Chapter 41: Father

Because he couldn't buy a soft sleeper, Qin was sitting in his seat at this moment, feeling extremely heavy-hearted.

The devastating news that Bai Suzhen told her before she left kept echoing in her mind, as if it was an unbridgeable chasm lying across her heart.

The hard-seat carriage was filled with a cacophony of voices, all intertwined into a chaotic din. There were children crying, adults chatting, and the roar of the train. These sounds surged towards Qin Wan like a tide, making her feel a little suffocated.

She frowned and tried to cover her ears with her hands to block out the annoying noise, but it seemed to be in vain. She took a deep breath, trying to regulate her breathing, trying to find a trace of peace in this chaotic environment. However, the waves in her heart were difficult to calm down. Bai Susu's words before leaving were like a bomb, constantly exploding in her mind, shaking her uneasy.

"Wan Wan, I have some news to tell you. Listen to it, but don't tell anyone." Before she died, Bai Su Su called Qin Wan to her bedside and said to her with an extremely serious expression. These words were like a sharp sword, piercing Qin Wan's inner peace and making her heart beat faster.

Qin Wan nodded expressionlessly, but she felt a little impatient in her heart. She had always been a straightforward person, and was very dissatisfied with Bai Susu's procrastination.

"Wanwan, he...he...he, he is actually, actually, not, not, your father." Bai Susu stuttered, as if she needed to muster up the courage to say every word.

Qin Wan's face turned pale in an instant. She stared at Bai Susu with wide eyes in disbelief, and asked with a slightly trembling voice, "What!"

Bai Susu took a deep breath, as if she had finally made up her mind. She looked directly into Qin Wan's eyes and spoke a little faster than before: "I said, he, Qin Huai, is not actually your father."

Qin Wan felt dizzy, her world completely shattered at that moment. She could never have imagined that the father she had always believed in was not her biological father.

"Then who is my biological father?" Qin Wan suppressed his inner shock, stared at Bai Susu sharply, and asked.

Bai Susu's body trembled slightly. She lowered her head, not daring to look Qin Wan in the eye. After a moment's silence, she slowly said, "I don't know. I, I, I once had an argument with your father and ran away from home. Someone dragged me into an alley and raped me... The man seemed to be a soldier, and he had been drugged..."

Bai Susu's voice became increasingly low, until it could no longer be heard. However, Qin Wan was still able to reconstruct the entire story in his mind.

On a dark and windy night, Bai Suzhen, who had quarreled with her husband, ran out of the house in anger.

When passing through an alley, they met a soldier who had been drugged. The soldier couldn't control himself and dragged Bai Suzhen into the alley to get the antidote.

This scene happened to be discovered by Qin Huai who came out to look for Bai Suzhen.

After ten months of pregnancy and the birth of the baby, Bai Susu and Qin Huai both had guilty consciences, which is why Qin Huai kept thinking about Qin Wan; and it was also for this reason that Bai Susu did not dare to have any opinions when Qin Wan was abused.

Qin Wan stood there as if struck by lightning. She widened her eyes and stared at Bai Suzhen in disbelief, as if she wanted to see the truth through her eyes.

Although Qin Huai had always been cold and even a little harsh to her, Qin Wan had never doubted the blood relationship between them. She had always thought that Qin Huai was just not good at expressing his feelings, or that he was too busy with work to care about her.

However, this sudden news hit her heart like a sledgehammer, shattering her world in an instant.

"Are you sure?" Qin Wan's voice trembled a little. She tried desperately to calm herself down, but the waves in her heart were like surging waves, difficult to calm down.

Bai Susu looked at Qin Wan, a trace of pain and helplessness flashing in her eyes. She nodded slowly, as if she had exhausted all her strength.

"Wanwan, I'm sure. I've kept this matter in my heart and didn't dare tell you for fear of affecting your growth. But now, I'm almost dying, and I don't want to leave with this secret."

Bai Suzhen's voice was low and sad, and every word was like a sharp sword, piercing Qin Wan's heart.

Qin Wan was silent for a moment, digesting this shocking news.

She suddenly recalled some fragments of the original owner's childhood memories. At that time, Qin Huai would often stare at the original owner in a trance. She thought that he must have known about it at the time and must have disliked the original owner in his heart.

"Then...he, Qin Huai, does he know about this?" Qin Wan asked this question with difficulty.

At this moment, Qin Wan secretly felt fortunate that Qin Huai had passed away, because if he were still alive, she really didn't know how to face the man she had always regarded as her father.

Bai Susu shook her head gently, a trace of imperceptible guilt flashing across the depths of her eyes. She took a deep breath and said slowly:

"He doesn't know all this, I've been hiding it from him. I'm afraid that once he finds out the truth, he'll leave me and even abandon you. Wanwan, I know this is selfish, but my love for you is genuine. The reason I haven't been good enough to you is actually partly because I want to atone for my sins."

However, Qin Wan held a different view on Bai Susu's explanation. She looked at Bai Susu calmly, thinking to herself, maybe Qin Huai had already seen through all this?

Qin Wan glanced at Bai Susu expressionlessly. She really didn't know how to judge this Ms. Bai.

No matter what mistakes Bai Suzhen made, she always seemed to be able to find a seemingly reasonable excuse for her behavior.
