Chapter 11 The Real Scoundrel: One a fake virtuous man, the other a real scoundrel.
Liang Yizhi sat in the passenger seat, holding flowers in her arms, her fingers fiddling with the damp petals, on which a few drops of dew still clung.
Gu Yinyan stood to the side, focused on driving.
Liang Yizhi asked, "By the way, did you see Gary outside? What did he look like?"
To be honest, less than an hour had passed, and Gu Yinyan had already forgotten what the person at the backstage entrance looked like, but he still remembered his voice.
Noisy, garrulous, and incessantly chattering.
Gu Yinyan recalled for a moment and simply said, "It was very noisy."
Liang Yizhi listened to his brief evaluation but didn't take it seriously. Instead, she happily said, "Then maybe we'll get along very well."
Gu Yinyan turned the steering wheel and teased her, "Have you forgotten the pain once the wound has healed?"
“I was just saying I wanted to make friends,” Liang Yizhi retorted. “I like talkative people, they’re so interesting. But you definitely wouldn’t understand.”
As Liang Yizhi brushed aside the flower petals, she realized that her words were actually biased.
Although Gu Yinyan isn't a great conversationalist, he's an excellent listener. On the surface, he might seem indifferent to everything you say, but he actually takes every single thing you mention to heart.
For example, the delicious cake that Liang Yizhi casually mentioned, and the vinyl record that she had been searching for for months without success.
For example, with just a few words, he could tell she was crying over the phone.
Liang Yizhi realized that what she said seemed a bit unfair, and just as she was about to smooth things over, Gu Yinyan didn't give her the chance.
He asked in a flat tone, "There are many standards for friends: how they conduct themselves, their interests, their values... Is talking a lot the only standard you have? Are you looking for someone to chat with?"
Gu Yinyan did not actually agree with what He Man said to Liang Yizhi a couple of days ago.
Is there any necessary connection between making friends and changing one's magnetic field? After meeting countless people, can one truly see a person's true nature through their behavior?
After all, no one wears their true thoughts on their sleeve.
What He Man described is probably similar to the "sea of questions" approach.
Gu Yinyan was unwilling to waste time on meaningless social exercises; he was better at observation.
Use the limited time to thoroughly examine a person from head to toe.
Liang Yizhi was surprised; she had only mentioned it casually, yet Gu Yinyan had gone on to talk to her about it at length.
Liang Yizhi asked, "Are you afraid I'll be scammed again?"
"……no."
"So you're worried that if I get a boyfriend, I'll neglect you guys?"
"...You're overthinking it."
Seeing his speechless expression, Liang Yizhi couldn't help but laugh.
"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing." She lowered her eyes and glanced at the flowers in her hand. "I'm only getting to know Gary right now. He's a good friend, but... there's no romantic feeling between us for the time being."
Liang Yizhi said, "Moreover, I always believe that sincere people will always be rewarded. God can't be that blind, right?"
Gu Yinyan remained silent, keeping his eyes fixed on the road ahead as he drove. After a long while, he gave a brief "hmm".
The car drove all the way to the entrance of the residential area. Liang Yizhi asked Gu Yinyan to drop her off at the entrance, but Gu Yinyan ignored her and drove straight in.
He parked the car downstairs, and Liang Yizhi got out. Remembering something, she turned back to him and said, "Oh, right. The holidays are coming soon, let's go home together then."
Gu Yinyan responded, "Okay."
After getting off the car, Liang Yizhi didn't forget to carry her violin case to the back seat.
She went back to the driver's side window: "Thanks for today, you should go home now, it's getting late."
Gu Yinyan: "You can go now, I'm leaving."
Liang Yizhi nodded, waved goodbye to him, turned around, opened the door, and went upstairs. Gu Yinyan was in the car; he watched her enter the elevator, then turned the car around and drove away.
When Liang Yizhi returned home, she chose a quaint corner in her house, where she had filled it with dolls and the walls were covered with cute stickers.
She placed the bouquet there, took several photos, and then sent one to Gary:
Thank you for the flowers! I received them, they are so beautiful!
Giving feedback after receiving a gift has always been her habit.
