Chapter Seven: Nobody Believes

The fifteen unconscious people, including Xiang Biao, were all thrown into two vans by Garuru and left there. Wu You wasn't worried at all that they might come back for a surprise attack.

As for calling the police, they didn't actually lose their lives, but if they did, their act of trespassing with weapons would be exposed.

Even if they did call the police, would they believe them? Wu You could simply put Garuru into the beast pen space, and the police wouldn't be able to find the lion monster they were talking about.

However, the police did indeed arrive early the next morning; it was the villagers who had called the police.

The villagers were also terrified last night. In the middle of the night, they heard a loud roar of a wild beast, like a tiger or a lion, followed by a scream from a person.

But no one dared to leave the village to look, and fortunately, no more sounds came from it afterward.

The next morning, some villagers realized something was wrong and called the police, saying there might be a large wild animal in the village that might have injured someone.

After the police officers from the district police station arrived, they searched the entire village area and counted the number of villagers. They found neither the so-called wild beast nor any injured villagers, and then left.

As for the two vans, people started waking up before dawn and drove out of the village as if their lives depended on it.

...

"Slap!" A hand slammed heavily onto the brown general manager's desk.

"These idiots!"

Inside the general manager's office of Shengtian Group's Qiantang branch, Liu Weiliang was yelling at his general manager assistant, Zhong Guanglai.

"A piece of land, a small hill, cost the company tens of millions of yuan in budget, and after more than half a year of work, it's still not done."

Zhong Guanglai was covered in sweat and didn't dare to utter a single word in rebuttal, but he couldn't help but mutter angrily to himself.

If it weren't for Liu Sanban trying to pocket the remaining 5 million yuan of demolition compensation budget to make it easier for himself, would things have escalated to this point?

Which is more important, the 5 million or the six months of time value of the company's new project?

Zhong Guanglai had a very low opinion of Liu Weiliang, the general manager. Liu Weiliang's nickname, Liu Sanban, literally means that he only had three tricks up his sleeve: coercion, bribery, and using crooked methods.

The fact that someone like that could become the general manager of a branch of the behemoth Shengtian Group can only mean either that the headquarters is blind or that the rumors are indeed true.

The entire upper echelon of Shengtian started out with the help of the underworld, and only in recent years has it gradually cleaned up its act. Inevitably, some of the scoundrels and scum from back then have also risen to high positions.

"Has that good-for-nothing coward Xiang Biao woken up yet?" Liu Weiliang's question interrupted Zhong Guanglai's little scheme.

"He's awake, but like everyone else, he's talking nonsense and seems a bit mentally unstable."

Liu Weiliang frowned and asked, "They also say there are monsters?"

"Yes, they say they encountered a monster that killed someone, a lion spirit," Zhong Guanglai replied, somewhat amused.

Liu Weiliang pondered carefully.

Who exactly is messing with his plans? Which rival in the underworld is it?

All fifteen men had injuries of varying degrees of severity. Xiang Biao had broken his right leg. Most strangely, five of his men had perforated eardrums, and several others had five claw-like wounds on their faces.

Liu Weiliang tried it himself, and it was exactly the angle at which the fingernails scratched his face. However, the hand that left that mark must have been much bigger than his, and had long and sharp nails.

But he absolutely did not believe that monsters ate people; at most, he would associate it with certain enemies.

What a joke! If it were a real monster that ate people, all fifteen of you would have survived?

As a massive economic conglomerate involved in various industries, Shengtian certainly has competitors in all walks of life, and there are quite a few that can rival Shengtian Group.

...

After a day of rest and recovery, many of them began to wonder if they were hallucinating or dreaming, or if their adversaries were wearing masks or hoods.

Only Xiang Biao and two or three others insisted that it must be a monster, a lion spirit!

Liu Weiliang was very disappointed in Xiang Biao because of this. He originally thought that Xiang Biao had the same style as him when he was young, daring to fight and having many tricks up his sleeve. He didn't expect him to be such a coward.

Back in his office from the hospital, Liu Weiliang, having obtained no clues about his adversary, appeared somewhat agitated.

