While the light was red, Ji Tong glanced at his phone screen and said, "Beautiful Meng, what brings you to call me?"
The woman on the phone was named Meng Xiang, Ji Tong's high school classmate. The two had a good relationship in high school, but Meng Xiang went abroad to study and later got married there. The two hadn't been in contact for a long time.
"Hehe, I recently went back to China and am planning a class reunion. I'm thinking of inviting six close old classmates, one of whom is you. I'll see if you'll do me the honor. If you don't, then there will only be five of us."
Meng Xiang didn't beat around the bush and directly stated the purpose of her call.
As Ji Tong watched the traffic light turn from red to green, she turned on her Bluetooth headset, put it on, and asked while driving, "Tell me who's coming? If it's someone I hate, I'm not going."
Ji Tong attended a private high school where cliques were rampant, and she didn't get along well with many people.
"Oh dear, can I invite someone you don't like?"
As Meng Xiang spoke, she named several people.
Ji Tong listened to them all; she did have a good relationship with these people in high school.
Only after counting the number of people did they ask, "There are only three of them. If we add the two of us, there are only five. We are still one short."
"The one that's missing..." Meng Xiang chuckled on the other end of the phone, "is the mystery guest I invited for you."
Ji Tongzhen was afraid that she would invite someone she didn't get along with in high school, so she said warily, "Tell me who it is. If you don't tell me, I won't go. Otherwise, it might be someone I didn't get along with back then, and my surprise will turn into a shock."
"Oh dear, it won't be a shock, don't worry at all!" Meng Xiang emphasized, "It really is a surprise prepared especially for you."
"No surprises, just tell me already, or I'm rejecting it."
Ji Tong did not believe Meng Xiang.
This ancestor loved playing pranks without thinking back to high school. If she hadn't known that Meng Xiang wasn't a bad person, the two of them would have broken up long ago.
"Oh, Lin Shu, Lin Shu! I wanted to surprise you, but you're being so cautious!" Meng Xiang complained before continuing, "You have time, right? You'll definitely come, won't you?"
Upon hearing the name Lin Shu, Ji Tong was even somewhat dazed.
Lin Shu was Ji Tong's senior in high school, one year ahead of them.
Ji Tong attended a private high school where some students got in through their parents' connections, didn't take the college entrance exam, and didn't study hard, so the teachers couldn't control them.
Another group consists of top students whom the school hires with scholarships.
Neither of these two types of students would concede to the other, but they would both listen to the student council president, Lin Shu.
She genuinely liked Lin Shu for several years until rumors circulated that a girl had an abortion for him. Later, Lin Shu went abroad and left, and her relationship came to an end.
Ji Tong recalled the past and said, "He wasn't in the same grade as us, so what kind of old classmate is he?"
“There was a time when you weren’t very close to him, I guess you could say that,” Meng Xiang said with a smile. “I met him at a fellow countrymen’s gathering abroad, and when I mentioned you, he said he remembered you.”
"I just remember. I still remember several of my high school classmates."
"Oh dear, I saw your post on WeChat Moments the other day complaining about going on another blind date. I asked him about it, and he's still single. Maybe you two will have a story if you meet."
Meng Xiang didn't give Ji Tong much time to think and asked directly, "Are you coming or not? Just say the word."
Thinking of Gong Yanli's complicated and tangled attitude towards his ex-girlfriend earlier, Ji Tong decisively replied, "Go away."
Everyone has a first love.