Liang Yizhi has kept many gifts from friends at home, including a painting given to her by a classmate when she was in kindergarten and the first tambourine given to her by her parents.
Gary was also very happy to receive her message, and his joy was evident in every word.
Gary: [Whatever you like!!!]
Gary: [Your performance today was fantastic!! It was my first time hearing a symphony orchestra, and it was so moving! Please invite me again if there's another chance!]
Liang Yizhi readily agreed and started typing:
Our troupe has many performances; you're welcome to come anytime, and I'll reserve tickets for you.
They chatted enthusiastically, and to express her gratitude, Liang Yizhi made an appointment with him to have dinner together a few days later.
-
The next morning.
Around 8 a.m., Gu Yinyan drove to work.
The car pulled into the office building's underground parking garage, and Gu Yinyan grabbed the keys, closed the car door, and headed towards the elevator.
Behind him, a figure darted out from behind a pillar and followed.
The underground parking garage was quiet, with cars occasionally driving down from the entrance, which the man carefully avoided.
Just as he reached the elevator lobby, a car drove by. He quickly concealed himself, and when he peeked out again, Gu Yinyan had already disappeared from sight.
He quickened his pace, rushed to the elevator lobby, and frantically pressed the upward elevator button.
Unfortunately, he had already experienced firsthand how slow the elevators were during rush hour.
Helpless, the man angrily slammed his hand on the elevator button to vent his frustration.
At this moment, Gu Yinyan's calm and composed voice came from the side:
"Team Leader Xie, it's been a long time."
Gu Yinyan stood behind him and greeted him in a detached tone.
Xie Yun was furious when he saw Gu Yinyan's calm and composed face. He was filled with rage and lunged at Gu Yinyan, throwing a punch at him.
Gu Yinyan dodged without even moving his hand. He frowned, not wanting to waste any more words with him, and took out his phone to call the property management staff.
Xie Yun lunged at him again to grab his phone, but Gu Yinyan shoved him away.
He slumped to the ground, and Gu Yinyan finally lost his temper, scolding with a stern face, "What's wrong with you?"
"I'm going crazy?" Xie Yun sneered. "Can't I go crazy? Now I know, I know everything! How long do you think you and Liang Yizhi can enjoy yourselves for?"
Gu Yinyan's expression remained unchanged.
Xie Yun knew he had made a mistake, but he never imagined Liang Yizhi would be so heartless. After all, they had dated, and he had put aside all his pride, even kneeling down to beg for her forgiveness. How could she not give him the slightest chance?
Xie Yun wanted to talk to Liang Yizhi. But his phone number had been blocked, and he couldn't find her at her address, so he could only go to the orchestra.
The orchestra's rehearsal schedule was irregular, making it difficult to catch people. Xie Yun checked the orchestra's performance schedule online and went to the downtown concert hall to wait at the entrance.
He did indeed meet the person and obtained some very important information.
For example, Liang Yizhi seems to have a new love interest; the two were seen embracing and holding flowers on the street.
For example, by the dim light of the street lamps, he discovered that the person was none other than his former boss, Gu Yinyan, who had fired him before.
That scene had a huge impact on him.
When did they get together?
Xie Yun thought about it for days, losing his appetite and unable to eat or drink, all he could think about. He was furious and went to confront the adulterer, determined to catch him in the act.
Xie Yun stared intently at the person opposite him.
His expensive designer clothes, spotless black shoes, and neatly tied tie all showcased his superior taste and refinement.
No wonder Leung Yik-chi wouldn't let herself touch it.
Is this the kind of person she likes? Is this the only person worthy of her?
When Gu Yinyan tries to kiss her, will she turn her head away to avoid it?
No, for someone as distinguished as him, Liang Yizhi would naturally offer him a kiss; he might already be someone else throwing themselves at him.
Xie Yun was completely unaware that his mind had been completely distorted by jealousy and hatred.
Xie Yun let out a near-manic laugh: "What a perfect match! One's a hypocrite, the other's a real scoundrel. You two are a match made in heaven."
Gu Yinyan ignored him, but from the details in his eyes and brows, one could tell that he was suppressing his anger.
He called the property management office and said in a deep voice, "Where are the security guards in the basement elevator lobby? Don't they want to quit? They're letting all sorts of random people in?"