The Natural Paradise Club project has inevitably been temporarily shelved. The Wu family's few stubborn members are unyielding, and even his attempt to stage a car accident with underworld figures couldn't force them to back down.

However, it was impossible for him to cough up the 5 million. Although Liu Weiliang seemed to be doing well, his financial situation was actually in serious trouble. He had already racked up a huge gambling debt at the Macau casino. If it weren't for the protection of Shengtian Group, the debt collectors would have already come to his door to confront him.

Therefore, starting last year, Liu Weiliang frequently embezzled public funds and engaged in some gray areas.

This demolition incident in Xugou Village could be a big deal or a small deal, but if it escalates to the point where the head office gets involved, a series of his problems may be exposed. There are many people in the head office who don't like him, especially the chairman's daughter, Fan Tiantian.

Since this young woman started managing the company for her father, she has either coaxed some of the old-timers in the company who used to be involved in organized crime into early retirement or gradually sidelined them. She has a lot of tricks up her sleeve and seems determined to completely clean up Shengtian's name. If she catches him red-handed, Liu Weiliang can imagine what will happen to him.

The thought of Fan Tiantian's beautiful and sexy figure made Liu Weiliang unable to resist getting aroused.

He simply let his secretary in, and together they started fooling around in the office.

...

Inside the inpatient department of Qiantang Second Hospital, Xiang Biao, leaning on his crutches, walked to the ward where Hua Zai and Wang Dong were.

Wang Dong only suffered a mild concussion, and the test results showed that he was fine and could be discharged from the hospital immediately. However, he still planned to stay in the hospital for a few more days because he was really afraid that his boss would ask him to deal with the Wu family again.

Andy Lau's condition was much more serious; he had a fractured sternum and internal bleeding, and even the slightest movement in bed was painful. Fortunately, his life was not in danger.

Upon seeing Xiang Biao enter, the two men inside greeted him with "Brother Biao."

Xiang Biao waved his hand listlessly and carefully sat down on the chair next to Hua Zai's hospital bed.

"Andy Lau, do you think there really are gods and ghosts in this world?"

Previously, Xiang Biao had been the most dismissive of Hua Zai's superstitious ideas, but after what happened the night before, he suddenly realized that the world had become unfamiliar, and that his previous disbelief in religion and disrespect for ghosts and gods might have been a serious mistake.

"Brother Biao, I've seen gods and immortals, but as for ghosts and monsters, who knows them better than us?" Hua Zai said with lingering fear.

Wang Dong, with a mesh bandage wrapped around his head and his buzz cut shaved off, said with a look of agreement, "Brother Biao, I think we've done enough despicable things over the years, it's time to retire from this life."

Xiang Biao looked at Wang Dong, opened his mouth, and then sighed after a long while.

"Yes, you all fainted later and didn't see anything. When Liu Weiliang came to question me, I didn't tell him the whole truth."

"Actually, at the end, when I saw that Wu family kid open the door, he just looked at me calmly, like he was looking at a roadside weed. At that moment, I understood that his relationship with that monster was extraordinary. Tch, Sheng Tian? He's offended a ghost and a god. I don't think he has many good days ahead of him!"

After Xiang Biao finished speaking, he tremblingly pulled a packet of Liqun cigarettes from his pocket.

Do you smoke?

Wang Dong and Hua Zai hesitated for a moment before nodding.

Xiang Biao tossed one to Wang Dong, then took out another and personally put it in Hua Zai's mouth, lighting it for him.

After puffing away on their cigarettes, the three of them secretly resolved to do more good deeds from now on. Reflecting on their past actions, although they hadn't caused any major trouble, they were undeniably worthy of the title "scoundrel."

After finishing his cigarette, Wang Dong suddenly blurted out a sentence.

"I wonder if the Wu family will let us go?"

Both Hua Zai and Xiang Biao froze. Xiang Biao hesitated before replying, "They probably won't hold us accountable, right? His father's affairs have nothing to do with us..."

After saying that, he slapped his left thigh: "No, we have to improve our relationship with Wu Jianguo's son. Maybe this is our opportunity! By the way, what's his name?"

“His name is Wu You, the 'You' in 'worry',” Andy Lau quickly added.
