Chapter 73, the Sixth Day of the Month

"You're really lucky to have married such a wonderful wife as Xiaoxiao. You'd better treat her well from now on."

Lin Zhan was also quite surprised; he had never heard Liu Cuilan mention before that her apprentice's wife's family was so wealthy.

"Of course." Li Chenyang thought to himself, how could I dare to treat her badly? She beats me like it's nothing.

When they left, the teacher's wife slipped two yuan into the child's hand.

Ye Xiaoxiao pushed the child all the way, and finally stuffed the child into the swaddle blanket.

"Your master is really good to you." Of all the relatives I visited, this master gave me the most.

"Then next time Master comes, you'd better prepare some really good dishes."

On the sixth day of the Lunar New Year, Ye Xiaoxiao was woken up early by Li Chenyang.

"What are you doing before dawn?"

"Go there early, and help me tidy up if you see what else needs to be packed!" Li Chenyang was already washing his face.

"I've been tidying up for the past two days, and I prepared the groceries yesterday. There's nothing else to tidy up. You go ahead first, I'll go later. We have kids at home, it'll be fine."

Ye Xiaoxiao didn't even open her eyes. She just held the baby and fed him for a while.

"Okay, don't oversleep. You're the eldest sister-in-law in the family, it won't look good if you're late." Li Chenyang said and left.

Ye Xiaoxiao dozed off in bed for a while longer. She didn't start getting dressed until the roosters crowed outside.

Preparing for a wedding in this village is truly exhausting. The preparations start two days in advance, and yesterday they spent the entire day cleaning vegetables.

Even though Ye Xiaoxiao has a child, she didn't get home until almost 11 p.m. last night.

With so many arrangements being made, Ye Xiaoxiao was spared a lot of trouble because she had her child to shield her.

For example, when the bride arrives at the door, the elder sister-in-law is asked to go over and mediate, coaxing the bride out of the car and into the house.

Once the bride enters the house, there are various customs, all of which require her, as the eldest sister-in-law, to lead a group of brothers and sisters in making a ruckus.

She doesn't know how.

I had just finished getting dressed when I heard firecrackers going off over the old house, which was a signal for the villagers who had helped out to hurry over for dinner.

Upon hearing the sound, Ye Xiaoxiao quickly got off the kang (a heated brick bed) and washed her face.

She put on a newly made corduroy coffee-colored coat, which was fitted at the waist and looked very pretty on her.

She was also wearing a bright red dress, but the color was a bit too eye-catching today. Not to brag, but if she were really wearing bright red and standing next to Sun Xiuju, I doubt anyone would be able to tell who the bride was.

Ye Xiaoxiao tidied up the child, took two new diapers, put her son, who was watching her giggle, into the diaper, and covered him with a thick blanket.

He pulled down the awning and went outside, locking the door behind him.

"Sister-in-law, are you going over there to help?"

Ye Xiaoxiao had just locked the door when she heard Ma Yanling's voice. Turning around, she saw that Ma Yanling's face was covered in bruises, clearly indicating she had been badly beaten. But since Ma Yanling had greeted her, she couldn't pretend she hadn't heard.

"Yes, it's the third brother's wedding today. You'll be going to the banquet later."

Ye Xiaoxiao didn't dare to mention that she had been slapped in the face; everyone knew about it, and it would be awkward to bring it up.

"Okay, I'll go in a bit!" Ma Yanling forced a smile; looking like this, she had no face to go out.

Ye Xiaoxiao pushed the child towards the old house.

But seeing Ye Xiaoxiao's appearance, Ma Yanling felt a surge of anger. They were both daughters-in-law, so why was Ye Xiaoxiao living a better life than her?

Every day it's the same old baby stroller and diapers, and they even bought that big iron stove for 150 yuan. Suddenly, she realized that Ye Xiaoxiao didn't go out to work or anything, and Li Chenyang didn't seem to have a job in the city like other girls. Just because her family was rich and could give her so much, she wondered if Ye Xiaoxiao was seeing someone else. Was she getting money from another man?

Thinking about this, Ma Yanling decided to look around more in the future, hoping she could find some surprise for the Li family.

When Ye Xiaoxiao arrived, she ran into Aying, who had gone to help. The two chatted and laughed as they headed towards the old house.

Li Chenyang, along with Li Chenhui and some of his good brothers, rode bicycles to the bride's house to pick her up.

We need to have a big pot of stew at home first to fill our stomachs. All the families who came to help eat here.

The big pot stew contains everything; it's just a hodgepodge.

Ye Xiaoxiao sat with Aying and Zhou Amei; they were considered to have a good relationship.

"Sister-in-law, we're counting on you today," Zhou Amei said with a grin.

"I don't understand. You all know I married into this family from far away, and many things here are different from what we have back home..."

"You don't understand now, but you'll understand after today. You still have four younger brothers who aren't married yet, so you need to practice more." Ah Ying joked as well.

Although Ye Xiaoxiao didn't understand, her father-in-law did, and he even gave Ye Xiaoxiao another round of instructions.

The main point is that the entire process of the new bride arriving at her new home depends on her words.

They also slipped her a few red envelopes, which were to be given to the children who would be part of the bride's dowry.

You have to play around a bit before you can get in. It's just a formality.

Ye Xiaoxiao got the gist of it and just accepted whatever they said. If Sun Xiuju wanted to come in, great; if not, so be it.

Anyway, I already have all five red envelopes in hand, so I'll just give them to them later.

As for what to say, Ye Xiaoxiao didn't intend to keep the remaining red envelopes for herself. The red envelopes mostly contained one or two cents, with a maximum of five cents.

She doesn't lack that little bit; the main thing is, she doesn't want to get too involved with Sun Xiuju. Even if she were getting married today, it would be the same.

After dinner at home, it was only a little before ten o'clock. With some people helping in the kitchen, Ye Xiaoxiao's task was to greet the relatives who had come over.

It simply means chatting and talking to people.

She basically answered the questions asked by others. Li Yanhong also came, along with her parents-in-law this time.

Her mother-in-law, Liu Guihua, held her hand tightly the whole time, afraid that she would cause trouble again.

"Sister-in-law, I heard you made new clothes for everyone in the family."

As soon as Li Yanhong opened her mouth, Ye Xiaoxiao knew she was up to no good.

"Yes, isn't it Chinese New Year?"

Xiaoxiao didn't say much. However, her words earned her many compliments from her fans, who praised her for being generous.

She's really good to her family, and so on.

"Sister-in-law, you can't be biased! I'm your sister too, why don't you include me?"

Upon hearing Li Yanhong's words, Liu Guihua's face darkened. This Li Yanhong must be brainless. How could she talk like that? She's already married, yet she still comes to ask her sister-in-law for new clothes.

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Liu Guihua immediately smiled and covered up her words.

"How old are you to still joke like that with your sister-in-law? Aren't you afraid people will laugh at you?"

Liu Guihua reached out and pinched Li Yanhong's waist. She had repeatedly told her to keep quiet before she came, but here she was again. She regretted once more having married such a troublemaker to her son.
