Chapter 240 The Man in the Shadows

Chapter 240 The Man in the Shadows

"Sister Pearl, it's going to rain heavily again, what should we do at the scene?" The surveyors ran over to ask Chen Zhenzhu.

This year's weather is unusual; Liancheng, nestled in the bay, has not seen a typhoon pass through for a decade.

Shen Zhenzhu glanced at the cloud-covered sky and said, "Have someone protect the scene. Let's call it a day."

"Okay, I'll go arrange it right away."

Shen Zhenzhu thought for a moment and then called Zhao Qiqi over: "Brother Qiqi, did you get a good look at the woman with the child just now?"

Zhao Qiqi said, "I looked carefully, my memory is really good. Is there a problem?"

Shen Zhenzhu said, "They are probably merchants from the neighborhood. They brought their children here on purpose, perhaps to hide something. We need to have someone keep an eye on them."

Zhao Qiqi said clearly, "Arrange for people to patrol around their house. They'll naturally come to report clues when they can't resist the urge."

Shen Zhenzhu smiled: "That's the idea. You can't force things without evidence."

Zhao Qiqi said, "I'll make the arrangements right away. Wait for me in the car."

"good."

Thunder rumbled in the sky, urging the people in the market to leave.

Wu Zhongguo came down from the top floor, holding a pager, and said, "The old man's rheumatism has flared up, I have to go back for a bit, I'll come back when I'm done."

"The weather's bad, don't bother, we'll take you first." Shen Zhenzhu got into the police car to take Wu Zhongguo first, but he insisted on getting off at the bus stop.

As Chen Zhenzhu returned to her office, a torrential downpour began.

Zhao Qiqi clutched her stomach and said, "I'm starving. I'm going to the cafeteria first. What should I bring?"

"No, I don't have much of an appetite."

Shen Zhenzhu looked at the several files on her desk, all of which were related to Wang Jiali's "lucky event".

Eager to solve the case, Shen Zhenzhu called the store to say she would work overtime and sat alone at her desk, reviewing the "1992 train track signal light malfunction accident" and the "1993 Bayu Island fishing boat engine damage accident".

The torrential rain, like a curtain, approached from east to west. The wind whipped the curtains wildly, plunging the room into darkness.

"Why aren't the lights on?" Gu Yanzheng came in carrying several lunchboxes, turned on the incandescent light, walked to the coffee table, put down the lunchboxes, and then closed the windows tightly.

Chen Zhenzhu closed the file, followed the smell, and said happily, "My mom made braised pork with dried bean curd!"

"Even a dog's nose isn't as sharp as yours." Gu Yanzheng opened his lunchbox and handed Shen Zhenzhu a pair of chopsticks: "You won't eat properly unless I'm watching you. People need to eat to survive, do you need your boss to teach you that?"

Chen Zhenzhu shoveled a mouthful of fragrant rice into her mouth and said matter-of-factly, "You're not my boss anymore."

Gu Yanzheng put some food on her plate and said matter-of-factly, "You're my boss now."

The dried bean curd sticks, soaked in rich meat juices and savory sauce, become soft, chewy, and flavorful after being stewed in a thick, dark sauce. The pork belly is fatty but not greasy, with layers of aromas from beans, meat, and savory sauce.

Shen Zhenzhu took a big bite and exclaimed, "Rice killer!"

"Sixth Sister also said that you haven't had a good appetite lately. I saw her picking out beef, so I'm going to stir-fry some beef strips for you to eat with your rice."

Chen Zhenzhu immediately perked up, swallowed hard, and said, "Haven't you ever tried my mom's shredded beef?"

Gu Yanzheng continued eating slowly and deliberately, silently placing a slightly leaner piece of meat into Shen Zhenzhu's bowl: "I've never eaten this before."

