Chapter 272 Like a Domesticated Animal

"We should be careful on our way back and try to avoid this area. Just because we were safe just now doesn't mean we'll be safe on our way back."

Chu Xingyue instructed the group, and they were all still shaken. It wasn't that they couldn't defeat the black bear in numbers, but rather that they hadn't figured out what other dangers were lurking around. If they had killed the bear, or if it had escaped, they dared not even think about what might have happened.

Chu Xingyue looked at everyone's expressions and knew what they were thinking, but she didn't say anything.

"Ugh, ugh, ugh," came a series of sounds, which sounded a bit like the cries of some kind of animal.

Chu Xingyue raised her hand, signaling everyone to stop.

With a few hand gestures, everyone became hidden.

It flew in an arc and landed directly on Chu Xingyue's arm. While it was in mid-air, Chu Xingyue realized it was a wolf cub, otherwise it would have been killed before it even reached her.

"Hmm," Chu Xingyue looked at the wolf cub in her arms with cold eyes. It was about the size of a puppy and its body was covered in wounds. Its soft fur was matted together. Its wolf eyes looked at Chu Xingyue curiously. The warmth of Chu Xingyue's body made the wolf cub stretch its head and move closer to her.

A light thud sounded not far away, and everyone's eyes were drawn to an animal that looked like a cat, but was much larger than a cat.

"Is that a lynx?"

It has two tufts of fur standing up on its pointed ears, and its body is covered with patterns like a leopard. It walks with an elegant cat-like gait.

Chu Xingyue squinted at what appeared to be a cave not far away, and wondered if the little wolf in her hand had been carried out of that cave.

Why didn't they eat them directly, but instead played with the wolf cubs like toys?

The curious group realized that they couldn't approach the situation with conventional thinking because of the place they were in.

It seems this isn't the first time this lynx has done this. Lynxes are hunters that maximize their fighting abilities. They possess a keen sense of smell and hearing, allowing them to locate prey by scent and hear the movements of prey dozens of meters away.

Chu Xingyue and her group were already within the lynx's field of vision.

"Although this thing is a feline, it is much stronger than a cat."

Wei Haiyang whispered to Fu Jingcheng beside him.

“Normal-sized lynxes can hunt prey larger than themselves, and this one is even larger. Besides, they are agile and cunning.”

The two were discussing in hushed tones, and the rest of the team, who all had excellent hearing, overheard their conversation.

"Don't worry, these things are different from other animals. They are all solitary creatures. If they were gregarious, there would definitely not be enough for them to share."

Since we're already all exposed to this thing, let's just say what we have to say.

I just don't know if this group of people will even catch the eye of this lynx.

While everyone was still thinking, they noticed that the lynx had leaped onto a large tree. Its vertical pupils stared at Chu Xingyue and the others. Those feline eyes made them feel like its slaves and its master.

This made the few people who discovered this exclaim that it was a ghost.

"Prepare for battle; it looks like it has our eyes on us."

After Chu Xingyue finished speaking, everyone entered battle mode.

The lynx leaped from the tree in front of them to a tree nearby. Before its outstretched claws could even touch Lu Zehua's shoulder, it was shot in the palm. The specially designed gun was more than capable of hitting this larger lynx.

The lynx that had been hit quickly retracted its hand, which was torn and bleeding from the bullet. Looking at the broken xun and its bloodied hand, the lynx bared its blood-stained teeth at Chu Jiaojiao, who had injured it.

It looks like it just had a big meal. No wonder it was playing with the wolf cubs like toys; it wasn't hungry anymore.

Enraged that something it had disregarded had injured it, the lynx was furious. Its claws were crucial for climbing trees, and now its most important front claws were injured. The enraged lynx launched a second attack. As it leaped from the tree it was standing on to another tree, it was immediately met with simultaneous gunfire from several people who were already prepared.

The belly is the weakest point, and now it was hit at the same time, and it exploded at the same time. The lynx, which hadn't even jumped to another tree, fell to the ground in pain.

Blood began to flow from the ground on parts of the body, and large amounts of blood began to spread.

No one stepped forward. The lynx, its breathing becoming heavier, shot icy glances at the few people in its field of vision, its eyes filled with a desire to devour them right now.

"Let's go, take the little wolf back."

"Sis, let me hug you."

"I've only ever seen white wolves on TV, this little wolf is so cute."

Chu Xingyue placed the wolf cub on Chu Jiaojiao's arm, then led the group toward the discovered cave.

In front of the cave, the rest of the team stood guard outside. Chu Xingyue led Gu Yanci and Chu Jiaojiao into the cave, which was probably where the wolf pack was resting.

The cave smelled terrible. Judging from the bloodstains everywhere, it must have been the work of that lynx. I wonder how many wolf cubs there used to be here; now only this one remains.

I wonder what the wolves will think when they return from hunting and find their cubs eaten by that lynx. Let the lynx, which isn't completely dead yet, be dealt with by the returning wolves. Hopefully, they won't hold it against these strangers for trespassing on their territory, and won't hunt them down after they saved the last remaining wolf cub.

Chu Jiaojiao put the wolf cub down and patted its head.

"Stay here and be safe. We can't take you away from your mom and dad. We probably won't see you again in this life. Grow up quickly and safely, and be as amazing as your mom and dad."

Exhausted and covered in wounds from being played with by the lynx, the wolf cub licked Chu Jiaojiao's hand with its tongue. This action was just like a pet dog sticking to its owner, instantly softening the hearts of those who saw it.

Chu Xingyue rubbed the wolf cub's head, reached into her bag and took out a medicine bottle, uncorked it, and sprinkled some on the wolf cub's wounds. She also pried open the wolf cub's mouth and poured some inside. The wolf cub was very obedient and did not struggle at all.

Logically speaking, wild wolf cubs like this should be in some danger, but this wolf cub's eyes were wet, just like those of military dogs in the army, and its eyes were full of trust.

Chu Xingyue put away the medicine bottle, clapped her hands, and stood up.

Looking at the wolf cub with tender eyes,

"We're leaving."

The wolf cub lying in the cave watched with bright eyes as the group of people gradually left the cave.

This little episode was just a small part of the group's survival process. The departing group didn't even glance at the lynx lying on the ground behind them, waiting for death to call.

The group spent several more days in the extremely dangerous rainforest. Now, even at night, the three of them take turns on watch. Unknown dangers lurk all around them, so everyone remains vigilant even when they are asleep, keeping their weapons close at hand and making the most of their rest time.

Along the way, under Chu Xingyue's deliberate guidance, everyone became more and more capable of handling things independently. Surviving in such a dangerous rainforest would be a lifelong asset for them and an undeniable highlight in their future careers.

They must be getting closer and closer to the deepest part of the rainforest.

Chu Xingyue actually found it a bit strange, as there were several people she hadn't encountered along the way, especially those with high intelligence.

Chu Xingyue was now leading the way, followed by Gu Yanci, with Chu Jiaojiao and Yang Run bringing up the rear.

Looking at the place in front of them, filled with birdsong and fragrant flowers, the group stared at everything in disbelief. It was more idyllic than any paradise they had ever seen or known.

They saw several animals resting by the pool, each a link in their own food chain, but what did they see? Why were their young able to play together, and why were mothers of different species feeding their young?

Where did this survival of the fittest go wrong? It's so contrary to the laws of nature!

The arrival of Chu Xingyue and her group caused several giant beasts that were resting on a large rock not far away to stand up.
