.
If, at most, the child can be born prematurely in a month, then the newborn's genes can extend Meng Yiqiong's life by a hundred years. The Tianle race possesses this ability; with each newborn, their genes can extend the life of any person by a hundred years. Naturally, however, the child must be accepted by a caregiver.
However, Jianjie had a different idea. Tianle's people could save lives not only through their genes, but also through the umbilical cord blood of newborns.
She didn't want the other ingredient; she only wanted the umbilical cord blood from Tianle's newborn. With just this one crucial ingredient, she could save Anan's life.
Anan is about to come back to life!
Although it meant the loss of both mother and child, the baby in her womb would likely not survive. Moreover, the fetal toxin had been in Anan's body for so long; if she were to revive immediately, the toxin might re-enter her body, causing her further suffering. In that critical situation, she had no guarantee of successfully saving the child.
But we have to try, even if it's just to say a few more words to him, even if he's just a mindless walking corpse.
She missed Anan so much. She wished her Anan could say a few more words to her, just a few words, enough to give her motivation for years to come.
She couldn't help but recall the last time Meng Yiqiong mentioned Anan's death anniversary, and asked her, "Seven years have passed, are you still unable to let go?"
This seemed to be the first time she had retorted: "Sister Yiqiong, you make it sound so easy. If it were your lover, could you really let go of him after seven years?"
An expression that Meng Yiqiong had never seen before appeared on her face: "I forgot that you have never experienced what 'love' is, you have never loved anyone, nor have you ever been loved. So you can take things on and put them down easily, seemingly indifferent and calm, but in reality you are extremely cold-hearted."
Meng Yiqiong was somewhat stunned by Jianjie's words. She had never thought deeply about her attitude towards emotions, and no one had ever pointed out her indifference so bluntly.
She opened her mouth, wanting to refute, but found herself at a loss for words.
Jianjie's eyes flickered slightly. She lowered her head and said softly, "I want to let myself go, but every time I think of Anan, my heart feels like it's being cut by a knife. I can't forget him."
Meng Yiqiong sighed. She knew she couldn't fully persuade Jianjie, and only now could she begin to understand that feeling a little better.
If someone told her that Tianle would completely forget her, even thousands or tens of thousands of years later, when she would long be nothing but a speck of dust, she seemed to feel that overwhelming emotion again.
She couldn't accept it at first.
Tianle barged into her life like that, and she couldn't accept his departure.
