Chapter 453 I Have Something to Say to Miss Cui

Xie Nanzhi and Xibei exchanged a glance, both seeing shock and helplessness in each other's eyes.

Their friendship with Zhou Mubin was like that of naked dolls. Over the years, he has had one woman after another, but none of them could make him go to this extent.

They understood Cui Xiao's grievances and knew that there was an insurmountable gap between them, so they didn't know how to comfort her for a moment.

The three of them stood silently outside the emergency room, as time ticked by. The clock on the wall ticked away, each tick like a blow to their hearts. The red "Operation in Progress" indicator light remained lit, like a heavy stone pressing down on them, making it hard to breathe.

I don't know how much time passed, maybe an hour, maybe two hours, but the glaring red light above the emergency room door finally went out with a "click".

Cui Xiao stood up abruptly as if she had been scalded. Because she had been squatting in the cold corner for too long, her legs went numb and her body swayed uncontrollably. Fortunately, Xi Bei caught her arm in time and prevented her from falling.

Soon, the emergency room door was pushed open, and the surgeon came out wearing surgical scrubs stained with light blood. He took off his mask, revealing a face that was full of fatigue but also had a noticeably relaxed expression.

The surgeon raised a hand to rub his temples and called out towards the waiting area, "Are the patient's family members here?"

Cui Xiao immediately broke free from Xi Bei's support and strode forward, her voice still hoarse but filled with urgency, "I'm here, doctor, how is he?"

Looking at her pale face and reddened eyes, the doctor softened his tone, "The surgery was successful. The dagger was inserted a little off-center and didn't hit any vital organs, but she lost a lot of blood. She has already received a blood transfusion and is out of danger now. As long as she rests well and changes her dressings on time, she will recover quickly. Don't worry too much."

"That's great! That's really great!" Xibei slapped her thigh excitedly, her tense body instantly relaxing, a smile of relief spreading across her face, and the cold sweat on her forehead finally slowly subsiding.

Xie Nanzhi also breathed a sigh of relief, reached out and patted Cui Xiao's shoulder, her tone full of relief, "I can finally relax, I was so scared."

Cui Xiao stood there, watching the nurse behind the doctor slowly push the hospital bed out. Zhou Mubin lay on it, his face still as pale as a sheet of paper, his lips without any color. He was covered with a white blanket, and his chest was slightly bulging, obviously his wounds had been bandaged.

But his breathing was steady, his chest rising and falling rhythmically. At that moment, Cui Xiao's heart, which had been hanging in suspense for so long, finally settled down, and tears welled up uncontrollably once again. This time, it was no longer fear and guilt, but pure relief at surviving a disaster.

Zhou Mubin was ushered into the VIP ward on the top floor. The ward was spacious and bright, decorated in a warm and comfortable style, with a wide view of the city outside the window.

Cui Xiao stayed by the bedside the whole time, pulled up a chair and sat down, her eyes fixed on the back of Zhou Mubin's hand receiving the IV drip.

The hand had distinct knuckles, but now it looked somewhat withered due to blood loss, and the bluish veins were clearly visible.

Her fingertips twitched slightly, and an urge to touch him welled up inside her. But she stopped halfway through raising her hand and gently withdrew it. She simply watched quietly as the transparent medicine dripped down the IV tube and into his body.

Xie Nanzhi and Xi Bei helped tidy up the supplies brought by the nurse, folded Zhou Mubin's coat and put it in the wardrobe, and poured a glass of warm water and placed it on the bedside table.

Just as I finished my work, I heard steady footsteps coming from the ward door, accompanied by the soft sound of the door being pushed open.

The two turned around and saw that it was Zhou Mubin's mother.

She was wearing a well-tailored cheongsam, her hair was neatly combed, and her face was somewhat solemn. Li Sheng, who was following behind her, was carrying an exquisite thermos, obviously having just come from home.

As soon as Zhou's mother entered the ward, her gaze immediately fell on Zhou Mubin on the hospital bed. She subconsciously quickened her pace and hurried to the bedside.

She leaned down slightly, carefully examined Zhou Mubin's face, and checked his breathing. Only after confirming that his breathing was steady did her tense shoulders relax a little.

She straightened up, turned around, and her gaze fell on Cui Xiao. Her gaze was calm but carried a kind of authority unique to those in a superior position. There was no obvious anger, but it made people feel nervous involuntarily.

She nodded slightly to Xie Nanzhi and Xibei, her tone calm yet carrying an undeniable authority, "Nanzhi, Xibei, please step out for a moment. I have a few words I'd like to say to Miss Cui alone."

Xie Nanzhi and Xibei exchanged a glance, both seeing worry in each other's eyes.

They glanced at Cui Xiao again, and seeing that although her face was still pale, she nodded slightly, they didn't say anything more. They tiptoed out of the ward, closing the door behind them and leaving the ward to the two of them.

The ward fell silent instantly, with only Zhou Mubin's steady breathing and the dripping sound of the IV fluid.

Sunlight streamed through the window, casting warm dappled patterns on the floor, but it couldn't dispel the somber atmosphere in the air.

Zhou's mother walked to the sofa against the wall and sat down. Her movements were elegant and composed, and she maintained good manners even in this situation.

She gestured to the single sofa opposite her, her tone softening slightly, "Ms. Cui, please have a seat."

Cui Xiao hesitated for a good three or four seconds, her hands unconsciously twisting the hem of her clothes repeatedly at her sides, the fabric wrinkled from being gripped so tightly that her fingertips were covered in red marks.

She took a deep breath, as if gathering all her courage, and slowly moved to sit down on the sofa, her back straight and her shoulder blades slightly tucked in.

She had barely settled down and hadn't even had time to catch her breath when she clearly felt a gaze fall upon her.

That was Zhou's mother's gaze, calm without a ripple, yet possessing a penetrating power that saw through everything.

The brush swept across the wisps of hair clinging to her forehead, damp with tears, past the bluish tear stains under her eyes, her pale, chapped lips, and then to the still-dry, light brown bloodstains on her cuffs, finally settling firmly on her tightly clenched hands, her knuckles white.

Zhou's mother's gaze wasn't sharp, but it was like a slow-motion shot, scrutinizing everything from beginning to end. Every time she stopped at a spot, Cui Xiao's heart involuntarily quickened its pace.

Every muscle in my body tensed up unconsciously, and I even breathed very lightly, as if afraid of disturbing the suffocating silence.

Zhou's mother broke the silence in the ward first. Her voice was not loud, but it had a calming quality that could soothe people's hearts. "Miss Cui, don't be nervous."
