Chapter 23 I want them all! Okay!
An Fusheng did not sleep in today.
Because he didn't lock the door when he went to sleep last night, Afu poked his little head out through the crack in the door early this morning and attracted An Shisi and Wen Xingmou into his room.
The two people and the cat thought they were speaking quietly in his room, but in reality, they were making quite a lot of noise.
An Fusheng was forced to get up early.
He only remembered that he was a working man and had to make breakfast!
"Thank goodness I'm up." Walking into the kitchen, remembering that he hadn't bought any ingredients for breakfast yesterday, An Fusheng muttered as he rummaged through the refrigerator, "Calm down, don't panic!"
There was only a small piece of lean meat left over from yesterday in the refrigerator.
However, there were a few potatoes on the floor next to the refrigerator, which were leftovers from making wolf tooth potatoes yesterday.
An Fusheng and his dog, Sui Sui, searched the kitchen and found leftover rice in the rice cooker.
"Perfect!"
An Fusheng excitedly picked up the small basket used for rinsing rice and went to the vegetable garden behind the kitchen.
Only a small section of the vegetable garden was harvested, with a few sea geese planted sparsely.
The vegetables probably weren't taken care of after being planted; they're small and sparsely grown. Yesterday at noon, he already picked the slightly larger ones, so today I had to go after the smaller ones.
"I'll plant some more for you next time," An Fusheng said, comforting the now-defunct vegetable garden as he pulled up some vegetables.
The devil's claws have swept through, leaving not a single vegetable in the garden, but at least there's enough for breakfast today.
Leftover rice, lean meat, and green vegetables are used to make a vegetable and lean meat porridge. Potatoes are shredded and made into potato pancakes. This breakfast is time-saving and effortless, and it has both dry and wet ingredients. Anyone who sees this will definitely give it a thumbs up before leaving.
Bai Mangmang hadn't finished her homework and had already rushed to school early to catch up. Lou Lan gave her money to buy breakfast on the way.
An Shisi and Wen Xingmou went to the kindergarten for breakfast.
Wen Xinghe and Wen Xingrui were still waiting for Lou's mother to help them wash up.
Wen Xinglin was the only one sitting at the dining table waiting for breakfast.
An Fusheng placed the porridge on the table. When Wen Xinglin saw the large pot of thick, mushy porridge, he couldn't help but shudder: Why is it porridge again? He really didn't want to eat porridge.
But he still politely said "thank you" to An Fusheng, and then quietly got up from his chair, picked up his own bowl and filled it with porridge.
He shouldn't be picky about food, but it shouldn't matter if he eats a little less, right? Wen Xinglin filled his bowl halfway, stared at the porridge for a long time, and then scooped a spoonful into his mouth with a look of grim determination.
Hmm? It smells good? Delicious!
Wen Xinglin quickly finished the porridge in his bowl and continued to pour himself more. The stainless steel bowl became too hot to handle when it was half full, so Wen Xinglin put the bowl on the table and filled it to the brim.
"Don't just drink porridge, there are potato pancakes too." An Fusheng brought in the potato pancakes and saw that the porridge in Wen Xinglin's bowl was almost overflowing.
An Fusheng placed a plate of steaming hot potato pancakes on the table. Eight potato pancakes were arranged in two rows on the plate, golden brown and slightly charred, looking very delicious.
Wen Xinglin put down the spoon he was using to scoop porridge and grabbed a potato pancake. "It's so hot!"
An Fusheng immediately took the pancake from his hand, put it on a plate, and placed it in front of him. "Is it too hot?"
"Let me see." An Fusheng grabbed Wen Xinglin's hand as he tried to pull it back. "His fingers are a little red, but it's nothing serious. Luckily, I let them air dry in the kitchen for a while after I cooked them."
Wen Xinglin's raven-feather-like eyelashes trembled, and his cheeks gradually turned red.
