Chapter 9 Pei Jingchuan, this is what I'm returning to you.

Chapter 9 Pei Jingchuan, this is what I'm returning to you.

Xie Xiyan covered her slapped face, utterly terrified. "Nanzhi, what... what are you going to do?"

This time, Xie Xiyan's panic and fear were genuine; she was truly terrified. The Xie Nanzhi of the past was always a spineless coward who let Xie Xiyan manipulate her at will. What had happened to Xie Xiyan today?

She's really gone mad.

Xie Nanzhi remained silent and proceeded according to her plan.

She accurately grabbed the vase from the screen stand and, without the slightest hesitation, smashed it in the direction of Xie Xiyan's voice.

There was another loud "bang".

Xie Xiyan screamed in pain, never expecting that Xie Nanzhi would dare to hit her with a vase after slapping her.

Xie Xiyan was unable to dodge in time and was hit hard on the forehead, causing blood to splatter everywhere.

When Pei Jingchuan came to his senses, Xie Nanzhi was still waving the broken half of the vase at Xie Xiyan.

Just as the sharp shards were about to pierce Xie Xiyan, Xie Nanzhi's wrist was grabbed, and at the same time, she was slapped hard across the face.

Pei Jingchuan's eyes blazed with fury as he growled, "Xie Nanzhi, I asked you to come and apologize, and this is how you apologize? Or did you never intend to truly apologize from the moment you decided to come?"

The words had barely left his mouth when he received no response.

Xie Nanzhi didn't even flinch; she slapped him back across the face.

Caught off guard, Pei Jingchuan stared in astonishment at the woman before him.

Then, he got slapped on the other side of his face.

Pei Jingchuan's eyes were practically spitting fire; he was so angry he wanted to kill someone. "You, Xie Nanzhi."

Xie Nanzhi put all her strength into it, and her palms went numb from hitting them.

With a cool and aloof expression and eyes as cold as autumn water, she parted her thin lips slightly, "Pei Jingchuan, this is to return to you."

Yesterday's slap and today's slap—she returned the favor twice, which is only right.

Pei Jingchuan's pupils dilated. He wasn't sure if it was just his imagination, but he felt that the woman in front of him was different.

He had thought he could easily control the woman, but suddenly he couldn't see through her anymore.

This feeling of losing control was unpleasant. Pei Jingchuan was about to question her when Xie Xiyan's weak cry brought him back to reality.

"Jingchuan, it hurts."

Pei Jingchuan had no choice but to refocus his attention on Xie Xiyan, whose forehead was bleeding profusely. Startled, he picked up the woman from the pool of blood without a word and rushed out.

However, as he brushed past Xie Nanzhi, Pei Jingchuan paused, his brows furrowed as he stared at the woman beside him, coldly uttering two words.

"Call the police."

Upon hearing those two words, Xie Nanzhi clenched her hands tightly, and blood seeped from the creases of her palms, which had just been cut by the sharp blade.

Drops of blood stained the hem of her pure white dress.

But this was exactly what she expected, wasn't it?

She made this plan precisely because she knew him well enough.

Half a second later, the servant understood.

He immediately dialed the police.

Xie Nanzhi was arrested for intentional assault, with conclusive evidence.

Inside the interrogation room.

"Name."

"Xie Nanzhi".

"gender."

"female."

"age."

"Twenty-five."

The police officer in charge of the case looked at Xie Nanzhi's file and whispered something to his colleague beside him.

After a while, he continued, "You didn't graduate from university, just because you were in a rush to get married?"

In the pitch-black expanse, there was no end to the darkness.

The year of the car accident, Xie Nanzhi was a junior in college. With a bright future ahead of her, she became a blind person who could no longer see the vibrant colors.

Xie Nanzhi still remembers that less than a month after the car accident, her painting, which was to be submitted for the competition, disappeared, while Xie Xiyan won first prize in that competition.

She later learned that Xie Xiyan had submitted her work to the competition. Xie Nanzhi wanted an explanation, but Madam Xie berated her like a madwoman.

"You stole eighteen years of Xiyan's life. What's wrong with taking one of your paintings? Besides, you'll be blind from now on. You can forget about painting for the rest of your life. It's an honor to have your painting submitted for the competition. Don't be ungrateful."

The next day, Mrs. Xie went to the Hong Kong Academy of Fine Arts to help her withdraw from the program.

Just one year away, she was just one year away from graduating smoothly...

Xie Nanzhi took a deep breath, biting her lower lip tightly, her body trembling slightly.

Then the other person's tone turned stern, "Xie Nanzhi, answer the question."

After a moment, Xie Nanzhi raised her eyes, her deep gaze revealing an unspeakable determination. "I have the right not to answer any questions until my lawyer arrives."

Two hours later, Xie Nanzhi left the police station without incident.

She stood at the doorway, listening to Zhou Mubin chat with the police officer in charge of the case. The two exchanged pleasantries and said a few words before Zhou Mubin prepared to leave.

The two walked out one after the other, and as soon as they stepped out of the police station, Zhou Mubin lost his temper.

"Xie Nanzhi, you stop right there."

Xie Nanzhi stopped in her tracks, and Zhou Mubin strode forward angrily, his anger flaring up. "Xie Nanzhi, if you hadn't been arrested today, how long were you planning to keep this from me?"

Xie Nanzhi's face was pale, her ashen complexion conveying a sense of helplessness. "I didn't mean to hide it from you."

Zhou Mubin was furious. "Ha, you didn't intend to keep it from me? Xie Nanzhi, you're really something. So many things happened, and you told Xibei, but not me. You don't consider me a brother at all."

She, Xibei, and Zhou Mubin were childhood friends. Xibei is a top talent in medicine and is now conducting scientific research abroad.

Zhou Mubin became a lawyer, one of the top lawyers in Hong Kong and even throughout China, with his legal fees calculated by the second.

Come to think of it, she seems to be the only one who's holding us back.

Xie Nanzhi smirked, "How could that be? I have to cling to Attorney Zhou's coattails; you can't shake him off even if you want to."

Zhou Mubin stared at her for a few seconds, then pulled her into his arms and said softly, "Okay, I'll forgive you this time. Also, don't force yourself to smile when you're sad, it looks ugly."

The gentle tone brought Xie Nanzhi a long-lost warmth.

Zhou Mubin added, "If you want to cry, then cry. I won't laugh at you."

The tears she had been holding back could no longer be held back and streamed down her face.

This was the first time Xie Nanzhi had cried out loud without restraint after learning the truth; her suppressed emotions finally found an outlet.

I've cried enough, I'm tired of crying.

Xie Nanzhi got into the car, and Zhou Mubin handed her a tissue. Remembering that man, a sharp glint appeared in his eyes. "Nanzhi, what do you plan to do with this adulterous couple?"

Xie Nanzhi's silence does not mean she has no thoughts.

After calming down, Xie Nanzhi recounted, "The car accident back then was orchestrated by Xie Xiyan. I've already paid people to find eyewitnesses. Also, Pei Jingchuan and the hospital doctors colluded to steal my corneas. As long as they do that, they'll definitely find some clues. I want them to be punished by law."

I was angry, but I was also genuinely heartbroken.

They were best friends, and Zhou Mubin couldn't bear to blame her any longer. He paused and asked, "So, what about the baby in your belly? You plan to... give birth to it?"
