Chapter 115 Opening a Shop

The mid-August sun scorched the earth as Ye Xiaoxiao and Li Chenyang busied themselves preparing their new shop. After two months of renovations, the 50-square-meter storefront was finally taking shape.

"Put the counter over here, and the TV in front." Ye Xiaoxiao wiped the sweat from her forehead and directed Li Chenyang to move the furniture.

The new store's walls were painted beige, and the floor was covered with brand-new tiles. Glass display cases filled the walls, with a large counter in the center.

"Honey, we have to be careful moving this TV, it's very expensive." Li Chenyang carried a 24-inch Changhong color TV, walking with extreme care.

They managed to get this batch of goods from several manufacturers. The deposit alone was over ten thousand yuan.

"Dad, this looks nice." Li Zhonghao pointed to a small radio in the display case.

"That's a Walkman. I'll get you one when you do well on your exams." Ye Xiaoxiao patted her son's head.

Three-year-old Li Xinyue was playing with her toys nearby, showing little interest in these novel electrical appliances.

The residents of Xingfu Community are all new residents. They are mostly from villages who have recently moved to the city. Generally, their children have achieved success in their careers and have been assigned to work in this area, so they specifically bought new houses here.

I heard a new appliance store opened!

"That's right, it was just renovated."

"Let's go take a look."

A murmur of conversation came from the doorway, and several middle-aged women from the neighborhood peeked inside.

"Please come in, please come in," Ye Xiaoxiao quickly greeted.

"Wow, this shop is nicely decorated." An older woman looked around and nodded repeatedly.

"Is this a color TV? You can see colorful pictures?" Another older woman curiously examined the television in the display case.

"Yes, this is the latest Changhong color TV, the picture quality is exceptionally good," Ye Xiaoxiao introduced. "If you're interested, I can turn it on and show you the effect."

"That's great!" Several middle-aged women's eyes lit up.

Li Chenyang quickly turned on the power and adjusted the picture. The television immediately displayed vibrant colors, playing a rerun of "Journey to the West".

"Wow, it's so beautiful!" The older women exclaimed in amazement as they gathered around the television. "Sun Wukong's golden cudgel is so shiny!"

"How much does this color TV cost?" someone asked.

"2300 for a 29-inch, 1800 for a 25-inch, and 1500 for a 21-inch," Ye Xiaoxiao quoted the prices.

"This is way too expensive!" The older women gasped.

"It's a bit expensive now, but it will definitely become more common in a few years."

Just then, a well-dressed middle-aged man walked into the store with a woman and a child.

"Comrade, I'd like to buy a color TV. Could you recommend one to me?"

Ye Xiaoxiao's eyes lit up; this was her first sale.

"Sir, this is our latest Changhong color TV, a 25-inch large screen with an imported picture tube, and the picture quality is crystal clear..."

Ye Xiaoxiao patiently explained the product's performance, price, and warranty policy.

This customer was Section Chief Chen from a factory in the city. He was very knowledgeable about electrical appliances and asked many professional questions.

"I think this one is good, let's take this one." Section Chief Chen finally made the decision.

"Okay, I'll issue you the invoice." Ye Xiaoxiao breathed a sigh of relief.

After completing all the formalities—issuing invoices, collecting money, affixing warranty labels, and getting the customer's address—Li Chenyang prepared to find a vehicle to deliver the goods to their door.

"Don't worry, feel free to contact us anytime if you have any questions." Ye Xiaoxiao handed over her business card.

After seeing off their first customer, Ye Xiaoxiao and Li Chenyang exchanged a smile. Selling the most expensive color TV on their very first sale was a good omen.

"Honey, your explanation was really professional." Li Chenyang gave a thumbs up.

"That's right, I've done a lot of research," Ye Xiaoxiao said proudly. "Now that we're running a business, we need to act like it's proper. You'll have to learn from that."

At this moment, a few more people walked in, pointed at the washing machine, and asked about the price.

"This single-tub washing machine is 320 yuan, it can only wash. We also have twin-tub washing machines over here, 789 yuan, one side washes and the other side spins dry," Ye Xiaoxiao explained.

"Can you make it cheaper?" the customer bargained.

Ye Xiaoxiao said awkwardly, "I'm really sorry, but we always have clearly marked prices and we're honest with everyone. And this is already the lowest price we can offer."

The customers looked around again and felt that it was indeed cheaper than other places, so they bought a twin-cylinder one on the spot.

On the first day of opening, a number of customers came one after another. Although most of them were just there to watch the excitement, a few items were sold.

"Today's income is pretty good." When settling the bill in the evening, Ye Xiaoxiao counted the money with a happy smile.

"Yes, we made over 300 yuan just from the color TV." Li Chenyang was also happy.

However, minor problems are inevitable in business. A customer bought a radio but wanted to return it because the sound quality was bad. After checking, Ye Xiaoxiao found that the batteries were installed backwards. She taught the customer how to use it, thus resolving the dispute.

Some customers complained that the down payment for installment payments was too high, so Ye Xiaoxiao patiently explained the policy regulations, and they finally reached an agreement.

"Doing business is really not easy," Ye Xiaoxiao sighed. "You have to master product knowledge and know how to deal with customers."

"Take it slow, we'll learn as we go," Li Chenyang comforted him.

Ye Xiaoxiao nodded, took out her notebook, and wrote down today's lessons learned:

"By the way, we're getting new stock tomorrow, we need to find someone to help with moving it." Li Chenyang felt that the two of them really couldn't handle this kind of business.

"I think we should hire two workers. See if there are any young men around your hometown, and hire a couple. Pay them 200 yuan a month. You have a driver's license, right?" Ye Xiaoxiao thought about how she had him get his driver's license a couple of years ago. She was thinking that they would buy a car in the future, and he would be able to drive.