Chen Zhenzhu perked up and chattered on, “My mom makes shredded beef with fresh shank, which she shreds into extremely thin strips, then stir-fries with dried chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorns until it’s very pungent, and then deep-fries it and stir-fries it with minced ginger and garlic. A pound of shank only yields a little over three ounces of shredded beef. It’s spicy, salty, and fragrant, and the more you chew, the more delicious it becomes! Last year, I was too tired from handling cases and had no appetite, so my mom made it for me once, just once, and it was like celebrating the New Year.”

"She's got a discerning palate," Gu Yanzheng said. "I don't think she's interested in many muscular pieces, so let's keep our voices down and not let anyone hear us."

Shen Zhenzhu nodded vigorously and said stingily, "I didn't tell anyone when I ate it last year."

Gu Yanzheng chuckled: "No wonder I didn't know."

Shen Zhenzhu patted her chest and said, "Given our friendship, I'll definitely get you a copy."

Lu Ye came in from outside, carrying a serving of stinky tofu and fried noodles, and overheard the conversation: "What have you two been secretly trading this time?"

Shen Zhenzhu sat up straight and said in a very proper tone, "The case details."

Lu Ye's lips twitched as he put down the stinky tofu and fried noodles: "I brought these for you because of our friendship. I've seen firsthand how people can be heartless when it comes to women."

Smelling the stinky tofu that smelled both pungent and fragrant, and looking at the wet marks on Lu Ye's shoulder, Chen Zhenzhu gritted her teeth and said, "I'll bring you some shredded beef too."

"Shredded beef?!" Xiao Bai carried a large iron basin from the cafeteria, filled with sliced, juicy watermelon, and placed it on the coffee table. "Why are you excluding me? If you don't include me, I'll ask my godmother for some."

Chen Zhenzhu quickly said, "Here you go, we're like sisters, aren't we?"

Zhao Qiqi stood at the door, holding a large rice bowl, and said with a resentful look in her eyes, "Sister Pearl, do you favor girls over boys? I'm going to report Director Liu."

Chen Zhenzhu said dryly, "Stop, stop making a fuss. When has Sixth Sister ever not included you when she eats? Everyone gets a share, including Uncle Wu. See, I'm just being generous."

Gu Yanzheng couldn't help but laugh: "Yes, you're a respectable person."

Shen Zhenzhu couldn't help but stomp on the back of his foot.

After finishing his meal with Chen Zhenzhu, Gu Yanzheng nudged her foot under the coffee table, then casually left with his lunchbox.

When Shen Zhenzhu's gaze swept over them, Lu Ye, Zhao Qiqi, and Xiao Bai, who witnessed this scene, all looked up at the ceiling.

"Our office building is quite old, and it hasn't leaked at all."

"There was no water seepage."

"There's no moss growing either."

Shen Zhenzhu thought they were talking nonsense; there was also the logistics department upstairs. If the fourth team was leaking, then the logistics department would be flooded.

Gu Yanzheng asked her to rest after the meal. In about ten minutes, Shen Zhenzhu wandered around the office several times with a nail in her buttocks, and finally stood in front of the desk to continue flipping through the files.

"When it comes to solving cases, we work day and night." Tian Yongfeng said this while looking at Chen Zhenzhu, then went to his office, squatted down in front of the food cabinet, and picked up a bag of coffee.

"Make me a cup too," Chen Zhenzhu said without looking up.

Xiao Bai said, "I'll do it."

"Heh, come on, come on." Tian Yongfeng stirred his coffee and squatted down, moving to the side.

"Why are you working overtime?" Shen Zhenzhu asked, looking up.

Tian Yongfeng said, "I'm not worthy?"

Chen Zhenzhu said, "You're being too sensitive."

Tian Yongfeng scratched his head in frustration, looking like a bird's nest: "The gold shop on Shanyue Road was robbed, and more than 500 grams of gold were stolen. The amount involved is huge, but fortunately no one was injured."

Shen Zhenzhu said, "Robbery in this weather? Aren't you afraid of being struck by lightning?"

Tian Yongfeng said, "It's said that the suspect robbed the woman because he couldn't afford the three gold pieces she wanted. He was head over heels in love with her. I said, if he wanted to rob the three gold pieces, he should have robbed them. He even stole a whole pound of them in one go, haha."

