Chapter 207 The Strange Uncle and Nephew

Upon seeing this person, Wu You took notice of him.

Li Liwen's job is no ordinary one; wherever he appears, unless he's on vacation, there are usually important figures around.

However, this was clearly not a mission, because Li Liwen was drinking with two people of similar age at the same table.

How could someone who does that kind of work possibly drink alcohol during a mission?

Wu You hadn't noticed before, but now that he had, he became curious about what they were talking about, so he used some of his abilities.

...

When Li Liwen first saw the child shouting, he looked in the direction of the sound and saw the woman apologizing and the cute child. Then, like everyone else, he subconsciously glanced at Wu You's table.

Well, I didn't see any martial arts masters, but I did see two big eaters.

After looking around for a while, Li Liwen felt it was impolite, so he turned back to chat and drink with his comrades.

"Old Deng, Old He, do you still remember that mission to Russia more than ten years ago?"

One of the middle-aged men, whose face was flushed from drinking, waved his hand while hiccuping.

"Old Li, my memory has deteriorated significantly since I retired from the army. I can't even remember how I got to this hot pot restaurant..."

"Old Deng, he's had too much to drink. Old Li, which time are you asking about? We went to Russia together on quite a few missions more than ten years ago."

Li Liwen coughed.

"And the other time? The one when I made a fool of myself."

Old He deliberately let out a long "Oh~" sound.

"That time, you can't forget anything else, right? A platoon of guards nervously drew their guns, which alerted the Russians."

"Cough, it was that time! Lao He, do you remember anything special about it? Cough, besides the part where I nervously pulled out the gun, is there anything else that stands out in your memory?"

When Li Liwen specifically asked about it, Lao He put down his wine glass and thought about it carefully.

"It seems that apart from being a little nervous from the moment he got off the plane, there wasn't anything particularly special about him, except for the shooting incident involving the Russian youth, of course."

"Oh, that doesn't count."

"Let me ask you in more detail, have you noticed any particular overseas Chinese?"

“Liwen, the scope you’ve given is too broad. Overseas Chinese are included every time. I’m not Sun Wukong, I can’t just forget what I’ve seen, let alone more than ten years ago.”

Old He replied with a smile.

Why are you asking this?

Li Liwen took a sip of wine.

"It's nothing. I had a dream about it last time, and I came to Sichuan to catch up with you guys. I just remembered it and asked about it."

The guy surnamed He also got curious.

"What did you dream about that you can't stop thinking about?"

Li Liwen frowned as he finished the liquor in his glass, then used his chopsticks to cook a piece of mutton.

Inside, He Zhongze quickly poured some baijiu for Li Liwen.

"Stop keeping me in suspense, just tell me."

"Old He, do you think there are demons and monsters in this world?"

Li Liwen gave an irrelevant answer.

He Zhongze was taken aback by the question. Li Liwen, an atheist, had memorized Marxist ideology by heart, so how could he be interested in such supernatural things?

It's alright, we were just old comrades chatting anyway.

"In this world, I don't know about demons, but I think ghosts and monsters really exist."

"How so?"

"After the founding of the People's Republic of China, animals are not allowed to become spirits!" Old Deng, who was clearly drunk, suddenly said this.

"Go away, go away, aren't there plenty of strange things happening in the countryside?"

He Zhongze retorted, and then began to tell his two old comrades about his various experiences with the supernatural.

Wu You ate his hotpot at the same pace, but he was secretly having a good time.

I was just trying it out casually last time, but I didn't expect Li Liwen to actually take it to heart.

Seeing that the group at that table sway slightly as they paid their bill and left, Wu You also got up to pay his bill.

...

On a pedestrian overpass, Li Liwen and two comrades sat leaning against each other on the steps, chatting about the past while enjoying the evening breeze.

Just then, two people approached from the other side of the overpass, seemingly whispering to each other.

Li Liwen didn't really want to eavesdrop on other people's conversations, but the overpass was quiet with few cars around, so even the softest voices could easily be heard.

So I vaguely heard parts of their conversation.

"Uncle Ma, we've been tracking those wolf demons for three days now. Have we lost them?"

“Minghe, I told you, that’s a werewolf, not a wolf demon. I know whether I’ve lost track of it or not.”

"Europe seems to have a lot going on lately. Two knights from the Dark Sanctuary have died in the last two months, and the wolf demons have even come to China. This kind of thing hasn't happened in years."

"Shut up!"

Li Liwen's profession made him naturally sensitive to words like "tracking" and "tracking," and he couldn't help but want to continue listening, when the two people stopped talking because they were so close.

And as if realizing something, the talkative one deliberately found some other topics to chat about.

"Uncle Ma, when are we going to eat at that hot pot restaurant again? Can we order more meat and vegetables next time?"

The voice known as Uncle Ma only occasionally responded with a few words.

As the two approached, Li Liwen was shocked to discover...

The one called Uncle Ma was only in his twenties, while the one who was always called junior by Minghe was a bearded man who looked to be in his forties or fifties.

This strange shock immediately made Li Liwen remember these two people.

The young man, known as Uncle Ma, glanced at the three people sitting on the steps, and when he saw Li Liwen, he let out a soft "Eh," and then said nothing more.

After they had walked away, Li Liwen asked his two comrades a question.

Did you hear what they were talking about?

"They're probably just two drunkards, some kind of wolf demon or werewolf."

Old Deng gave a casual reply.

"Speaking of which, it's the fifteenth of the lunar month again, and the moon is quite round today."

As soon as He Zhongze said that, Li Liwen and Lao Deng subconsciously looked up at the moon that had just emerged from the clouds.

Li Liwen glanced at his notebook calendar; it was the 14th of the month, which is basically one of the days when the moon is at its fullest.

Under the overpass, the backs of those two strange uncle and nephew were still in sight.

The thought that hadn't crossed my mind was whether the werewolf would appear if the moon was full.

Just then, the two people under the overpass suddenly looked up at the moon in the sky, and then their figures flashed and disappeared from Li Liwen's sight in an instant.

Li Liwen stood up abruptly.

"Old Deng, Old He, did you see that?"

"What?"

Old Deng was still a little confused. He Zhongze and Li Liwen stood up and stared in the direction where the uncle and nephew had disappeared.

"Dilililililililili...Dilililililililili..."

Old He's phone suddenly rang. He pressed the answer button, and a young voice came through.

"Captain He, some residents and security guards in Temple Street say there's a large wild animal not far from you. Some people from the station have already gone there. Do you want to go and take a look?"

As if he had just thought of something, Li Liwen immediately urged He Zhongze to go over.

"Come on, Lao He, you carry Lao Deng, I'll go get the car!"

Aren't you afraid of drunk driving?

Even in his drunken state, Lao Deng didn't forget to offer a reminder.