An Fusheng raised his hand and blew on it, "It's okay, it doesn't hurt anymore."
Wen Xinglin silently withdrew his hand.
It seems like the pain really doesn't hurt anymore.
After An Fusheng left, he slowly reached for the potato pancake on the plate, took a bite, and found it crispy on the outside and warm on the inside—delicious!
An Shisi and Wen Xingmou finished getting ready and went downstairs to wait for Wen Xinglin to go to school together, only to find Wen Xinglin still engrossed in eating in the restaurant.
“Brother Xinglin, haven’t you finished eating yet? You’re so slow, we’ve already prepared everything… Wow, what’s this?” Wen Xingmou asked, pointing at the potato pancake.
"It's potato pancakes, would you like some?" An Fusheng walked into the restaurant and placed a glass of warm water in front of Wen Xinglin.
"It looks so delicious... but... I have to go to kindergarten for breakfast," Wen Xingmou said hesitantly.
"It shouldn't be a problem to eat a little first," An Fusheng said.
"It shouldn't matter..." Wen Xingmou said.
An Fusheng almost burst out laughing; the child was just too adorable!
An Fusheng gave Wen Xingmou and An Shisi each a potato pancake, and the two of them grabbed the pancakes and started eating them with gusto.
"Brother, this potato pancake is delicious!"
Lou Lan finished tidying up and went downstairs, only to see two little children pouncing on their food at the restaurant entrance. She laughed and said, "Why are you eating already?"
"My brother said we can eat just a little bit first," Wen Xingmou said.
"Of course," Lou Lan said. "Has Xing Lin finished eating? If you're done, let's go. It's almost time."
"I'm done eating." Wen Xinglin quickly finished the porridge in his bowl and came out with half a potato pancake.
Lou Lan: "Let's go, we can eat the pancakes as we walk."
Wen Xingmou: "The potato pancakes are so delicious!"
An Shisi: "Potatoes taste good no matter how you cook them."
Wen Xinglin: "Big brother's cooking is the best."
An Shisi: "Yes."
...
The group ate and discussed as they left.
An Fusheng went upstairs to find Wen Xinghe and Wen Xingrui.
Lou's mother had already washed and dressed them. Wen Xingrui was doing sit-ups in his cage, while Wen Xinghe sat quietly on the carpet.
An Fusheng took Wen Xingrui out of the cage. Wen Xingrui happily tried to kiss him, but An Fusheng pressed his face down and said, "Shut up!"
Wen Xingrui wasn't annoyed; he just chuckled at An Fusheng.
"What are you laughing at!" An Fusheng tucked him under his arm again, making him thrash around in the air. "This way suits you better."
An Fusheng, carrying Wen Xingrui, came to Wen Xinghe's room and asked softly, "Little Xinghe, would you like to go down for breakfast?"
Wen Xinghe turned to An Fusheng, thinking to himself that going down there would be a lot of trouble for his older brother, but he said aloud, "Okay."
Although Wen Xinghe was seven years old, she was thin and small. An Fusheng felt that she was not even as tall as An Shisi.
Wen Xinghe groped her way to her feet and reached out to An Fusheng to help her up, but An Fusheng simply picked her up and said, "Let's go down quickly, the potato pancakes won't taste good if they get cold."
After feeding the two children, An Fusheng took them to the activity room to play. The children played with toys on the floor while An Fusheng thought about what to eat for lunch and dinner, as well as other things to do that day.
He only started looking for a job after his boss left the day before yesterday. He applied for a job yesterday and was hired immediately. He hasn't had a chance to resign yet. Today is Monday, and his boss should be back at work. He needs to go and say goodbye to his boss. Also, he should thank the security guard who helped him find a job.
An Fusheng planned to buy all the groceries for the day in the morning, and after lunch, while the children took their afternoon nap, he would go to the company.
"I'm going to buy groceries, do you want to come with me?" An Fusheng asked Wen Xinghe.
