Xu Wan didn't know how much money Ma Jun and Xu Pingshan had made from their business over the years. She was just happy that her aunt's life had improved and that she could bring her grandmother to live with her in her old age.
She didn't want to compare herself to Jiang Tingzhou because she felt ashamed, as Ma Jun was saying such things now.
“Uncle, since you don’t like the gift my husband chose, I’ll take this box of cigars back.” Xu Wan reached out and picked up the cigar box from the side. “If my husband gives it to someone else, they will at least say thank you.”
Ma Jun knew the value of that box of cigars!
His face turned green with anger. "You took back something you gave away as a gift?"
"I could tell from your reaction just now that you don't like this gift. Since you don't like it, keeping it here will only make you unhappy. I think it's more appropriate to take it back."
Xu Wan showed no sign of anger when she spoke; it was more like she was calmly reasoning with him.
Ma Jun's attitude was so obvious just now, so it's even less likely that he would say he likes her now.
Ma Xiaolin, standing to the side, had a gloating smile on her face.
When things reached a stalemate, Xu Pingshan quickly said, "Alright, let's eat."
"good."
Xu Wan verbally agreed, but didn't forget to stuff the cigar in her hand into her bag.
Fortunately, it was Friday, and she had brought a large work bag, so the cigars could barely fit inside, though most of them were still sticking out.
Ma Jun glanced at the exposed cigar box, then angrily turned and walked towards the restaurant.
Grandma took her seat first.
After her grandmother was seated, Ma Xiaolin immediately pulled up a chair and sat down, then patted the chair next to her, saying, "Cousin, sit next to me!"
"good."
Xu Wan walked over.
Ma Jun no longer wanted to speak.
Xu Wan didn't know if it was because she had just offended Ma Jun, but Ma Jun hardly spoke during the whole meal. Apart from eating, he spent most of the time looking at and sending messages on his phone.
Although Ma Xiaolin had never met her maternal grandmother before, she had a very good relationship with her.
Every time the nanny brought out a new dish, she would take the first bite and then put it into her grandmother's bowl.
After finishing the meal, Xu Wan knew that her grandmother was doing well here, and she was completely relieved.
After dinner, Ma Jun took his phone and went upstairs.
Looking at her father's retreating figure, Ma Xiaolin said unhappily, "How annoying! He acts like an emperor, leaving right after finishing his meal."
"Alright, your dad's busy with work."
Xu Pingshan advised her daughter.
Ma Xiaolin pouted, "You and my dad manage roughly the same things at the company. I've never seen you as busy as him. He's the only one who's busy. I think he just doesn't want to work!"
Xu Pingshan's family only has one nanny.
The nanny efficiently cleared the table of dishes and put them in the dishwasher before taking out a bag of trash.
"I'll go," Xu Pingshan said, taking the trash bag from her.
Upon seeing this, Xu Wan quickly stood up and said, "Auntie, let me do it. Just tell me where the trash can is, and I can go there myself."
"Need not."
"I'll do it, I'll do it right after I finish eating and then exercise a bit."
Xu Wan felt embarrassed to just be a guest here, so she did some simple things within her ability to make herself feel more at ease.
Xu Pingshan couldn't refuse her, so she handed her the trash bag and said, "Come on, I'll show you where the trash cans are in the community when we get to the gate."
The two walked together to the villa's entrance.
Xu Pingrong stood at an intersection and gave her a simple direction.
Xu Wan carried the trash bag alone and walked towards the community's trash cans.
The villa complex where Xu Pingshan lives has a high plot ratio, with each household having its own independent space. A main road extends from one house to the next, and you have to walk a long way to see another one.
Xu Wan quickly found a trash can, threw away the trash, and walked back.
She had only taken a few steps when she encountered a female resident who was out at night.
The lights weren't bright that night. The female resident stared at her for a long time before suddenly raising her voice and saying, "Xu Wan! What are you doing here!"
