The child was crying loudly between the two of them, while Li Chenyang was sleeping like a log.
Ye Xiaoxiao also felt a swelling in her chest, so she sat up again, wanting to breastfeed her child.
But as soon as they opened the swaddle, they felt that the child had urinated or defecated. A strong smell immediately wafted out.
Ye Xiaoxiao slapped Li Chenyang's butt.
"Get up, get up quickly."
"What's wrong?" Li Chenyang was woken up and slowly came to his senses after hearing the child crying.
"Bring a diaper to change the baby."
Li Chenyang was quite familiar with this.
I quickly changed the baby's diaper and wrapped him up. Only then did the baby stop crying.
"Wow, how come you're so skilled at this?" Ye Xiaoxiao said as she breastfed the baby.
“I’ve taken care of my younger siblings before. I’ve done all of that.”
Li Chenyang watched his son nursing so happily, so he got out of bed to prepare some brown sugar, egg, and millet porridge for his wife.
He used to cook when his mother was in postpartum confinement and his father wasn't home. He could cook simple meals.
"[System, look, this man can do everything. His mother said that a grown man shouldn't go into the kitchen. It turns out that it was okay when he was making postpartum meals for her, but now that he's making them for his wife, his mother is the one who's unhappy.]" Ye Xiaoxiao complained to the system.
Humans are so complex.
Ye Xiaoxiao is currently in her postpartum period, and the weather is still quite hot.
The mother-in-law stayed home to cook and take care of her and the child, while Li Chenyang, her father-in-law, and her brother-in-law went to the fields to weed.
The biggest problem with her mother-in-law at home is that, even in this hot weather, she won't let Ye Xiaoxiao open the windows and insists that Ye Xiaoxiao wear long sleeves and pants. Ye Xiaoxiao looks like she's been pulled out of the water every day.
She couldn't stand it any longer, so when her mother-in-law finished washing the baby's diapers, she opened the window to let in some fresh air.
She closes the windows immediately upon hearing any noise. Sometimes, if she doesn't close them in time, she gets a lecture.
By the tenth day, many relatives and friends came to visit her.
Most of them were old relatives of the Li family. There were also his aunt and cousin.
"Xiaoxiao, have you written to your mom and dad about giving birth?"
Aunt Liu Cuilan sat on the kang (a heated brick bed), holding the child and talking to her.
"Not yet. I'm thinking of going to town to call home after I finish my postpartum confinement."
Ye Xiaoxiao felt a little embarrassed; she really hadn't remembered this.
"Then I'll call them tomorrow. It doesn't matter if they come or not, I'll just let them know first."
That way they can rest assured. And your mother will know you've given birth to a big, healthy boy.
The aunt kissed the child on the cheek as she spoke. She clearly adored the child.
"Then Auntie, you should also tell them that I will call them after I finish my postpartum period and tell them that they don't need to come anymore. It's such a long way. I will take the baby back home when the baby is a little older."
Ye Xiaoxiao thought about how incredibly good the original owner's family had been to her, and she couldn't be ungrateful.
The original owner's older brother alone helped her out of more than 10,000 yuan, which is a lot of money these days.
"Yes, that's only right. You haven't gone back yet since you came here. We'll have Chenyang go with you."
"It's time to meet the parents. Has the child been named yet?" the aunt asked, inquiring about the name.
His grandfather named him Li Zhonghao.
Ye Xiaoxiao wasn't too conflicted about naming her child. She figured the older generation would be happy to come up with a name, and it wasn't bad anyway.
"Not bad. Hao Hao sounds good too."
Almost all the relatives had come, but Li Yanhong didn't arrive until half a month after giving birth. When she came, she only brought two bundles of noodles and didn't even bring an egg.
"Sister-in-law, I just heard you've given birth."
Li Yanhong didn't feel embarrassed at all. She made up an excuse for herself as soon as she entered the room.
He said he's been busy at home lately, tending to the cornfield every day.
"Sister-in-law, my family's living conditions aren't good, so I only brought you two bundles of noodles. Please don't mind."
Seeing that her sister-in-law was looking at her without saying anything, Li Yanhong placed the two bundles of noodles on the table.
Ye Xiaoxiao looked at her and smiled:
"It's alright, I'll do the same when you're in postpartum confinement. I won't mind, and I should thank you."
I reckon if you have a baby, your brother and I will both have to move out, and we won't have an easy time either.
"It would be so kind of us to send back the gift as you have, easing our burden as well!"
"..." Li Yanhong didn't expect Ye Xiaoxiao to say such a thing. For a moment, she didn't know what to say, but she was furious.
Seeing that the two women were about to fight as soon as they met, Liu Juan quickly pulled Li Yanhong out of the room.
When they entered the other room, Liu Juan's expression immediately changed.
"You...I...Your sister-in-law has been in her period for half a month, why are you only coming now?"
"You're late, fine, but all you brought were two bundles of noodles. Didn't you have any eggs at home? You didn't even take a single one."
In rural areas, the things a midwife prepares for childbirth are nothing more than a few eggs and two handfuls of noodles.
Li Yanhong is her own sister, and yet she acted like this.
This made Liu Juan want to curse, but she didn't want to raise her voice too much so that outsiders could hear.
"Mom, it's not like we don't have eggs at home. Why are you arguing with me about this? I didn't come empty-handed."
You're blaming me now? Listen to what my sister-in-law said; she even said it's my turn now.
He also took two bundles of noodles. He's the eldest, and he and my younger sister are counting these.
Isn't this just them complaining that I didn't bring enough?
"Hehe, then let me ask you, what would you say if it were you?"
Liu Juan is utterly speechless about her eldest daughter now; how come she never realized she was this kind of person before?