Shen Zhenzhu said with a forced smile, "If he feels it's not right, he doesn't have to talk about it. Love is not an excuse for impulsiveness, and the woman is not a shield for his crimes. Using love to glorify crimes, a man who can't even uphold his emotions and bottom line, is better off being arrested sooner rather than later for the woman."

"That's absolutely right." Tian Yongfeng blew on his coffee, then hurriedly downed it in one gulp, burning his mouth. "Another murder case on your end?"

Shen Zhenzhu said, "Hmm. If a signboard can kill someone, it must be intentional."

Tian Yongfeng said helplessly, "No wonder... even the King of Hell has to pay you overtime. Fine, I'll go catch him right now. This bastard is no good."

Chen Zhenzhu grinned, showing her white teeth, and clenched her fist, saying, "Go for it!"

Tian Yongfeng picked up a piece of watermelon, held it up, and said, "Let's encourage each other."

The pearls were sketching golden dots on the paper, but due to the poor visibility, it was impossible to determine what they were.

10 PM.

Lu Ye took the portrait and placed it in front of Shen Zhenzhu, saying, "This guy has a pretty high nose bridge."

The young couple meticulously sketched the profile of the stranger, but the fleeting impression left them somewhat uneasy. The profile portrait, which they had spent considerable time creating, depicted an unremarkable middle-aged man.

“Middle-aged man, around forty years old. Wearing a sports cap, with thick eyebrows, a hooked nose, dark skin, thin lips, and a tight chin, he didn’t look very friendly. He was about 170 to 175 cm tall,” Lu Ye said. “He was wearing a plain short-sleeved white shirt, a brown or black belt, and light blue jeans. I couldn’t even see his shoes clearly.”

"Wait a minute." Chen Zhenzhu quickly flipped through the file on the "1992 train track signal light malfunction accident," pointing to Yang Ping, the only victim whose legs were crushed: "Yang Ping and Wang Jiali both said that they ran onto the tracks because of a signal light malfunction. Yang Ping also said that a man shouted at the scene. You see, the man she described was 'like someone from Xinjiang, with dark skin, a bit older, and naturally curly hair.' Could it be the same person?"

Xiao Bai said, "That's quite possible."

Shen Zhenzhu said, "Yang Ping is from this city, and I have her contact information. I'll call and ask. If I get in touch with her, I'll send the portrait to her for confirmation."

Shen Zhenzhu tried dialing the number, and to her surprise, it actually connected.

Yang Ping hadn't gone to work because of leg discomfort. She was doing handicrafts when she answered the phone. Knowing what Chen Zhenzhu meant, she said without hesitation, "I kept thinking back, and I always felt there was something wrong at that time. But where did the problem lie? The railway and the management department said it was caused by the duty personnel making a wrong signal, but I don't think it's that simple. I clearly remember that a man suddenly shouted, and the so-called 'lucky angel' next to me was a step behind me. As a result, my leg was broken, but she was unharmed. What a coincidence!"

Her tone was full of resentment, as if she wished she could crawl over along the phone line right now.

Chen Zhenzhu got up to go drive when the landline rang again.

"Sister Pearl, Liang Guijin has woken up."

......

Hospital.

"Ah—I can't live anymore, I can't go on living!"

A nurse passing by in the corridor frowned as she looked into the private room and said to the officer on duty, "She just came off the operating table and is still weak. What should we do if she's screaming and yelling because of a brain hemorrhage?"

They split into two groups: Xiaobai and Luye took the portrait artist to Yang Ping's house, while Chen Zhenzhu and Zhao Qiqi went to the hospital.

Shen Zhenzhu walked to the ward door, nearly smashing some medicine which splashed onto it. She took a step back and looked at Liang Guijin, who was on the verge of death: "Calm down. Our job now is to help you find the murderer."

Liang Guijin, his head wrapped up like a mummy, slumped on the hospital bed, pounding his thighs: "My right leg is immobile, I'm like a cripple now, what am I going to do for the rest of my life?"

