Chapter 91
Lu Huaying descended the mountain covered in rashes.
Pedestrians on the roadside were terrified when they saw her face covered in red spots, and avoided her like the plague.
Lu Huaying, perched on Wei Mingsu's back, laughed and said, "If I had known that having rashes on my face could scare people away, I should have gotten them sooner. Maybe I could have shaken off my older brother's men."
Wei Mingsu frowned slightly, stopped, put Lu Huaying down, took out a black gauze from his bundle, and told Lu Huaying to put it on to cover her entire face.
"You think I'm scary?"
Lu Huaying snorted coldly.
She blinked, refusing to wear the veil, and questioned Wei Mingsu, "Didn't you say I wasn't scary? So you were just trying to fool me."
Wei Mingsu held the soap gauze, looked at her, and explained, "It's getting windy. Your rash can't be exposed to the wind; it will make it even more uncomfortable. Wearing this will protect you from the wind."
As he spoke, he opened the soap veil and helped her put it on.
"Third Sister, are you feeling unwell again?"
He asked in a low voice.
Lu Huaying was taken aback.
The rash was not only frightening to look at, but it was also itchy, an itch that seemed to come from deep within her bones, and no amount of scratching could relieve it. She spoke of it as easy, but she was actually feeling terrible all over and couldn't sleep at night.
Lu Yujin, the eldest brother, once said to Lu Huaying with disdain that she had never suffered hardship. After leaving the Lu family, she would lose her life of luxury and would have to obediently return home in less than three months. No matter how willful she was, it would all be in vain.
Lu Huaying didn't want to admit defeat, and she didn't want to appear too delicate. She wanted to persevere, so she endured the discomfort.
She didn't tell Wei Mingsu that she was feeling unwell.
How did he figure that out?
He's usually quiet, cold, and indifferent, like a block of wood, but I never imagined he was so thoughtful.
Lu Huaying was lost in thought when Wei Mingsu suddenly leaned down and pressed her hand down.
The young man in the old robe lowered his eyes and said softly, "You're scratching again. Bear with it, the more you scratch, the itchier it gets."
Lu Huaying came to her senses and realized that whenever she felt uncomfortable, she would unconsciously raise her hand to scratch the rashes.
She withdrew her hand and obediently put on the veil.
Wei Mingsu carried her on his back again.
After descending the mountain, Wei Mingsu took Lu Huaying to a pharmacy to get medicine. The doctors in this remote village had never seen her with such symptoms before. Some said she had chickenpox, some said she had eaten something bad, and others said she had been poisoned.
She applied some anti-itch medication, but the flare-up at night was still very uncomfortable. She also felt drowsy and lethargic, and couldn't eat anything, perhaps because she had caught a cold again.
Feeling unwell naturally puts her in a bad mood, and Lu Huaying couldn't help but lash out at Wei Mingsu, who was taking care of her. He asked her where she felt unwell, but she turned away and ignored him. He tried to persuade her to eat something, but she told him to shut up. He offered her some water, but she pushed it away.
The water in the bowl spilled all over Wei Mingsu. He glanced at Lu Huaying, put down the bowl, picked up his bundle, and went out.
As Lu Huaying searched through the luggage, she discovered that Wei Mingsu's luggage was missing. She paused for a moment, then sat up and looked around. His luggage was indeed gone.
These past few days, Wei Mingsu has been taking care of her tirelessly and without complaint, but she has been arrogant. He couldn't stand her anymore and abandoned her.
Lu Huaying's heart
Feeling utterly empty and increasingly dejected, I wiped my face with a soap veil, gritted my teeth, and secretly vowed that I would go to Xizhou by myself!
Just as he was secretly angry, footsteps came from the doorway, and Wei Mingsu returned carrying a bundle.
His clothes were soaked, so he went out and changed into an old robe.
Lu Huaying realized what was happening, chuckled to herself for overthinking, and lay down as if nothing had happened.
Wei Mingsu poured her another bowl of water, his expression gentle, and patiently urged her to drink some.
Lu Huaying took the bowl, drank the water, and lay down to rest for a while. Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen and remembered something, which immediately gave her a headache.
"My burden."
She called out.
Wei Mingsu took her bundle and asked her what she was looking for.
Lu Huaying remained silent, searched four times, then glanced awkwardly at Wei Mingsu, and then at the door.
They were in a remote, unfamiliar place.
They settled down in the village.
Lu Huaying searched through her bundle again, her face slightly flushed. She wasn't afraid of hardship or trekking through mountains and rivers... but she hadn't considered what to do in such an embarrassing situation.
Her expression grew increasingly troubled.
Wei Mingsu asked, "Third Sister, is something aching inside you?"
Lu Huaying clutched her lower abdomen: "My stomach hurts."
Not only does my stomach hurt, but my head also hurts.
Wei Mingsu said, "You lie down and rest, I'll go and prepare the medicine."
Lu Huaying grabbed his sleeve and asked, steeling herself, "Can we buy cloth in the village? We need clean, new cloth."
She had been cared for by maids and servants since childhood and didn't have to worry about anything. This was the first time she had been away from home for so many days. All she remembered was to bring more gold ingots and didn't care about anything else. The cloth she had brought with her had already run out.
Wei Mingsu looked puzzled: "Buy cloth?"
Lu Huaying nodded weakly: "I need it now. Take the gold ingots and buy me a few feet."
Wei Mingsu looked at her.
Lu Huaying's face turned even redder: "You hurry..."
Just as she was about to urge him forcefully, Wei Mingsu glanced at her lower abdomen, which she was clutching, and without asking any further questions, turned and walked out.
"Wait a minute, I'll go ask."
Lu Huaying watched his figure disappear.
Did he understand it or not?
You probably don't understand, right?
Whether he understands it or not, as long as he can buy the fabric, that's fine.
Lu Huaying waited for a while, and then Wei Mingsu returned with two pieces of cloth he had bought from the estate.
The village was too small, and the families in the mountains didn't have any new cloth. He asked around for a long time but only managed to buy two pieces that were reasonably clean.
Lu Huaying took the cloth, chased Wei Mingsu out, found the needle and thread in his luggage and sewed it herself. She spent a long time mending it, but the cloth was still not sewn up properly.
Just when she was at her wit's end, Wei Mingsu knocked on the door and came in. He placed a clean cloth by the bed and left without saying a word.
Lu Huaying paused for a moment, picked up the clean cloth, and her head started to ache even more.
