In the basement of a residential house, the only sound was tense breathing. No one spoke, and you could tell how tense everyone was just by listening.
The sounds of bombing and gunfire had stopped for a while, and no one dared to go out, wondering if the fighting outside had ceased.
The blinding light caused those who had just adjusted to the darkness to raise their hands and cover their eyes.
The momentary flash of light made everyone forget their fear, but once they adjusted to the light, even the bravest among them dared not step forward.
Everyone came here to help others. The salary here is higher than in China, and there are elderly people and young children waiting for them at home. No one wants to be the first to go out and be the first to step forward.
Above everyone stood several fully armed men, who remained silent, staring at each other for several minutes. Just when everyone was about to give up, a familiar face emerged from behind one of them.
"Director? Captain?"
One of them exclaimed.
What's going on here?
"Everyone come out! Someone's coming to rescue us."
The crowd cheered quietly; no one dared to shout out loud at a time like this.
Once the first one was pulled out, the others followed suit.
Chu Xingyue pushed through the crowd, her eyes, hidden behind a mask, revealing that this small basement was crammed with so many people.
"Mr. Zhao, are all your people here?"
Wei Haiyang looked at Zhao Li, who was standing to the side comforting his companion.
"Everyone is here. We came to inspect first, so there aren't many people here."
After finishing the phone call, Gu Yanci came in from outside and whispered a few words in Chu Xingyue's ear. Chu Xingyue nodded.
Chu Xingyue waved to Wei Haiyang.
"Tell them that their safety is in our hands from now on, but don't be polite if anyone is uncooperative."
"yes"
Wei Haiyang went to negotiate with Zhao Li. Zhao Li knew that they could go home now, and to ensure their safety, they had to follow their arrangements.
Zhao Li turned around and started to talk to the people he had brought with him.
Those who were rescued cannot possibly have any objections now; it would be a joke if anyone did.
Soon, the team members divided up their tasks, with each person taking on one member.
Soon, people began to emerge from one of the walls of the town.
In this small town, some bolder people began to quietly venture out to observe the situation.
Gu Yanci's men met them on their way to the raid. The journey wasn't very safe, and if it weren't for the markings on their vehicles, they would probably all have been wiped out.
The signs on the vehicle allowed it to pass smoothly through the rebel territory, indicating that they had been notified of what was happening in the town long ago.
Chu Xingyue knew Gu Yanci's secret identity, but the others did not. Some were curious, while others didn't care at all; they were only concerned about whether they could get home safely.
After driving for more than ten hours, the convoy finally stopped at a small airport. Everyone was put on a plane, including Chu Xingyue and her team, who all went up to the second floor of the plane.
Aside from Chu Xingyue's team, who were able to sleep peacefully on the plane, Zhao Li and his companions dared not sleep, as the flight was quite long.
Everyone drifted off to sleep, the day's tension ultimately unable to overcome their exhaustion.
This plane was brought in by Gu Yanci; it was the chief's private jet.
When the chief received Gu Yanci's call, he quickly apologized, saying that they had no choice but to help them. The only thing they could do now was to give them their plane to take them back. The flight route was specially applied for by the chief, otherwise the flight would not have been allowed at all.
The chief himself doesn't know why his insignificant town was robbed, which is very puzzling, but he expressed his strong desire to establish more friendly diplomatic relations with China.
Gu Yanci and Chu Xingyue had communicated before boarding the plane. There must be something they didn't know, otherwise they wouldn't have been targeted by the three forces.
Gu Yanci immediately made a few phone calls, instructing them to hold back and observe what changes occurred after they left, or whether any other faction besides the chieftain would take over the area.
Chu Xingyue had an idea in her mind, but she wasn't sure if it was true. She made several assumptions in her mind and had a general idea of what was going on.
The captain's voice came from the plane. The language skills of the few people who were able to go abroad were all up to par. The sudden announcement woke everyone up from their sleep. As they listened to what they could understand, even Zhao Li and Li Jian, who had experienced a lot, were moved to tears.
No one knew the despair they were in at the time. What they thought would be an extraordinary expedition had almost cost them their lives. There were even sniffling sounds in the cabin, indicating that someone had been crying, but no sound came out. These were tears of joy.
As the plane landed, Chu Xingyue led her team off the plane first, while Zhao Li and the others were almost startled by the scene before them when they got off.
A banner at the airport read, "Welcome Home."
"husband"
"dad"
"son"
One by one, figures rushed over and embraced the person who had been living in fear for dozens of hours.
Looking at the figures before them, everyone realized that they were now standing on Chinese soil. They had finally returned, and had finally returned safely.
When Zhao Li and the others turned around to greet Chu Xingyue and the others, all they saw were the rear ends of several military vehicles driving away.
As soon as the group got into the car, they pulled off their masks, revealing resolute faces that startled even the soldiers who had driven them there. Their menacing aura was terrifying.
Gu Yanci was picked up by Li Si, who had been waiting for him at the airport.
Kyoto Military Region
Everyone who got off the bus rushed to their dorms immediately. They hadn't had a hot shower in so many days, and today they had to scrub off a whole basin of dirt.
After getting ready, it's time to go to sleep.
Chu Xingyue didn't sleep. After taking a shower, she quickly finished writing the report on the rescue mission and headed straight for Chu Gengli's office.
"I'm back."
"Yes, I have fulfilled my mission."
The uncle and nephew exchanged a few words and smiled at each other.
"Go back and rest early. Once you're rested, we'll go back and have dinner together. Your grandparents have been talking about you so many times, and even your great-grandparents have called me several times."
"Okay, I'll take Jiaojiao with me later and we'll go straight home. Uncle, see you when we get back."
"Go ahead, be careful on your way back. Qingzhi will drive you back."
"knew."
At this time, Chu Gengli was just an ordinary parent, and Chu Xingyue was just an ordinary little girl.
After leaving the house, Chu Xingyue walked towards Chu Qingzhi's office.
"Brother, do you have time to give us a ride?"
Seeing her younger sister whom she hadn't seen in a long time, Chu Qingzhi, who was engrossed in her work, suddenly broke into a happy smile. Her sisters were back.
"It would be my great honor"
The two chatted as they talked, and even though they hadn't seen each other for so long, neither of them felt uncomfortable at all.
"elder brother"
A voice interrupted the two people who were talking.
Do you miss me?
"Haha, you little rascal, you've been gone for so long and you're still as shameless as ever."
"I'm not as shameless as you. Look at you, you see the girls but don't you even take them out for a nice meal?"
"I wanted to take you out to eat, but I have plans today. I've made plans with your sister-in-law."
Chu Jiaojiao couldn't bear to look at his smug expression.
"I don't know how my sister-in-law ever fell for you. How could someone like you find someone as good as my sister-in-law? Is my little niece going home today?"
"Knowing you were coming home today, I already spoke with your sister-in-law. She's already taken Mianmian to the old house."
Thinking of his wife and daughter, Chu Qingzhi's face was full of tenderness, and even his eyes crinkled with laughter.
Is Mianmian coming back today too?
"Hmm, Mianmian was so happy to know that her two aunts were coming back. She kept asking about you two on the phone, and she didn't even care about me, her father. I don't know how you two managed to win her over, especially An'an. You don't even see her as often as Jiaojiao, so why does she talk about you every day?"
"That's right. Don't you know who I am? I don't know how many people like me, but no one dislikes my sister."
"Yes, yes, you can't say a bad word about your sister."
Chu Qingzhi laughed.