An Fusheng remembered that back in the village, the children looked forward to going to the market with the adults. Going to the market here is similar to going back home. Yesterday, Bai Mangmang and the others had a lot of fun.
Most importantly, An Fusheng is now very strong, and carrying the child on his back to buy groceries is no problem for him.
Aside from being taken to the hospital by Aunt Lou for vaccinations, Wen Xinghe had hardly left the orphanage. She was instinctively a little scared, "I...I won't go."
"Are you really not going?" An Fusheng asked. "The market is so lively."
"I'm not going." Wen Xinghe was tempted, but after thinking about his situation, he declined.
"Alright then, I'll only take Wen Xingrui with me."
"good."
"So, do you want to play in the room, or do you want to play here?"
Wen Xinghe thought she might as well stay here and play, so she wouldn't have to bother her older brother to take her to her room. But she wasn't familiar with the area and couldn't find the toilet.
After thinking for a moment, Wen Xinghe said, "I want to go play in my room."
An Fusheng picked up Wen Xinghe and said, "Alright, let's go to the room then."
An Fusheng escorted Wen Xinghe to her room and then brought Afu over to keep her company. "Let Afu play with you. It's very well-behaved and won't bite."
Wen Xinghe took Afu and held her soft hand in his.
“Afu is a white kitten,” An Fusheng said, “but its fur is dirty, like a little tabby cat.”
As Wen Xinghe listened to An Fusheng's description, he imagined what Afu looked like.
"Then I'm leaving. If Afu runs away, don't worry about it, okay?"
"knew."
An Fusheng took Wen Xingrui to buy groceries. They walked from the orphanage to the market, still undecided about what to eat.
At the entrance of the market, some elderly men and women were setting up stalls to sell their own vegetables. An Fusheng saw a small pile of eggs in front of an old woman and walked over.
When the old woman saw An Fusheng walking towards her, she asked warmly, "Young man, are you buying eggs? They're all free-range eggs."
Seeing that he was carrying a child on his back, he said, "Children need to eat free-range eggs for nutrition."
An Fusheng nodded. He used to see people coming to the village to buy eggs, saying they were for children or new mothers.
"How much is one?" An Fusheng asked.
"Sixteen yuan a pound," the old woman said.
City people sell eggs by weight. An Fusheng estimated the weight of each egg and said, "Weigh me one jin (500 grams)."
"Okay." The old woman chatted with An Fusheng while picking up the eggs: "Are you taking care of the child by yourself?"
An Fusheng: "Mm."
Where are the child's grandparents?
"There are no grandparents."
Where is your wife?
"Huh? I... don't... don't have a wife."
The old woman weighed out a full pound for An Fusheng.
The vendors around him also beckoned to An Fusheng to buy some of their vegetables.
An Fusheng thought they all looked good, so he picked and bought some of them.
The grandparents were very hospitable. They not only weighed him to the last penny, but also played with Wen Xingrui. One of the grandmas even said she would introduce An Fusheng to a potential partner.
An Fusheng thought these grandpas and grandmas were really nice.
In no time, he bought three kinds of vegetables: red radishes, green peppers, scallions, garlic, cilantro, and a few bunches of seedlings, a very fruitful haul.
After buying enough vegetables, An Fusheng went inside to buy meat, vegetables, bean products, and so on. If he didn't know what to make, he would buy a little of everything. Once he had bought everything, he would know how to combine them.
I have to say, the city's farmers' markets are great; they sell chicken, duck, fish, and meat wherever you want, and they can sell them to you individually.
There was a pile of duck feet, duck wings, and duck gizzards at the duck meat stall. An Fusheng was a little excited. These were all his favorite foods. Before, when his family killed a duck, these were never enough to eat. Now, he was finally going to have free access to duck offal! Hahaha!
An Fusheng pointed at the pile of duck offal and shouted arrogantly, "Boss, I'll take all of these!"
"Okay!"