Shen Zhenzhu said, "The doctor said you have a blood clot in your head that is compressing a nerve. You need a specialist consultation and craniotomy. Maybe you'll be fine after the craniotomy. Stop joking around. The other patients need to rest too."

As the anesthesia wore off, Liang Guijin trembled with pain all over his body. After struggling for a while, he no longer had the strength to curse the murderer and could only say sadly, "The doctor told me that the success rate is very, very low, and the hope is extremely slim."

Shen Zhenzhu said, "What were you thinking? Did you just want to end your suffering by dying, so that Wang Jiali and the murderer could both live in a world without you?"

Mentioning Wang Jiali made Liang Guijin even more upset. This tough guy cried like a child.

Perhaps the injury to his right forehead was affecting his facial nerves, making his expression contorted when he cried: "What would I do without her? I shouldn't have listened to her and gone out to talk in the pouring rain. What did an old woman know? I should have stayed home and not gone anywhere, and my mother wouldn't have died so tragically."

He suddenly looked up and exclaimed, "His brains are coming out right in front of me! Yes, his brains even splattered on my face! Oh my god!"

Shen Zhenzhu said, "Did she invite you out?"

Liang Guijin said, "It's her! If it weren't for her, my mother wouldn't have died, and I wouldn't be like this. She'll remember for the rest of her life... she'll never forget how badly she hurt me! Ahhh—I don't want to live anymore, let me die!"

The surgeon arrived and got medication from the nurse to sedate Liang Guijin.

After resting for about ten minutes, Liang Guijin lay weakly on the bed, muttering to himself, "I can't bear to see her. I promised to take care of her for the rest of my life, and now I'm like this. I'd rather be dead than be a burden to her. She's so kind; she'll definitely spend the rest of her life in pain. Waaah, I can't bear it, I can't bear it."

Seeing that he had calmed down a bit, Chen Zhenzhu took the opportunity to ask, "What did Wang Jiali tell you?"

Liang Guijin said, "She said my mother was making a scene and she was determined to divorce me. Neither of us wanted to."

Chen Zhenzhu asked, "Who decided the time and place?"

Liang Guijin said, "It's her. Because she works in a clothing store, her hours are irregular. She has time, but I don't even have time to change out of my work clothes, so I rush over."

Chen Zhenzhu said, "You haven't been home?"

Liang Guijin said, "What do you mean? I went directly from the factory and called my mother beforehand. It's all recorded."

Shen Zhenzhu said, "I'm not doubting you, but there are some details that need to be asked carefully. Who do you think did it?"

Liang Guijin's lips trembled as he covered his head with one hand, saying, "I know I'm petty, and not many people like me. But my wife is good at interpersonal relationships and handles neighborly relations very well. Except for my family, who have some issues with her, the other neighbors all like her. If we're talking about making enemies, we would never make enemies with outsiders—"

Shen Zhenzhu nodded slightly: "Then do you think it was done by someone close to you?"

Liang Guijin looked terrified, instinctively touching his face, and cried out, "It's too scary! My own mother died right in front of me. Please, catch the murderer and protect my wife. I was never good enough for her. It doesn't matter if I die, but I can't let anyone hurt her! People outside are lusting after her beauty, and there are people spying on her... What will happen to her if I die?"

"Hey, how did you guys get in?" Liang Congjun, who had eaten at home and taken a nap, rushed over.

When she saw Shen Zhenzhu and the other police officers in the ward, she cursed and said, "Get out of here! Can't you see how weak he is? Are you really going to drive my brother to his death? He's the victim!"

Shen Zhenzhu said, "Excuse me, I just wanted to ask a couple of questions." As she spoke, she stopped Zhao Qiqi, who was trying to stop her, and whispered, "Listen to what I'm saying."

Hearing footsteps in the corridor, Liang Congjun turned around and saw all his relatives rushing over. He hurriedly took out a hastily printed agreement, walked up to Liang Guijin, shoved a pen into her hand, and said, "An insurance company says that you and we are both insured. You should sign this quickly and change it so that I am the beneficiary."

