Chapter 7 Luring the Strange Baby to the Door

The kitchen was dark, the lights were off.

Xia Tianqiong quietly crouched in the corner, ready to pounce.

There were three boxes of food next to the gas stove: braised pork, braised pork knuckle, and sweet and sour pork. Although he couldn't see them, the aroma wafted out, making his mouth water.

If it weren't for the need to lure the evil infant, he would have been tempted to eat it.

These three meals were conjured using the sorcery "Netherworld Takeout." The original intention was to prepare more, which would increase the probability of attracting the ghost infant.

However, the delivery ghost was severely injured by the power of the rules and is still somewhat weak. If it consumes too much Netherworld power, it may completely dissipate.

"Xia Tianqiong!"

A woman's voice suddenly came from outside the door, "I am Jiang Yu. They are gone. Please open the door. I have something very important to tell you."

Xia Tianqiong remained motionless, pretending not to hear.

“There’s a professional locksmith in our building. He went to get his tools and he’s coming to open your door in a bit. They’re going to steal your ghost money.”

Jiang Yu's voice continued to come in, but Xia Tianqiong remained unmoved.

The strange infant could teleport over at any moment, so he dared not be careless.

There was a moment of silence outside the door, then the tone suddenly turned mournful, "Tianqiong, we've been neighbors for so long, and I often ask you to fix the pipes and change the light bulbs. Actually, I often break things on purpose, just to spend more time with you. I think... I've fallen for you."

I feel like you're interested in me too, but for some reason, you've been pretending not to notice.

We might both die here, but I want to tell you that if we survive, I want to be with you.

These words were spoken with such sincerity that even Xia Tianqiong's cold heart was touched.

Suddenly, I remembered my previous life.

There was some affection between the two, but Jiang Yu became a ghost hunter in the early stages of the strange occurrences, and as the gap between their statuses widened, this affection gradually disappeared.

But regardless, Jiang Yu had helped him through the dangerous early stages of the apocalypse and provided him with protection.

Given this favor, we should logically help them out.

However, according to the Mother of Demons' rules of death, only one person can survive at most.

After all, there is only one ghost baby; whoever finds it lives, and everyone else dies.

Then I can only apologize to her!

Just as my thoughts were in turmoil, there was a clinking sound—the sound of a glass being knocked over.

Immediately afterwards, a soft chewing sound could be heard.

The kitchen was pitch black, and nothing could be seen, but Xia Tianqiong knew, "The ghost baby has arrived!"

His heart pounded, and after waiting two seconds, he lunged forward.

She was right next to the gas stove, only two steps away. She opened her arms and hugged the source of the sound.

Sure enough, when his arm touched the fleshy thing, he immediately hugged it.

"You little brat, I finally caught you!"

Xia Tianqiong clung tightly to the strange infant, afraid that it would teleport away.

The baby immediately began to cry and struggle desperately with its tiny hands and feet, but it was very weak.

About half a minute later, Xia Tianqiong finally felt relieved. "It seems that as long as I catch it, it won't be able to teleport."

Jiang Yu, who had not received a response from outside the door, grew increasingly pale.

She never expected Xia Tianqiong to be so heartless, showing absolutely no affection.

“He seems to have caught the ghost child. I’ll open the door and we’ll snatch the ghost child away.”

The thin man pushed Jiang Yu aside and prepared to forcefully pry open the door with his tools.

In fact, when Jiang Yu overheard their conversation, she threatened them, saying that if they managed to steal the ghost money, they should also give her a share, otherwise she would tell all the survivors in the building.

The two had no choice but to agree.

To avoid attracting attention with the sound of prying at the door, they decided to try tricking Xia Tianqiong into opening it first, and if that didn't work, they would try to pry it open.

Unexpectedly, Xia Tianqiong did not respond at all, and the sound of a baby crying could be heard from inside.

All three of them were getting a little anxious.

Inside the room, Xia Tianqiong held the ghost infant in her right arm and a box of sweet and sour pork in her left hand.

Only in this way can the baby obediently eat in his arms; otherwise, it will cry and fuss, which is particularly annoying.

I had just turned on the living room light when I heard a snapping sound of metal breaking. Turning around, I saw that the lock cylinder of the door had been broken from the outside.

The door opened, and three people barged in one after another.

"Is this a ghost child?"

The burly man stared at the child in Xia Tianqiong's arms; the child looked like a normal human baby no matter how you looked at it.

"Time is running out, grab the child first," the thin man urged.

Xia Tianqiong stood calmly in the center of the living room.

Instead of showing any panic, the burly man hesitated.

He didn't rush to attack, but brandished the kitchen knife a couple of times, saying, "Hand over the child and the ghost money, give me everything, or my kitchen knife is blind and might accidentally cut off your hands or feet, don't blame me."

"So you're in cahoots with them!"

Xia Tianqiong ignored the burly man, glanced past the two people in front of her, and looked at Jiang Yu.

Jiang Yu's eyes were filled with panic, and she lowered her head slightly, not daring to meet his gaze.

But soon she complained with dissatisfaction, "You clearly had a solution, but you didn't help me. You can't blame me for that."

The burly man got angry when Xia Tianqiong didn't even look at him. "Stop pretending! I'm talking to you!"

The thin young man, with a cold gaze, threatened from the side: "Hand over the ghost child and the ghost money, and we won't do anything to you. Otherwise, we'll kill you before the female ghost even comes looking for you."

"You want to kill me?" Xia Tianqiong sneered. "Then why don't you do it!"

"Damn it, do you think I wouldn't dare touch you?"

The burly man cursed angrily and charged forward, wielding a kitchen knife.

But then Xia Tianqiong revealed a strange smile, and suddenly his mouth split open, stretching all the way to behind his ears, revealing a mouth full of long, thin teeth.
