Chapter 16 "Come pick up my wife from get off work".

Upon arriving at the law firm, Xu Wan invited Yu Shuangshuang to sit down, poured her a glass of water, and said earnestly, "Shuangshuang, please tell me what's wrong. I will do my best to help you as long as I can."

During her most difficult time, Yu Shuangshuang was the only friend who did not abandon her.

These seemingly casual words, however, were like a torrent, instantly breaking through Yu Shuangshuang's defenses.

Tears welled up instantly.

Xu Wan quickly grabbed two tissues from the side and handed them to her without urging her.

Yu Shuangshuang cried for about ten minutes before gradually stopping her tears and said to Xu Wan, "Wanwan, I've been lied to by my husband."

“Tell me slowly,” Xu Wan said.

“We haven’t slept together since I got pregnant. He said it was because he felt sorry for me and thought I was going through a tough pregnancy. He has a good friend, and the two of them are often together. I didn’t think much of it until that day when I took my daughter home early and found the two of them actually…”

Yu Shuangshuang suddenly couldn't continue speaking at this point.

However, Xu Wan already understood.

Same-sex wife.

In the year or so she has been working, she has seen many such cases.

"How old is the child?" Xu Wan asked professionally.

"Two years and three months old."

"According to the Marriage Law, children under the age of two are automatically raised by their mothers; for children over the age of two, other conditions must be considered."

Xu Wan then asked Yu Shuangshuang for more information.

Yu Shuangshuang is currently a full-time stay-at-home mom, spending most of her time at her parents' house. Her child is also currently staying with her parents. She has some savings, but no income at the moment.

On the contrary, her husband is a civil servant with a stable income.

"It seems unlikely that you will be awarded custody of the child if the case goes to court."

"But he's gay!"

“Same-sex marriage fraud may affect the verdict, but it won’t carry much weight.”

"Wanwan, you have to help me." Yu Shuangshuang grabbed Xu Wan's hand and begged her, "My daughter is my everything. My husband married me just to have this child to shut his parents up. I can't let him have his way."

Xu Wan thought for a while and said, "How about this, tomorrow is the weekend, I'll go to my hometown to meet your husband and see if there are any other breakthroughs."

Yu Shuangshuang nodded: "Okay, okay, I'll arrange for you to meet then."

After seeing Yu Shuangshuang off, Xu Wan continued working.

She had originally planned to work overtime on the weekend, but now she has to go to her hometown to help out, so she can only work overtime today.

She habitually works until 10 p.m.

I packed up my laptop, grabbed my bag, and got ready to catch the last subway.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn't cooperating.

When I got downstairs, I realized that it had started to drizzle.

Xu Wan carefully clutched the bag containing her laptop to her chest, just as she was thinking about how to rush to the subway station, when someone called her name, "Xu Wan."

Xu Wan looked in the direction of the sound.

A black sedan was parked a few meters away on the roadside. The driver had already gotten out of the car and was walking towards her, holding a black umbrella.

The warm orange light from the streetlights fell from above, mostly blocked by umbrellas.

Even so, it was enough to see the man's facial features clearly.

"Jiang Tingzhou?" Xu Wan paused for two seconds, then asked dryly, "What are you doing here?"

"Come pick up my wife from get off work."

Jiang Tingzhou held the umbrella over the woman's head.

Xu has been working late for a year, and working overtime until 10 p.m. is a regular occurrence for her.

Whether it rains or snows at night, she always walks alone to the subway station to take the subway.

She never dared to imagine that one day someone would come to pick her up from get off work.

Xu Wan's eyes welled up with tears, and she apologized, "I'm sorry, I forgot I had moved."

"It's alright, get in the car first."

As Jiang Tingzhou spoke, he didn't forget to move the umbrella a little closer to the woman, completely unconcerned that raindrops were dripping onto his expensive suit.

As Xu Wan sat in the passenger seat and bent down to pull her seatbelt, she suddenly thought of something.

She looked at the man beside her and asked cautiously, "You haven't been waiting since evening, have you?"