Liang Guijin asked, "What kind of insurance?"

Second Aunt squeezed in, shoving Liang Congjun aside, and said, "Accident insurance. They'll compensate you whether you die or are disabled, it's a huge sum. Don't let that vicious woman benefit from our Liang family's wealth. Give us a share of the money, and we'll all take care of you."

Liang Guijin was furious, and said weakly, "I'm not dead yet!"

Liang Congjun squeezed to the bedside again and said, "We only agreed on this beforehand because she's not dead yet. We can't let that slut take the money and run off with another man, can we?"

"Go with whom? Which man?!" Liang Guijin was provoked and struggled to sit up, pulling out the needle from the back of her hand, a trickle of blood pumping from her vein.

"Oh dear, look at how excited you are."

“Gui’er, let your aunt take a look. I used to take care of you when you were little.”

Auntie San, Aunt Liu, and others also arrived at the door, pulling and tugging at each other to prevent them from entering.

The head nurse rushed in, grabbed a sterile cotton ball, and pressed it against Liang Guijin's injection site. She then shouted at the group of unruly relatives, "Shut up! I could hear you yelling from far away! I didn't let you in to cause trouble. If you cause any more trouble, get out!"

With the head nurse's shout, Liang Guijin's eyes rolled back and she fainted.

The doctor on duty came over and scolded everyone without a second thought. After they dispersed, Chen Zhenzhu walked to the end of the corridor, looked out the window at the pitch blackness, and pondered her relatives' words.

Liang Guijin begged to have the case solved, saying he was not good enough for Wang Jiali. Based on Shen Zhenzhu's first impression of them outside the Tie Si Police Station, they were indeed like a beautiful flower stuck in cow dung.

Liang Guijin had a protruding, uneven forehead and an ordinary, even ugly, appearance. His height and physique were unremarkable, revealing a subtle undercurrent of inferiority. His only notable asset was his father's position as workshop foreman, a role that his eldest sister had taken over.

What made Wang Jiali marry him?

Does she not care about her appearance because she's beautiful? There must be a lot of competition. What skills did Liang Guijin use to win Wang Jiali's heart?

Through conversations among relatives, the mother-in-law's insults, and Liang Guijin's subconscious, everyone felt that the beautiful Wang Jiali was unattainable. However, they didn't have a specific target in mind; it seemed more like they were venting their anger on Wang Jiali, as the whole family bullied her.

On the contrary, outsiders were friendly and easy-going towards Wang Jiali, and were even willing to lend a helping hand when Wang Jiali was suspected of murder.

And the roly-poly toy that appeared at just the right time was also amazing. Why did it happen to land right at Wang Jiali's feet and get picked up by her? Was it really just luck?

"Comrade, I have something to ask you." Liang Congjun, as the older sister, stayed behind. She smiled ingratiatingly, but because she always had a stern face, there were two vertical lines between her eyebrows.

"Go ahead and say it." Chen Zhenzhu walked into the fire escape.

Liang Congjun was considered one of the better-looking members of the Liang family, probably because he mostly set up his stall in the evening, which gave him relatively fair skin. However, he had poor posture: his neck was hunched forward, his limbs were thin, his belly was protruding, and his eyes betrayed a calculating nature.

“Look at the terrible things that have happened to my family. My mother is gone, and my brother’s surgery is not going to be successful. They still live in a house. If they both die, will our family be able to get the house first? I also have a daughter, so I have someone to carry on the family line.”

Shen Zhenzhu said, "Whether you have descendants or not has nothing to do with the house."

Liang Congjun raised his voice, but seeing that Shen Zhenzhu was not easy to approach, he lowered his voice and said, "You mean, Wang Jiali can get the house?"

Shen Zhenzhu didn't say it to her directly, but raised an eyebrow at her: "Hoping your brother dies?"

