At lunchtime, Xu Wan and Jiang Tingzhou cooked a sumptuous lunch for Xu Pingrong, and then the three of them sat down to eat together.
In the evening, Jiang Tingzhou booked a restaurant with a beautiful garden.
The family arrived at the restaurant around 5 p.m. Xu Wan accompanied Xu Pingrong for a stroll in the garden, while Jiang Tingzhou chose to stay in the private room so that the mother and daughter could have some time alone.
It was already late autumn.
The garden wasn't as lush and green as it was in spring and summer. Large swaths of yellow, withered leaves fell, layer upon layer, onto the pebbly path, yet it still created a unique scene.
"I really didn't expect that so much would have changed in just ten years."
Xu Pingrong looked up at the tall buildings in the distance and couldn't help but sigh.
"Mom, actually some things haven't changed. Tomorrow I'll take you, your aunt, and your grandma out for dinner, and the day after tomorrow I'll have dinner with my mother-in-law. After that, I'll save up my vacation days and take you to different places."
Xu Wan, arm in arm with Xu Pingrong, felt as happy as if she were in a dream.
"Your mother-in-law? Does your mother-in-law know about my situation?"
Xu Pingrong's biggest fear is that he will hold his daughter back.
"She knows. She was the one who sent the bouquet of flowers yesterday. She's a very nice person. You'll see when you meet her."
When Xu Wan said this, you could see the hesitation on Xu Pingrong's face.
She suddenly thought of herself before she knew Ling Ya's identity.
That's the kind of concern I'm making.
The two walked around a corner and saw a pavilion ahead, where a woman was standing on the phone.
Xu Wan didn't think much of it and led her mother toward the pavilion.
"Nothing of the sort. It's all a misunderstanding. My husband knows what he's doing. These are just rumors spread by malicious people. If that were true, would I be able to answer your call so calmly?"
The sound of the woman answering the phone inside the pavilion could be heard outside.
Xu Wan was hesitating whether to go in when the woman in the pavilion looked over after hanging up the phone.
Xu Wan had never seen this woman before, but felt that her facial features looked somewhat familiar.
The woman glanced at Xu Wan, then her gaze fell on Xu Pingrong's face. After looking at him carefully for a while, she asked uncertainly, "Are you... Xu Pingrong?"
Xu Wan was startled.
I never expected my mother to run into an acquaintance here.
In her memory, her mother had always lived in Yinyi Town, and then she went to prison. She never expected to have an acquaintance in Beicheng.
Is it a classmate from before?
Xu Pingrong was stunned for a moment, looked at her for a long time, and then suddenly said, "It's Madam An."
Is your surname An?
Upon hearing this surname, Xu Wan finally realized why the woman in front of her looked so familiar!
This woman's features are somewhat similar to An Yunya's, and she looks to be only in her thirties.
Thinking of Ling Ya's youthful face, Xu Wan guessed that this woman might be An Yun Ya's mother.
My own mother actually knows An Yunya's mother?!
This woman was Xiao Yinlan.
She had never met Xu Wan before.
"Long time no see." Xiao Yinlan stepped out of the pavilion and said in a friendly tone, "I really didn't expect to run into you here. Are you here for dinner too?"
"Yes, yes, my daughter and son-in-law invited me to dinner," Xu Pingrong replied.
Xiao Yinlan turned her gaze to Xu Wan and asked with a smile, "This must be Meng Wan, right? It's been so many years, you've grown into a beautiful young woman."
Xu Wan was also surprised that An Yunya's mother actually knew her!
Xu Pingrong quickly said, "She's not called Meng Wan anymore. She now shares my surname and is called Xu Wan."
"Xu Wan?" Xiao Yinlan's gaze shifted to Xu Wan, her previously friendly expression instantly turning hostile. She confirmed again, "Xu Wan?"
Xu Pingrong was surprised by Xiao Yinlan's sudden change.
Before she could answer, Xiao Yinlan asked again, "Then is your son-in-law Jiang Tingzhou?"
"Ah, yes, yes."
Xu Pingrong had absolutely no idea what was going on.
Xu Wan didn't want her mother to know what had happened. She took her mother's arm and said to Xiao Yinlan, "Mrs. An, it's cold outside, and my mother isn't feeling well. I'll take her back to the private room first."
Xiao Yinlan smiled again, "Go ahead, go ahead."
After the two had walked a short distance, Xu Wan finally asked, "Mom, how do you know her?"
