"Go find the basin for me, we still need it for bathing!" Upon hearing this, the fifth brother ran back first.
When I got home, my third sister-in-law was washing clothes in that big basin.
"Third sister-in-law, eldest sister-in-law asked me to take the basin back." Fifth brother stood by the basin and wouldn't leave.
"I'm using it now. I'll return it to him when I'm done."
Sun Xiuju couldn't bear to part with the big basin. It's already been brought back here, what more could she want? She'd already asked her third brother; this basin had been at home with her eldest brother before it was divided up. How could it be said to belong to the eldest brother?
"You're only washing two pieces of clothing, do you really need two big basins? Your sister-in-law is waiting for them."
The fifth brother couldn't read people's expressions. He reached out and started to rummage through the basin.
"Hey, aren't you the boss's lackey? She tells you to come and get it, so you come and get it. She tells you to die, so why don't you just die?"
Sun Xiuju was already angry. Instead of helping with chores at home after school, the younger kids all ran off to the eldest brother's place to slack off.
"I don't care, my sister-in-law wanted their basin, she didn't take ours, so why can't I take it?"
The fifth brother was a straightforward person. As he spoke, he picked up Sun Xiuju's clothes from the basin and put them into another iron basin.
They simply poured out the water from the large basin.
Sun Xiuju was furious. Was this kid brainless? She'd just lathered her clothes with soap; shouldn't he have used the water?
"What's wrong? Fifth brother, what are you doing?"
Liu Juan came out of the house and saw Lao Wu carrying that big basin, about to leave. Behind him, Lao San's wife was so angry that her face turned ashen.
"My sister-in-law wants a basin; she asked me to take it back."
After saying this, the fifth brother didn't care what his mother wanted to say next, and immediately picked up the big basin and ran out the door.
Liu Juan's heart tightened; she had forgotten to return the gifts to her eldest son's family. Then she looked at her third son's wife's condition.
She was so angry her eyes and nose were practically bulging. She immediately went over and said:
"Alright, that pot originally belonged to the eldest daughter's family. She bought it herself, so it has nothing to do with the family. You don't need to act like this. If you buy something yourself, it's yours. The family won't take it away."
Liu Juan could easily understand what Sun Xiuju was thinking; after all, she had been a daughter-in-law herself.
"Mom, I'm not angry about this. You've made such a bad impression on me. I just think my sister-in-law is being too stingy. I'm still washing clothes. Can't she wait a little while? It's not like I'm not going to return them to her after I'm done."
Sun Xiuju went to fetch water again as she spoke.
“When we took it from there, we didn’t tell your sister-in-law. We should have sent it back in advance when she came back.”
Liu Juan definitely didn't want her two daughters-in-law to cause any more trouble.
"I think it's all because that fifth brother is too reckless. I'll teach him a lesson when he gets back."
Ye Xiaoxiao, holding her child, began to check the homework of her four children. The fifth child's homework was basically okay, probably because he had studied it for a year.
Li Yanni is fine now, but the sixth and seventh brothers are looking rather shifty, carefully watching their sister-in-law as they write.
"You two, if you can't write this character well, rewrite it."
Ye Xiaoxiao looked at the messy writing on the notebook, then at the pencils in the two people's hands. Only pencil stubs remained.
The seventh child, who was thinking about finishing the writing quickly so he could go out and play, almost cried when he heard this.
"Don't cry, or you'll have to write it again." The seventh brother's pained expression almost made Ye Xiaoxiao laugh to death.
The sixth brother thought about how he had spent almost nine o'clock last night just writing, which made him more efficient than the seventh brother. He carefully wrote each stroke.
"Sister-in-law, I've finished writing."
Li Yanhong is only in first grade, so she doesn't have much homework to begin with, and she had already done some of it at school. She happily began packing her schoolbag.
"Not bad. You two older brothers should take a good look at Yanni's homework. This is the template."
Ye Xiaoxiao showed Li Yanni's neat homework to the two older children.
The two boys looked pained. How could they possibly write so neatly?
Sun Xiuju has been holding back her anger these past two days because of that big basin incident.
He cursed Ye Xiaoxiao in his heart. All she did was borrow a basin to wash clothes, and it was like Lao Wu was trying to snatch the whole basin away.
That fifth brother is really something, he doesn't respect his third sister-in-law at all.
The eldest son has already moved out; only then are they truly family.
He only knows how to curry favor with his eldest sister-in-law. He's offended his third sister-in-law, though. She's holding a grudge.
Since her mother-in-law and third brother-in-law weren't home today, she blocked her brothers-in-law from going to the eldest brother's place to do their homework.
"I see you all being bossed around by your sister-in-law, doing whatever she says. We're the family, but they've all gone their separate ways."
The four children looked at each other, and before they even left, their third sister-in-law gave each of them a farm tool.
The older ones go to work in the fields, and the younger ones go to find grass for the sheep.
"Third Sister-in-law, Eldest Sister-in-law said she's going to check Sixth and Seventh Brother's homework today. If we don't go, Eldest Sister-in-law will be coming over soon."
The fifth brother tried to persuade her, unaware that his third sister-in-law was still angry with him for taking the basin yesterday, and said bluntly.
"She just came over like that. Who does she think she is? She meddles in everything all day long, but doesn't she have to do anything at home?"
With so much work to do, and having you all called over every day, who's going to do the housework?
Sun Xiuju was just looking for trouble. It was only the beginning of spring; there was no grass to cut yet. She insisted on keeping these guys from going to the boss's side.
"My sister-in-law told us to go study, and we didn't slack off. Now, where would we find grass? I'm not going. I'm going to go do my homework." Li Yanni threw down her basket, slung her schoolbag over her shoulder, and tried to leave.
The sixth and seventh children didn't care, since they didn't have to do homework since they had done chores today.
Hehe, they'll just say that Third Sister-in-law sent them to do chores. No time to write.
"What are you two thinking? You're going to work today, and you'll have to finish your homework before you can sleep tonight. Believe me, even if you do sleep, your sister-in-law can still arrest you."
The fifth child looked at the hoe in his hand, unsure whether to go to the field or do his homework.
Sun Xiuju was furious when she saw that her three younger brothers were all obedient, but her younger sister-in-law didn't listen to her at all.
"You little brat, I'm your third sister-in-law, and you don't listen to me? You want a beating?"
Just then, Ye Xiaoxiao came over pushing a small cart.
Who do you want to hit?
Ye Xiaoxiao had just reached the door when she heard this. What was going on? These guys hadn't been there all day. She didn't want to give up halfway.
"It's nothing, just asking them to do some housework. All they do is run around outside all day. Sister-in-law, there's so much housework. I can't do it all by myself."
As soon as Sun Xiuju saw Ye Xiaoxiao, she immediately started speaking in a sarcastic tone.
