Extra Chapter 26: Qin Huai

When Liu Yonggan brought his wife Ma Limei and invited all the brothers in the camp to drink and celebrate together, Qin Huai suddenly woke up from his dream - it turned out that his good brother had married the white moonlight in his heart.

At that time, Qin Huai stared blankly at Ma Limei in front of him and found that she was more charming and attractive than before.

The curved eyebrows, the eyes like autumn water, and the slightly upturned corners of the mouth all made Qin Huai's heart moved.

At this moment, jealousy surged in his heart like a tide, almost drowning him.

His eyes involuntarily fell on Liu Yonggan who was standing next to Ma Limei. Looking at their intimacy, Qin Huai felt more and more envious and jealous.

He suppressed his inner turmoil, forced a smile, and came to Captain Liu with a glass of wine in hand. He pretended to be sincere and said to him:

"Brother Yonggan, you have a successful career and a happy family. You are truly enviable. Come, let me toast you!"

Qin Huai said this and drank the wine in the glass.

To outsiders, he was blessing his boss for a better life, but he himself knew that he was trying to use alcohol to numb the jealousy and resentment in his heart.

Liu Yonggan smiled and toasted him back, his eyes revealing a bit of appreciation: "Qin Huai, you are becoming more and more promising. You have been performing very well at work recently."

"Thank you for the encouragement, leader!" Qin Huai said and drank another glass.

The instructor next to him saw this and reminded him with a smile:

"Xiao Qin, we can drink, but don't get drunk. We still have training tomorrow."

Qin Huai laughed heartily. "Instructor, don't you know what I'm like? My sister-in-law is here today, and I'm happy for Captain Liu. I can't get drunk!"

The instructor smiled and said, "As long as you're not drunk, I'm just giving you a heads up."

"Thank you for your concern, instructor." Qin Huai said, and playfully saluted the instructor, making everyone around him laugh.

Qin Huai also smiled, but it was bitter. Compared with Liu Yonggan, he seemed so small and powerless both in his career and in his feelings.

His gaze involuntarily drifted towards Ma Limei and Liu Yonggan again. Looking at the warm scene of them smiling at each other, the jealousy in his heart became even more difficult to suppress.

But he also knew that he couldn't drink too much. What if he got drunk and said something he shouldn't have, which affected his future?

Although he repeatedly warned himself not to drink too much, he still got a little tipsy.

He shook his body and watched Ma Limei and Captain Liu waving goodbye to him together. The resentment and pain in his heart became increasingly difficult to suppress.

"Why am I not the one standing next to her?" Qin Huai asked himself secretly, his voice filled with endless sorrow and regret.

That night, Qin Huai lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. When he finally drifted off to sleep, he entered a dreamland that seemed both real and illusory.

In his dream, he followed Captain Liu to carry out a mission. When it was nearing the end, a bullet flew towards him. When he was about to be shot to death, Captain Liu rushed forward without hesitation and blocked the enemy's fatal blow for him.

Captain Liu was hit in the chest, blood gushed out, his body slowly fell down, and finally closed his eyes.

Qin Huai watched all this in horror. He wanted to save Captain Liu, but found that his legs were nailed down and he couldn't move.

Immediately afterwards, Qin Huai discovered that he had replaced Captain Liu and became the new battalion commander.

In order to repay Captain Liu for saving his life, Qin Huai decided to take good care of Ma Limei and fulfill his responsibilities as a husband to Captain Liu. Finally, when he proposed to Ma Limei and hoped that Ma Limei would become his wife, he woke up.

He wiped the fine beads of sweat from his forehead with his hand, sat at the head of the bed, and recalled the scene in his dream, with a complex emotion welling up in his heart.

"If my brother really died, would I really be able to take his place and take care of his wife?"

Qin Huai couldn't help but ask himself. This question kept lingering in his mind, making him fall into deep thought.

He shook his head vigorously, as if that could get rid of the damn idea from his mind.

However, this idea was like a stubborn weed, taking root deep in his mind, and no matter how hard he tried, he could not eradicate it.

He knew very well that this idea was completely wrong, even absurd.

However, this idea entangled him like a demon, making him lose his mind and become crazy.

This idea reached its peak especially when he was on a mission with Battalion Commander Liu.

Along the way, he kept thinking about when and under what circumstances Captain Liu would save him regardless of his own safety, so much so that he was distracted several times and almost made mistakes, and was reminded several times by Captain Liu.

Once, Captain Liu even asked him if he had not had enough rest recently and was therefore lacking in energy.

He smiled awkwardly and didn't answer, but in his heart he kept cursing Captain Liu to die for him. But until the mission was nearing its end, he was not in danger, and Captain Liu did not sacrifice himself.

However, Qin Huai's soul had been possessed by his inner demons. When he saw a perfect opportunity to assassinate Captain Liu, he raised his gun without hesitation, pointed at Captain Liu, and pulled the trigger...

After completing all this, his mind went blank and his body began to tremble uncontrollably. He stared blankly at Captain Liu lying in a pool of blood, at a loss for what to do for a moment, but then he regained consciousness and began to fabricate the scene...

After returning to the army, Qin Huai suppressed his inner fear and guilt and reported the "accident" to the army leaders in tears.

"It's all my fault!" He cried, "If it wasn't for saving me, how could the battalion commander have sacrificed his life? I would rather be the one to die! Wuuwuwu..."

He cried and said, and everyone present rushed to comfort him:

"Qin Huai, this is not your fault. You don't have to blame yourself."

"Yes, a clay pot will break if it is not kept away from the well mouth, and a general will die if he does not avoid the battlefield. As soldiers, it is an honor to sacrifice for our country!"

"If Captain Liu knew that his death resulted in the successful completion of the mission and saved the life of a soldier, he would surely be smiling in his grave."

With everyone's comfort, his emotions gradually calmed down, so he did not ignore the two pairs of scrutinizing eyes that were looking at him subtly.

Qin Huai's heart tightened, and he thought to himself:

Could it be that I had let myself down somewhere? Impossible! Before returning to the army, I had practiced every possible scenario. There was no way I could have let myself down!
