Qin Wan and the children stood at the door, watching Lu Yu and the soldiers rush to the beach. Their hearts were filled with prayers and hopes, hoping that the fishermen at sea would return safely.
"Mom, Dad, when will they be back?" Dabao raised his childish face, his big eyes sparkling with curiosity and anxiety.
Qin Wan squatted down, gently stroked his head, and said softly:
"Be good, Dabao. Mommy doesn't know when they will come back, but I know they will definitely rescue the fishermen!"
"I believe it too!" Dabao said in a baby voice.
"I believe it too!" Erbao also said quickly.
When the Three Treasures and the Four Treasures saw this, they quickly expressed their belief as well:
"Dad will definitely rescue the fishermen."
Even though the man is not at home, life on the island is still very lively.
Sister Luo finished her breakfast early in the morning, thinking that today would be a good day for fishing. She quickly packed up her things and excitedly knocked on Qin Wan's door.
"Sister Qin Wan, the weather is nice today, how about we go to the beach together?"
Mrs. Luo stood at the door with a smile on her face, holding her little girl in her arms.
Qin Wan's eyes lit up immediately when she heard this. These days, the men are all out at sea on missions, and although the family has lost some of its backbone, the women never lose their composure because of this.
They have long been accustomed to this kind of life and have learned to live a fulfilling life when men are not around.
"Okay, Sister Luo, I was just worried that no one would go with me!"
Qin Wan readily agreed and turned to call Aunt Yu and the quadruplets. Soon, the group set off in a grand procession.
Sister Luo walked in front with Niu Niu, while Qin Wan and Aunt Yu followed behind with the quadruplets.
The quadruplets were lively and active, chattering all the way, adding a lot of fun to the sea-hunting trip.
Arriving at the beach, the sea breeze blew in their faces, carrying the salty smell of the sea and the freshness of seaweed. The women rolled up their trouser legs, picked up shovels and buckets, and began to search for treasures on the beach.
Mrs. Luo is very experienced and can tell at a glance where there are crabs and shellfish.
As she dug, she also taught Qin Wan and Aunt Yu how to do it. Qin Wan also learned seriously, and soon dug up several plump crabs.
The quadruplets had a blast, chasing the waves and building sandcastles on the beach. Niuniu also joined them, and the children had a blast.
Time passed quickly, and in the blink of an eye it was noon. The women, with their harvests full, happily headed home carrying their heavy buckets and bags.
On the way, they also discussed how to cook the seafood in the evening, whether to steam, boil or stir-fry, and everyone was full of anticipation.
When they were almost at the compound, a sudden commotion came from the family compound. Qin Wan and Mrs. Luo couldn't help but stop and listen.
"What's wrong with you doing some work? Didn't we marry you into our family so that you can work? Eat and drink at our house, and do some work for us, what's wrong with that? Why did our Zhou family marry a cunning, lazy, and greedy bitch like you?"
An old lady's voice was sharp and piercing, full of dissatisfaction and resentment.
Qin Wan's brows were tightly furrowed, and he felt as if something was blocking his heart, making him feel very uncomfortable.
She couldn't help but think of the rumors about the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. Some mothers-in-law would rely on their status to make things difficult for their daughters-in-law.
These mothers-in-law not only beat and scold their daughters-in-law, but also often sow discord in front of their sons, causing conflicts between their sons and daughters-in-law.
Qin Wan never thought that such a thing would happen to him.
Sister Luo beside her seemed to see what Qin Wan was thinking. She sighed softly and then said in a low voice:
"It must be Mrs. Zhou's mother-in-law who's scolding us. She just came here two days ago, and I heard she'll be staying here for quite a while."
After hearing what Sister Luo said, Qin Wan felt even more uncomfortable.
She knew Mrs. Zhou a little bit. Mrs. Zhou was gentle, friendly, hardworking and capable. She was also filial to her mother-in-law and never complained.
However, such a good daughter-in-law is always criticized by her mother-in-law and even scolded by her. This is really unbearable.
"Should we go and take a look?" Qin Wan hesitated for a moment and asked softly, his eyes falling hesitantly on the crowd in the distance.
Sister Luo shook her head slowly, a helpless look on her face, and said softly:
"At this time, it would be useless for us to go there. We might even embarrass Mrs. Zhou even more." She paused, then continued, "I'll find an opportunity later, quietly go over and take a look, and give her some advice."
Qin Wan nodded silently. Although she felt a little reluctant, she also understood that what Sister Luo said made sense. After all, in such an occasion, there were many people and many opinions. If they went there rashly, they might not only fail to help, but would bring more trouble to Sister Zhou.
"What should we do now?" Qin Wan asked.
Mrs. Luo thought for a moment and said, "Let's take the children back now. We don't want them to hear these unpleasant words."
Qin Wan agreed, so she and Aunt Yu asked their four children to hold hands and line up in a row, and then the two of them followed behind the children, carefully watching them to make sure they didn't run around.
Mrs. Luo took Niu Niu's hand and slowly followed the children, walking towards home together.
Along the way, Sister Luo and Aunt Yu were talking about Sister Zhou's mother-in-law. The two of them chatted with each other, and it was very lively.
"That old woman definitely came here to cause trouble for Sister Zhou," Sister Luo said with a firm look on her face. "Ever since she came, she's had a sullen face all day, as if someone owes her something."
"That's possible!" Aunt Yu echoed. "Sister Zhou ruined her mother-in-law's plan to have Captain Zhou take on the responsibility of both wives. How could the old woman not hold a grudge? This old woman is truly cruel!"
"Can you blame Sister Zhou for this? Anyone would do the same thing." Sister Luo said indignantly, "Who wants their man to be taken away by another woman? Sister Zhou did this to protect her family."
"Of course that's the truth, but it's all because of Mrs. Zhou's mother-in-law being unreasonable."
Aunt Yu sighed helplessly.
"I've seen this happen a lot in my hometown. Some old men and women never talk to their daughters-in-law about reason, but about generation. As long as they think they are older, they can do whatever they want, regardless of right or wrong."
Some parents-in-law like to take advantage of their seniority and exploit their daughters-in-law in various ways. She felt that Zhou's mother-in-law was one of them.
After listening to the conversation between Sister Luo and Aunt Yu for a while, Qin Wan felt that she knew the truth.