Liang Congjun forced a smile and said, "How could that be? I hope my brother lives to be a hundred years old. Besides, my mother is still lying there with you. If I thought like that, I'd surely make her rise from the dead. By the way, what about that old lady's money—"

Shen Zhenzhu said, "I am not an estate lawyer. You should ask someone else if you have any questions."

Liang Congjun glared at Chen Zhenzhu, took a step forward, and said, "I'll give you 20%."

Shen Zhenzhu said coldly, "Are you trying to bribe me?"

Liang Congjun was taken aback, then quickly said, "Never mind, forget I said anything. I'm leaving."

She hurried down the corridor, muttering, "So young, yet so stubborn."

Shen Zhenzhu entered the ward but didn't see Liang Congjun. Liang Guijin was still on an IV drip, so Shen Zhenzhu simply lay down on the bed next to him and took a nap.

The thunder and lightning continued all night, and when the first ray of light shone on Shen Zhenzhu's face at dawn, she suddenly opened her eyes.

Liang Guijin was hanging a bed sheet on the roof beam, pretending to hang himself.

Two minutes later, Liang Guijin lay on the bed with his hands and feet bound, weakly saying, "You're going to smash my jaw off... I'll let it hurt to death."

Chen Zhenzhu shook her hand and said without any regret, "The situation was urgent, and I've already held back."

Xiao Bai, who rushed over in the morning, saw the farce unfold and shoved toiletries and a large bag of vegetables into Chen Zhenzhu's hands, saying sarcastically, "You're already thinking about dying, why would you care about your chin?"

Liang Guijin stared at the ceiling and remained silent.

After washing up, Chen Zhenzhu ate a large vegetable bun while looking at the portrait that Xiaobai had brought her.

Based on the profiles of the young couple, Yang Ping drew the full frontal faces, even showing the scar on the stranger's chin.

Chen Zhenzhu said, "Ask him if he has seen it before."

Xiao Bai walked up to Liang Guijin and waved the portrait: "Have you seen it before?"

Liang Guijin felt dizzy and coughed a few times, saying, "Bring it closer, I can't see clearly."

Xiao Bai was brought over, and Liang Guijin squinted at it for a long time before shouting, "It's him! I'm the one who injured his chin!"

After Liang Guijin finished speaking, he coughed a few times and then vomited a pool of blood on the ground.

"Doctor! Doctor!" Shen Zhenzhu nearly choked as she shouted towards the nurses' station, "The patient is vomiting blood!"

The on-duty doctor, looking haggard, hurried over and asked, "Is she unconscious?"

Chen Zhenzhu said, "No."

The on-duty doctor entered the ward and saw Liang Guijin staring intently at the portrait, looking even more energetic than yesterday. After a brief examination, he turned to Shen Zhenzhu and said, "It might be a blood clot. We'll take another X-ray later to check. There's nothing seriously wrong for now. His condition is quite serious, and we'll have a specialist consultation today."

"Thank you." Chen Zhenzhu breathed a sigh of relief. After the doctor left, she asked Liang Guijin, "Who is this person?"

Liang Guijin insisted on speaking slowly: "I just suspect that this guy is following my wife. He's a businessman, I think his name is... Hu Yuanchao. Yes, Hu Yuanchao. I even fought with him and got detained."

Shen Zhenzhu asked, "Why are we fighting?"

Liang Guijin said, "He was trying to win my wife's favor, wanting to become the other woman!"

Shen Zhenzhu asked, "How did you find out?"

Liang Guijin said evasively, "I knew him before, but he kept harassing my wife! I thought he left, but I never imagined he'd been spying on me all these years. Officers, arrest him! He's definitely the one who framed me!!"

Chen Zhenzhu asked, "Where does he work?"

Liang Guijin said, "I don't know about that. He seemed quite wealthy. He even gave my wife a gold necklace and told me to throw it in his face."

Shen Zhenzhu asked, "Where did the fight take place? Who resolved the dispute?"

Liang Guijin said, "About five or six years ago, at the Gunianghe Police Station."

Shen Zhenzhu said to Xiaobai, "Xiaobai, you and Brother Aqi go and check the records. Once you find them, ask Hu Yuanchao to come over."

