Chapter 50

Chapter 50

It is a sunny day today. If you get up early, you can see a thin layer of fog rising from the Bian River. The fog evaporates for a long time and it probably needs the fumigation of the sun to bring out the colors.

Su Guoer calmly changed into a pink satin dress, tied her hair into a bun, and placed an indigo cloth on her head to cover the traces of the hairpin.

After pushing the cart for making duck oil pancakes out, she returned to the kitchen and started kneading the dough and making the dough pieces. After each piece was made, she spread it out in a basket and put it away.

Fatty also got up and helped her move the stove for the mutton soup outside, and also moved out all the pots, pans, and utensils needed for the mutton soup.

When everything was ready, Madam Cui came over, washed her hands and started to get busy.

Even at this moment, the fog had not yet dissipated, but a few customers had already come to the stall. There were not many people, mostly night watchmen and people carrying packages on their backs rushing out of the city.

Because they had to queue up at the city gate early, they got up early and had no time to cook, so they thought of just having a quick bite at a stall in the city.

As luck would have it, I saw a few stalls along the Bian River.

An old man, who was selling tofu, had just arrived at the stall pushing a cart. The tables and chairs had not been unloaded yet, and it would probably take a while for him to finish his work.

There is a mutton soup stall on a street corner facing Mingyue Tower. It seems that this stall has been open here for a long time. Anyway, he can see it every time he passes by.

Occasionally, they also sell some snacks such as wontons and pancakes.

It’s considered an old store in Bianjing City, right?

There was another stall at the entrance of a restaurant. There were no tables or chairs at the entrance, only a pancake oven and a large pot with steam sizzling out of it.

There was a faint aroma of mutton soup in the air, but I didn't know which shop it came from.

Is this restaurant newly opened? Liu Yinghu hesitated for a moment, but finally chose to sit down at this old stall.

I ordered a dough pancake and a bowl of mutton soup.

The guy selling mutton soup said: "Okay! Sir, please take a seat. The mutton soup is ready!"

As he was talking, he grabbed a handful of mutton offal from the bowl of mutton beside him, shook it, and threw another handful into the large Haikou spoon. He rinsed it twice in the thick soup, then turned it upside down in a small bowl and casually pinched two slices of chopped green onion into it.

Pour a spoonful of fresh soup on top.

The mutton offal soup is ready.

He picked up a round white flour cake and placed it on the plate, and served it to the diners along with the mutton soup.

"Please enjoy your meal! You can always have more mutton soup if you don't have enough."

This is a courtesy to him.

Liu Yinghu nodded and said something polite, then looked down at the mutton soup in the bowl. The green of the green onions and the white of the mutton were different from the white of the thick soup. However, in his eyes, this combination looked... not very appetizing.

Mutton should be red, right? Stir it with chopsticks, and a small piece of red mutton will appear. The rest is mostly white lamb tripe, lamb liver, lamb offal, etc.

He remained silent, thinking that all meals outside were like this. Who would give you so much mutton to make more money? It was already good enough to get a refill of mutton soup.

He lowered his head and took a sip of the boiling hot mutton soup. After taking a sip, he was shocked by the bland taste in his mouth.

Pepper is an expensive foreign spice, so it's normal that people are reluctant to add it.

But isn't this shop owner a bit too stingy? A bowl full of mutton soup, and not even a hint of salt? It tastes... bland.

He even felt that even the mutton soup made by him, who was not much of a cook, tasted better than this.

He frowned and wanted to return the mutton soup, but the soup was already in his mouth and he couldn't return it. He had to pick up the unleavened bread and take a bite in frustration.

Maybe the pancake had been left out for too long, and it took me a long time to take a bite.

He could only continue chewing his bread in frustration. When he was almost done, he took a mouthful of mutton soup and swallowed it. Only then did he feel the itchy feeling in his mouth ease a little.

Hey, he couldn't help but sigh. Why was it so awkward to have a meal so early in the morning?

As he thought about it in a depressed mood, his eyes began to wander around, hoping to divert his attention. Perhaps the mutton soup and pancakes would be easier to eat.

As he watched, his eyes were drawn to the figures of several young ladies who were still busy over there. It wasn't that he had any lustful thoughts, but the main thing was that the young lady in the lead was so neat and efficient when cooking!

The tall figure stood in front of the stove. With the stretching and pulling of her slender arms, the dough in her hand seemed to come alive and was rolled into a long strip by her. Then she put it on the chopping board and cut it into small pieces.

After kneading the dough repeatedly, she had kneaded it into the size of a palm. She then deftly scooped something from the bowl beside her and put a white ball into the dough.

After a few more ups and downs, the dough was shaped into a palm-sized pancake. After sprinkling some sesame seeds on it, it was put into the oven and baked.

Next one.

What is that for sale?

Liu Yinghu was puzzled, and while watching, he stuffed the biscuits in his hands quickly without realizing it. By the time he reacted, all the unleavened biscuits had been eaten.

He felt a lump in his throat, so he decided to go over and see what kind of food the girls were selling. So he stood up, bowl in hand, tilted his head back, and ate the mutton offal along with the soup.

As if he felt nothing, he slapped the silver on the table, ignored the shopkeeper's groaning behind him, and walked straight to the stall in front of the restaurant.

"Hey, sir? Sir? But this pancake and mutton soup don't suit your taste? Why don't you try my new dish, mutton pot stickers? They're delicious, full of mutton, and only ten cents a portion..."

Without hearing what the clerk said, Liu Yinghu had left the stall in a moment and walked straight towards Su Guoer's shop.

He could already smell the faint aroma of mutton soup before he arrived. Later he realized that the aroma came from this stall.

Since he wasn't full anyway, he simply went up and asked, "What kind of food is this store selling?"

When Su Guoer looked up, she saw a burly man with a sword on his back and a full beard on his face. His eyes were bright when he spoke, and he couldn't take his eyes off the dough flying in Su Guoer's hands.

Su Guoer said: "We have duck fat pancakes, pot stickers, mutton soup, and everything else. If you want braised meat, we have that too."

Judging by the time, the three pots of braised meat in the backyard should be ready.

And the pot of pot stickers I made early in the morning.

Although not many people eat pot stickers, there are still regular customers, and this pot of pot stickers is prepared for them.

If you can’t sell all of it, eat it yourself.

The bearded man didn't seem to listen to Su Guoer's words. He just stared at the baked buns in the basket.

At the end, he said: "Give me one portion each, I want to taste it!"
