Aunt Yu's originally calm face turned ashen in an instant, her brows were furrowed into a deep "川" shape, and her eyes revealed immense worry and anxiety.
"What kind of trouble have you gotten yourself into, kid? Tell me now!"
Aunt Yu's face was full of anxiety. She reached out and gently stroked Bai Yanyan's trembling back, trying to calm her restless heart which was extremely excited.
At the same time, he kept muttering words of comfort, hoping to calm Bai Yanyan down as soon as possible.
However, at this moment, Bai Yanyan was already shrouded in fear and despair. Tears burst out like a flood, and only sobbing sounds came out of her throat. She had completely lost the ability to respond to her mother's questions.
Seeing this, Aunt Yu couldn't help but frown and felt even more anxious.
After pausing for a moment, she suddenly raised her right hand, slapped Bai Yanyan's shoulder twice, and urged loudly:
"Don't cry! What happened? Tell me everything!"
Hearing her mother's stern scolding, Bai Yanyan's body trembled violently, and her sobbing became a little softer, but she still couldn't stop her rapid breathing.
After a long while, she finally mustered up the courage and said in a tearful and broken voice:
"I...I...Mom, your son-in-law...he actually went gambling with someone behind my back, and not only did he lose everything, he also owed a huge amount of usury! Those loan sharks came to our house with ferocious looks, threatening that if I didn't pay back the money, they would...they would...me...me..."
Having said this, Bai Yanyan seemed unable to bear the huge pressure in her heart any longer, and she burst into tears again before she finished speaking.
Aunt Yu's eyes widened, her face filled with astonishment. She raised her voice and shouted angrily:
"What are you going to do? Tell me now!"
Bai Yanyan lowered her head deeply, like a frightened deer, and did not dare to look up at her mother's eyes full of disappointment and anger.
After a long silence, she stammered a few words through her teeth:
"Just...sell me to the mountains to pay off the debt..."
After hearing this, Aunt Yu felt as if the whole world began to spin violently and her vision went dark.
She had imagined countless times that her daughter would come to her on her own initiative, but she never expected it to be such a heartbreaking scene.
Her hands were shaking uncontrollably. She raised a finger tremblingly and pointed it directly at her daughter. Her voice became hoarse with extreme anger:
"You...you kid, you're really driving me crazy! What should I say to you? Why are you so disappointing?"
After hearing this, the girl cried even more miserably, her tears pouring out like a flood.
"Mom, this is all my fault. I've truly realized my mistake! Please save me! I can't be sold to that remote mountain village!"
Aunt Yu closed her eyes tightly, tears streaming down her wrinkled cheeks uncontrollably. She gritted her teeth, as if making a great decision, and squeezed out a few words:
"Never mind, okay, Mom promised to help you."
When Bai Yanyan heard her mother's agreement to help, she immediately stopped crying. A smile instantly blossomed on her tearful face. She couldn't wait to stretch out a hand towards Aunt Yu and said coquettishly:
"Then please give me the things quickly."
However, at this moment, Aunt Zhang, who had been standing silently beside her, suddenly winked at Aunt Yu without leaving any trace, and then quickly gave her a meaningful look.
That look was like a silent electric current, and the meaning contained in it was clear and unambiguous: Never hand over the money to Bai Yanyan, that ungrateful ungrateful person!
But surprisingly, Aunt Yu was sitting there motionless, as if under a spell. Her weather-beaten face was expressionless.
Not only did she ignore Aunt Zhang's hint, she also turned a blind eye to her daughter who asked her for money.
Bai Yanyan had always been spoiled in front of her mother. Seeing Aunt Yu was dumbfounded, she urged her impatiently:
"Mom, hurry up!"
Aunt Yu still ignored her. Bai Yanyan anxiously grabbed Aunt Yu's arm and shook it hard, while constantly urging her, her voice full of anxiety and dissatisfaction.
"Mom, give it to me quickly."
"What do you want?"
Aunt Yu raised her head with a confused look on her face, and her eyes fell on her daughter, her eyes full of doubt and confusion.
Her weather-beaten face was now full of question marks, and she seemed to have no idea what her daughter was asking for.
"Oh, Mom, of course I'll give you money! You clearly promised to help me before!"
Bai Yanyan stamped her feet anxiously, her voice unconsciously rising an octave. Her beautiful eyes were filled with anxiety and longing, and she stared at her mother intently, as if afraid to miss a glimmer of hope.
Because of her excitement, her cheeks turned red and a layer of fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead.
However, after hearing her daughter's request for money, Aunt Yu's originally calm expression suddenly turned serious. Her brows were furrowed tightly, her lips were pressed into a straight line, and her eyes revealed an unquestionable majesty.
