Chapter 383 I Just Want to Carry You Away

Chapter 383 I Just Want to Carry You Away

Cui Xiao stared at him without saying a word.

Zhou Mubin wasn't angry. He gripped the steering wheel with one hand and casually said, "Since you can't choose, then I'll choose. Go to hell..."

Before he could finish speaking, Cui Xiao interrupted him, "Go to the hospital."

Zhou Mubin smiled faintly and remained silent, then started the car and drove to the hospital.

As soon as the car came to a stop in front of the emergency building, Zhou Mubin, without waiting for Cui Xiao to react, unbuckled his seatbelt, went around to the passenger side, and yanked open the car door.

Cui Xiao subconsciously shrank back into her seat, her face flushed an unnatural red from the high fever, but her eyes still held a wary look. "I can walk by myself."

Zhou Mubin chuckled softly, his tone carrying an undeniable force, "But I just want to carry you away, what can I do?" Before he finished speaking, he bent down and scooped Cui Xiao up in his arms.

The sudden feeling of weightlessness made Cui Xiao gasp. She instinctively grabbed Zhou Mubin's collar, her fingertips turning white from the force. "I told you, I can walk by myself."

"Don't move."

Zhou Mubin's voice deepened, and he tightened his grip on her arms, saying, "If you fall, you'll be the one who gets hurt."

The weakness brought on by the high fever made her increasingly weak, and she could only let Zhou Mubin carry her into the emergency building.

Cui Xiao looked at his profile, which was so close to hers, and saw that his already sculpted features seemed even more defined. Upon closer inspection, she noticed that he appeared to have lost a lot of weight.

She looked away, inhaling his unique scent, mixed with the smell of hospital disinfectant, which made her dizziness worse.

Zhou Mubin arranged everything for Cui Xiao, from registration and consultation to blood draw, without even giving her a chance to speak.

When it was the doctor's turn to take Cui Xiao's temperature, the thermometer showed 39.5℃. The doctor frowned and said, "With such a high fever, what kind of boyfriend are you? Why did you only bring her here now?"

Upon hearing this, Zhou Mubin showed no displeasure whatsoever; on the contrary, his face softened after the scolding.

Cui Xiao's first instinct was to explain, "There's a mistake, he's not me..."

Zhou Mubin didn't give her a chance to continue speaking, and ruffled her hair to respond, "It's my fault for being a bad boyfriend. I won't do it again next time."

Hearing his good attitude, the doctor didn't say anything more. "Alright, give him a fever-reducing injection first, then hang two IV drips."

When Cui Xiao heard the word "injection," her body stiffened instinctively.

Zhou Mubin keenly sensed her nervousness, reached out and pressed her shoulder, his tone reassuring, "Don't be afraid, I'm here."

When the nurse came over with the syringe, Cui Xiao kept her eyes tightly closed and her body trembled uncontrollably.

Upon seeing this, Zhou Mubin immediately reached out and covered her eyes. The warmth of his palm penetrated through her thin skin, carrying a strange soothing power.

The moment the needle pierced her skin, Cui Xiao couldn't help but let out a muffled groan and subconsciously moved closer to Zhou Mubin.

Zhou Mubin sensed her dependence, and a subtle smile appeared on his lips. He gently patted her back with his other hand, the gesture carrying a tenderness he himself was unaware of.

While receiving the IV drip, Cui Xiao leaned against the chair in the infusion room, her consciousness gradually fading.

In her hazy state, she felt someone place a wet towel on her forehead; the cool touch made her groan comfortably.

She opened her eyes and saw Zhou Mubin sitting next to her, holding a towel in his hand, looking at her intently.

Seeing that she was awake, Zhou Mubin said in a flat tone, "The fever hasn't gone down yet, applying a wet towel will make you feel a little more comfortable."

Cui Xiao turned her face away, her voice hoarse, "I don't need your fake kindness."

She knew Zhou Mubin's personality well; his gentleness always came with an ulterior motive, like a gentle net trying to trap her firmly.

Zhou Mubin seemed not to hear her refusal, and continued to gently wipe her cheeks with a towel, his movements patient and meticulous.

After a few seconds, he chuckled softly, leaned close to her ear, and said in a voice with a hint of danger, "Even if it's fake kindness, you can only take it for now."

Cui Xiao had a cold face.

Zhou Mubin, however, was smiling.

As night fell, the ward was extremely quiet.

The IV fluid dripped slowly down the tube, and Cui Xiao's consciousness was repeatedly pulled between lucidity and confusion.

The fatigue from the high fever made her eyelids heavy, but the intense pressure emanating from Zhou Mubin prevented her from completely relaxing.

She secretly glanced at the man beside her. He was looking down at his phone, his fingers swiping rapidly across the screen, seemingly dealing with something. His profile was cold and hard, and he showed no sign of leaving.

After some time, the nurse came to remove the needle and reminded me, "After the needle is removed, press for five minutes and observe for half an hour. If there are no problems, you can leave."

Zhou Mubin immediately put down his phone, took the cotton swab handed to him by the nurse, and pressed it onto the injection site on Cui Xiao's hand without saying a word. The pressure was just right to stop the bleeding.

Cui Xiao wanted to do it herself, but he pressed her hand down as soon as she raised it. "Don't move, you'll bruise yourself if you don't press properly."

His tone remained forceful, brooking no argument.

While pressing the button, Cui Xiao took the opportunity to reach into her pocket, wanting to take out her phone to check for work messages, only to find that her pocket was empty.

She looked up abruptly at Zhou Mubin, her voice tinged with urgency, "Where's my phone?"

Zhou Mubin looked up at her, his eyes calm and unwavering, as if he had expected her to ask. "I put it away for you because I was afraid of disturbing your rest."

As he spoke, he took her phone out of his coat pocket, but instead of returning it to her immediately, he casually placed it on his lap. "I'll give it back to you when you feel better. You need to rest now."

Seeing this, Cui Xiao reached out to snatch it, but Zhou Mubin easily grabbed her wrist.

His fingers tightened, and his tone turned colder. "I'm just keeping it for you, I didn't say I wouldn't return it. What, is there some important news? Mo Ziqian's?"

His gaze was scrutinizing, as if he could see through her thoughts, which made Cui Xiao feel flustered.

Seeing that he didn't speak, Zhou Mubin's knuckles tightened slightly, and his scrutiny intensified, but his tone carried a hint of casual mockery, "It seems that your relationship with Mo Ziqian is developing very quickly. You've completely fallen in love with him?"

He unconsciously rubbed his thumb against the delicate skin on Cui Xiao's wrist, the touch making his eyes darken. "Cui Xiao, you haven't taken a single word I said to heart."

She frowned, instantly pursed her lips, and tried to pull her hand back forcefully.

But Zhou Mubin's strength was astonishing. No matter how much she struggled, her wrists wouldn't budge. Instead, they were gripped even tighter, and red marks gradually appeared on her skin.

Zhou Mubin chuckled softly, leaning closer to her. His warm breath brushed against her earlobe, carrying a hint of danger. "Why aren't you saying anything? Did I hit the nail on the head?"

He paused, his gaze sweeping over her tense profile, his tone growing even more somber, "Cui Xiao, you've been trying to push my limits. You've forced me into this."
