"Ding~"
The elevator doors opened and stopped on the fifth floor.
Although Lovett and Sora looked nervous, they still followed the apartment manager out of the elevator.
"Sora, what should we do? Should we make the call again?"
"What's wrong, Sora? Say something, Mr. Doyle. Why are you looking at me like that?"
The lights in the hallway started to dim intermittently.
The apartment manager felt sweat beading on his vest, forehead, and scalp.
"Gurgle~"
He swallowed hard and nervously exchanged a glance with Sora.
"What's wrong with you guys? Why are you staring at me?"
“J...J...Mr. Gerald...you...your shadow..."
Apartment manager Doyle stammered and struggled to finish his sentence.
Upon hearing the administrator's words, Sora seemed to suddenly remember something and immediately yelled at Lovett.
"Don't look!"
But it was too late. After hearing the apartment manager's words, Lovett instinctively turned around to look at the shadow behind him.
The reflection in his pupils did not resemble his usual shadow at all.
At this moment, the shadow had two long, thick horns, a strong body, and most notably, a pair of half-open wings.
The lower half of the shadow, resembling a hoof, connects to one's heel.
In just a moment, Lovett felt his consciousness begin to blur, and at the same time, some feelings of irritability arose.
"Damn it! This doesn't make sense!"
Sora rushed over to support Lovett, who was swaying precariously.
The violent shaking brought him back to a sliver of consciousness.
"Lovitt, fight it! You are Lovett Gerald, your spirit is not extinguished, you are not a demon!"
As she spoke, Sora took out the silver necklace, the black stains of which had not yet completely faded, and turned to face the apartment manager who was terrified and at a loss.
"Mr. Doyle! Want to be a hero?"
The apartment manager trembled all over, his face contorted with grief, and tried to move out in small steps.
"Sir...no...I don't want to..."
Doyle cursed the household that had complained to him that night to the core. In a horror movie, someone like him, a "supporting character" such as a manager or security guard, would never have a good ending.
"If you don't want to die, come and help me, Mr. Doyle! You've already seen the shadow of the devil, do you think you can escape?"
Administrator Doyle shuddered again upon hearing this, gritted his teeth, and wiped away a bead of sweat.
What should I do?
Sora supported Lovett with one hand and held up the necklace with the other.
"Come here, help me hold him steady with your body, then you hold one end of the necklace and I'll hold the other, and put it on him as fast as you can, quick!"
At this point, the administrator, Doyle, who had already gone all out, stopped wasting words.
He stepped forward and helped by using his body to support Lovett's unsteady body, one in front and one behind Sora.
Sora raised her right hand, which was holding the necklace, and bit her wrist hard before letting her hand fall.
Blood flowed down his arm and then along his right hand, gradually spreading across the entire silver necklace.
Seeing the administrator, Doyle, standing there dumbfounded, Sora called out to him in an annoyed tone.
"What are you daydreaming about? Haven't you ever seen suicide before? Help!"
Once he realized what was happening, Doyle didn't ask anything. He held the two ends of the necklace as Sora had instructed, and together with Sora, they stretched the necklace into an almost square shape.
"I'll count to three, then we'll put it on him together!"
Upon seeing Doyle, who was sweating profusely, nod, Sora immediately began the countdown.
"one two three!"
The moment the limbs and hands fell.
"Boom!"
Except for Lovett in the middle who remained still, the two figures were thrown back and forth.
"Bang!"
Sora bumped into the corner of the elevator door.
"Bang!"
Apartment manager Doyle fell to the ground six or seven meters away.
"Ahem... sir... ahem... did we succeed?"
But Sora did not respond.
"Sora? What just happened? Huh?! Sora?"
Lovett regained consciousness this time, only to see the apartment manager, Doyle, and Sora lying there one after the other.
The difference is that Doyle is getting up on his own, while Sora remains motionless.
"Hehe... I didn't expect... that one-in-a-thousand probability event in the book was real... Hehehe... Gotcha!"
Lovett and Doyle vaguely heard Sora say those words weakly.
"Sora, what are you saying?"
Sora held half of a completely black pendant in her hand, with a writhing shadow on it.
He struggled to lift his head, then immediately lowered it again, calling out weakly to the two people not far ahead.
"Run... Lovett... It still wants you... Run..."
Doyle got up from the ground, looked at Lovett's shadow, and found that he had returned to normal.
Lovett also discovered this at the same time.
"What did you say, Sora?"
Sora suddenly raised her head, and the color of one of her eyes changed from blue to deep black, while a faint crimson color began to appear in the lens.
"I said, run!"
The final word "run" was accompanied not only by a tremendous sound, but also by a gust of wind.
Lovett had already realized what was happening; he clenched his fists tightly, unable to move his feet.
It was the apartment manager, Doyle, who realized what was happening.
All those years of reading novels and watching movies weren't for nothing; art imitates life, and he instantly understood the situation.
"Run, Mr. Gerald, hurry, or Mr. Sora's efforts will be in vain!"
Under the relentless dragging of the administrator, Doyle, Lovett finally glanced at "Sola" before running towards the nearby stairs.
In Lovett's last glimpse, Sora's shadow twisted and changed, a bulge began to appear on the top of Sora's head, Sora's suit bulged to the sides, and Sora's face changed color.
Lovett saw an encouraging look in Sora's last remaining blue eye.
This moment is forever etched in Lovett Gerard's mind, heart, and soul.
The building managers, Doyle and Lovett, frantically ran down the stairs.
They did not try to knock on the doors of other residents.
It's not just a matter of not caring about other people's lives.
Instead, apartment buildings like these have more than a dozen units on each floor, and the occupancy rate is close to 100%.
They made quite a racket, especially the roar of "Sola" just now.
But no one from any of the households opened their doors to check on the situation.
This is extremely strange in itself; I hope they're alright!
So now their only thought is to escape this apartment building and get outside.
"Huff... huff... huff... huff..."
"Huff... huff... huff..."
The two ran breathlessly to the lobby on the first floor, and the entrance was just a few dozen meters ahead.
However, the scene outside was somewhat different from what I had imagined.
There were no lights.
Streetlights, landscape lights, car lights... there are no lights at all, except inside the apartment building.
Although all the light bulbs were flickering, at least they weren't out.
