Chapter 90 Purchasing Goods

Lin Ping and Li Chenyang have been busy these past few days and have finally finished tidying up the convenience store.

After tidying up, Ye Xiaoxiao calculated Lin Ping's wages and asked Li Chenyang to help return the tools to Lin Ping.

Ye Xiaoxiao looked at the brand-new storefront and felt very happy.

Now we can start ordering the goods. Just as I was thinking this, a system notification sounded:

[Complete the task of decorating Li Chenyang's convenience store and you will be rewarded with a box of each of ten different snacks.]

"That's good news. The first batch of goods is ready."

Ye Xiaoxiao thought happily, but snacks alone wouldn't do; the convenience store couldn't just sell these things. She needed to go to the county town to get a batch of goods.

Thinking of this, she discussed with Li Chenyang, "Let's go to the county town to buy goods tomorrow; we need to check out the supply and marketing cooperative."

"Huh? Going to the supply and marketing cooperative?" Li Chenyang hesitated upon hearing this.

If other people are selling their goods well, and we go to buy them, will they definitely supply us?

Ye Xiaoxiao glared at him: "Why are you always thinking it won't work? How will you know it won't work if you don't try?"

The next morning, Ye Xiaoxiao took the child to her mother-in-law's: "Mom, Chenyang and I are going to the county town today, so we'll have to trouble you with the child."

Liu Juan wanted to ask where she was going, but before she could speak, Ye Xiaoxiao got on her family's bicycle and left.

The two men each rode a bicycle and carried two tattered snake bags.

Ye Xiaoxiao and Li Chenyang arrived at the county's state-owned wholesale department. They were immediately struck by its grandeur upon entering – cement floors, bright glass counters, and sales clerks in blue uniforms bustling about.

Mustering her courage, Ye Xiaoxiao walked to the counter and asked, "Comrade, I'd like to ask, do you wholesale goods here?"

The sales clerk glanced at her, then lowered his head again to continue writing: "We only supply to organizations; we don't do wholesale to individuals."

After saying that, he ignored everyone.

Ye Xiaoxiao persisted, "Comrade, we're thinking of opening a small shop in the village and need to stock up on some goods..."

"I already said we don't do wholesale to individuals, don't you understand?" the salesperson interrupted her impatiently.

Li Chenyang whispered from the side, "Honey, let's just forget about it..."

"What do you mean, 'calculate'!" Ye Xiaoxiao glared at him, then turned to the sales clerk.

Comrade, could you please ask your supervisor for us? We genuinely want to do business.

The sales clerk looked up impatiently:

"How can you be so tactless? I said no, and that's final. Besides, what do you, a country woman, know about business..."

Just then, a middle-aged man came out of the inner room. Someone nearby whispered, "Director Zhang is here."

Ye Xiaoxiao's eyes lit up, and she quickly went to greet him: "Director Zhang, hello."

We're from Yangshu Village and we'd like to open a small shop there. We've come specifically to buy supplies. Do you think it's possible for us to...?

Director Zhang stopped and looked Ye Xiaoxiao up and down: "You said you want to open a small shop?"

"Yes," Ye Xiaoxiao quickly replied, "Now that we've implemented reform and opening up, we in the countryside also want to start some businesses to make it easier for everyone to buy things."

Just then, a familiar voice suddenly came: "Hey, Yangzi, what's going on between you and your wife...?"

Ye Xiaoxiao looked and saw it was Wang Jianguo, the son of Grandpa Wang from the village. He worked as an accountant at the supply and marketing cooperative.

"Uncle Jianguo!" Ye Xiaoxiao's eyes lit up.

Wang Jianguo smiled and said to Director Zhang, "Director Zhang, this is someone from our village. They're honest and hardworking. If their family opened a small shop, they'd definitely do a great job."

Director Zhang pondered for a moment: "How about this, tell me what kind of goods you plan to stock?"

Ye Xiaoxiao was prepared and immediately took out a notebook from her bag:

"Director, look, I've made a list. Matches, soap, toothpaste, and other daily necessities are essential."

There were also candies, biscuits, melon seeds, and peanuts. These were mainly to meet the daily needs of the villagers.

Director Zhang took the notebook, glanced at it, and then asked, "How much stock are you planning to order?"

"This is our first time, so let's try a small amount first," Ye Xiaoxiao said. "I brought two hundred yuan with me."

"Two hundred yuan..."

After a moment's thought, Director Zhang looked at Ye Xiaoxiao's sincere expression and nodded.

"Alright, let's give it a try. But payment must be made on delivery, cash on delivery."

Two hundred yuan these days can really buy several thousand yuan worth of goods; many things sell for just a few cents when sold retail. Wholesale is even cheaper.

Ye Xiaoxiao nodded repeatedly, "Of course, of course."

Director Zhang turned to the rude sales clerk and said, "Give them a receipt."

The sales clerk's face flushed red, and she reluctantly began writing out the order form.

Taking the opportunity, Ye Xiaoxiao added, "Director Zhang, do you think we could have a long-term partnership? I guarantee I'll settle the payment on time."

Director Zhang smiled and said, "Why don't you sell this batch of goods first? If it goes well, we can discuss the rest later."

By the time all the formalities were completed and the goods were loaded, it was already afternoon.

Ye Xiaoxiao and Li Chenyang's bicycles were packed full.

The front of the truck was completely full. Looking at the goods on the truck, both men were somewhat excited.

"Wife, you're really something," Li Chenyang said sincerely.

Ye Xiaoxiao rolled her eyes at him: "All you know is how to say no. If we listened to you, wouldn't this trip have been a waste?"

Back in the village, the news somehow spread. The villagers all came to see what was going on, and there was much discussion.

"Li Chenyang's family is about to become rich."

"You bet! Look at that storefront, it looks like a supply and marketing cooperative."

Ye Xiaoxiao ignored them and focused on arranging the goods on the shelves one by one. Matches, soap, and toothpaste were placed in prominent positions. Candy and biscuits had a separate counter.