Xiao Bai stood at attention and said, "Yes, Sister Pearl."

Liang Guijin coughed again in his hospital bed. Shen Zhenzhu untied one of his hands, and he coughed a few times while covering his mouth, saying, "It's still better to be an official. With just a word, you can make your subordinates run themselves ragged."

Chen Zhenzhu said with a half-smile, "It can also provide relatives with jobs and housing."

Liang Guijin laughed, his chin hurting a little. He grimaced and said, "I don't think I'm going to get better. I might as well die. It's a pity my wife is so beautiful. I wonder who will get her."

Shen Zhenzhu frowned and said, "She is a mature adult, not anyone's appendage. Are you suggesting we erect a monument to her chastity?"

“Back then, my mother said my wife looked like she would bring bad luck to her husband, but I didn’t believe it.” Liang Guijin was too weak to speak coherently, and said in a barely audible voice, “Her birth chart is really strong.”

Shen Zhenzhu said, "What do you mean by that?"

Liang Guijin seemed to wake up suddenly, opening his eyes wide and asking, "What did I say?"

Shen Zhenzhu said, "They say your wife is a jinx to her husband."

Liang Guijin said, "Sigh."

Chen Zhenzhu said, "You think so too?"

Liang Guijin said, "That's not true. I love her too much. I would rather die for her."

As he said this, Liang Guijin smiled, his eyes sacred and pure: "Thank goodness she's alright, really, it scared me to death. If I died, and another man had her, I would go crazy."

Shen Zhenzhu said, "Don't you feel that your words are contradictory?"

Liang Guijin said, "Maybe he has Alzheimer's." After saying that, he laughed to himself.

The two spent the entire morning in silence in the ward. At noon, the nurse replaced Liang Guijin's IV drip with a nutritional supplement.

Shen Zhenzhu ate a bland patient meal at the inpatient cafeteria.

What I said to Liang Congjun yesterday had an effect; he now knows that the inheritance rights are in Wang Jiali's hands, and none of the miscellaneous relatives came to bother him today.

Ring ring,

Ring ring.

The cell phone rang, and Chen Zhenzhu answered it.

Xiao Bai said on the phone, "We found Hu Yuanchao. He said he's willing to cooperate, but he needs to meet Liang Guijin first."

"Let him come over."

"yes."

Half an hour later, Xiaobai and Zhao Qiqi brought Hu Yuanchao, who had curly hair, to the ward.

Liang Guijin refocused his eyes and looked at Hu Yuanchao, saying, "It really is you. Are you happy? Now that I'm dead, can you marry her?"

Hu Yuanchao nodded and said with a smile, "You've used up all your good luck by marrying her."

Liang Guijin clutched her chest, panting, and said, "And what about you? At least I... had her, but you! You could only secretly watch, like a dog, drooling with envy but unable to have her."

Hu Yuanchao dusted off the collar of his designer shirt and said defiantly, "Don't insult my feelings for Wang Jiali. I've never hidden my admiration for her, but it's definitely not as dirty as you say. Our relationship is completely pure."

Liang Guijin wanted to laugh out loud, but unexpectedly vomited another mouthful of blood.

Chen Zhenzhu said, "Should we call a doctor?"

Liang Guijin said, "Let's finish what we have to say. Thank you. If we don't say it now, we'll never have another chance."

Shen Zhenzhu walked to the door, signaling to Xiaobai to call the doctor to prepare. It seemed Liang Guijin might be driven to her death by Hu Yuanchao.

Hu Yuanchao said politely to Shen Zhenzhu, "Comrade, we'll finish our conversation soon, since we don't have much in common."

Liang Guijin struggled to sit up, pointed at Hu Yuanchao and said, "You're lusting after someone else's wife, yet you put on this hypocritical act. Even if I die, I won't let you have her!"

Hu Yuanchao, enjoying Liang Guijin's hysteria, took a deep breath and said in a good mood, "Stop pretending, none of us are clean."