The person on the other end was so frightened that they immediately apologized and ordered their subordinates to send someone over right away.
Before the person on the phone could finish speaking, Xie Yun rushed forward and, taking advantage of Gu Yinyan's phone call, raised his hand and punched him.
Gu Yinyan fell to the side, his phone screen slamming against the ground with a startling crack.
Seeing him with his head down and not saying a word, Xie Yun sneered again.
He looks like a frail young master, so easily broken.
"How many times have you two slept together? Liang Yizhi must be very shy in bed." Xie Yun squatted down, grabbed Gu Yinyan's collar, and breathed heavily on his face.
"You know what? Every time she came to see me, she wore a matching lingerie set. She was incredibly sexy, but she always acted like she was playing hard to get. So how did you manage to get her?"
Gu Yinyan tilted his head and remained silent.
Xie Yun realized that the punch he had just thrown was quite heavy. If the security guards hadn't arrived soon, he would have liked to punch that pretty face a few more times, preferably breaking his high nose bridge so that he wouldn't have the right to go around bewitching others.
Xie Yun only thought about it; he wasn't good at fighting, and it was lucky he even managed to land a hit. He released the man, lifted his foot, and kicked Gu Yinyan's shin a few times to vent his anger.
Having vented his anger, he turned and prepared to flee the scene.
He had only taken half a step when a violent force came from his shoulder, pulling him back.
Before he could react, he was struck hard in the middle of his face, his face flying away. He immediately fell to the ground, clutching his face and howling.
Gu Yinyan stood in front of him, casting a shadow over Xie Yun, who lay on the ground in agony.
He kept a cold expression, licked the corner of his lips, and tasted a very slight metallic rust.
He was deliberately let do that, and he actually thought he had gotten the better deal.
Gu Yinyan's strike was truly steady and accurate, a deadly blow that made Xie Yun see stars.
The fantasy he had just had about breaking his own nose came true.
A warm stream welled up in Xie Yun's nose, and blood trickled from the corner of his lips. The light from the overhead lamp stung his eyes, bringing tears to his eyes.
"High-minded? Scoundrel?" Gu Yinyan looked down at him. "Then what are you? A rat that dares to hide in the sewers?"
Gu Yinyan squatted down, pinched his chin, and forced him to look directly at the white light above his head: "Liang Yizhi must often praise you, otherwise I really can't figure out where your sense of superiority comes from."
“I’ve known Liang Yizhi for ten years. We’ve shared a bed countless times, let alone underwear.”
"I picked out your birthday present for her, and you got into Mingju because of Liang Yizhi. Otherwise, do you really think it's so easy to get into Mingju with that flimsy resume?"
Gu Yin spoke calmly, but his hands were ruthless. Xie Yun felt like his jawbone was about to shatter, and the pain almost made him bite off his tongue.
Gu Yinyan: "Also, I want to remind you not to use your dirty thinking to speculate about other people's relationships. Mind your own business."
"I don't want to hear another word about Liang Yizhi from your mouth."
Xie Yun's face was pinched out of shape, and he suddenly realized why Liang Yizhi had insisted on recommending him to come here for the interview.
Despite his lack of experience, he was able to become a team leader in a short period of time.
He thought his luck had turned around and that his talents had been hidden, but it turned out it was all thanks to his girlfriend.
"It's you...it's all your fault..." Xie Yun screamed, baring his teeth, and tried to pounce on him again.
Gu Yinyan pushed the man to the ground, released him, and dusted off his sleeves.
He looked down at her and said, "I've already said that you can't just say things like that, Team Leader Xie. You made a mistake yourself, and everyone was just following the rules."
Gu Yinyan straightened the hem and collar of his clothes, regaining his usual gentle and aloof demeanor.
He glanced at the twisted body on the ground and felt only irritation, a tightness in his chest, and difficulty breathing.
He raised his hand, untied the dark, patterned tie worth four figures from his collar, and tossed it to Xie Yun's side.
Gu Yinyan: "Take this and wipe it clean. When you leave, it's best to avoid former colleagues so as not to embarrass the company."
He strode off and walked away.
