Chapter 7 Meeting the Family

"Your uncle is at work, and he probably won't be back for several days." Grandma thought she wanted her uncle to see her too, so she said, "Why don't you bring your boyfriend? We can get together again when your uncle comes back."

Xu Jiashan is 46 years old this year. When he was young, he had a stable job, but he was fired from his job because of gambling, and his wife and son also divorced him.

After being a freeloader at home for several years, I finally found a job driving a long-haul truck because I had an A2 driver's license, and I was often away from home.

"Okay, let's go back now."

Xu Wan felt much more relaxed knowing that Xu Jiashan wasn't home.

At least it won't make the meeting too awkward.

She went back to the law firm, put her things down, and then got back into her car.

Jiang Tingzhou slowed down less than ten minutes after leaving the law firm, and looked at a nearby residential complex, saying, "The apartment the company rented for me is in this complex. I'll take you to see it when I have time."

"Here?" Xu Wan was stunned. "The houses in this neighborhood are very expensive. Your company is treating you way too well."

"Well, after all, I'm an important asset to the company," Jiang Tingzhou lied without batting an eye.

Xu Wan chuckled, "I felt it."

"By the way, I'll book the restaurant. But to avoid giving myself away later, let me give you a brief introduction first. I eat spicy food, I don't have any food restrictions, I don't smoke, I drink when I'm socializing, and I work for Tianwei Group." After Jiang Tingzhou finished speaking, he asked, "And you? What do you like to eat? What kind of gifts do you like?"

"I'm not a picky eater. As long as I'm full, I'm fine. I don't have any particular favorites."

Xu Wan spent her childhood living with her parents in a small town. Back then, having enough to eat and getting through each day peacefully was the happiest thing for her.

As for what I like to eat or what I want, those are things I dare not even dream of.

As adults, suppressing one's own preferences becomes a habit.

The car drove up to the Xu family's building.

Jiang Tingzhou took out the prepared gifts from the trunk.

Xu Wan had initially thought they were just some ordinary health supplements, but when the man took them out, she discovered that they were actually expensive items like cordyceps, ginseng, and sea cucumber.

Especially those boxes of cordyceps, each one in a bundle was as thick as a little finger, clearly very valuable.

"These are too expensive..." Xu Wan was a little confused. "If my grandma knew you bought such expensive things, she definitely wouldn't accept them."

“It’s not expensive. These things are all overpriced. My friend is a distributor, and he gave me insider prices, which are much cheaper than buying them at the counter.” Jiang Tingzhou had already prepared his answer.

Xu Wan breathed a slight sigh of relief. "How much is it in total? I'll transfer the money to you via WeChat in a bit."

"What?"

"We've only just met, and you've already gone to so much trouble for us..."

"Your grandmother is back."

Xu Wan turned around following Jiang Tingzhou's gaze and saw her grandmother carrying two or three bags of fruit, walking towards them.

Xu Wan ran to her grandmother's side and took the things from the old woman's hands.

When Jiang Tingzhou came over, Xu Wan introduced him, "Grandma, let me introduce you. This is Jiang Tingzhou, the boyfriend I mentioned to you before."

My maternal grandmother's full name is Liu Yingjun, and she is 69 years old this year.

The old lady was in good health when she was young, but she aged a lot in just a few years after Xu Wan's mother went to prison.

My eyesight has deteriorated, my hearing has declined, and I can't even straighten my back when I walk.

She looked up, squinting at Jiang Tingzhou, and called out, "Jiang Xuanzhou?"

“No, his name is Jiang Tingzhou, not that Jiang Xuanzhou,” Xu Wanxian corrected.

"Grandma, my real name is Jiang Tingzhou."

Jiang Tingzhou followed up on her words.

A kind smile appeared on Liu Yingjun's wrinkled face. "Good child, good child, let's talk about it slowly when we get home."

After the three entered the room, Xu Wan took the initiative to wash the fruit.

After she brought the fruit over, Liu Yingjun asked her, "Wanwan, I heard you arguing with your uncle yesterday. You and this lawyer Jiang have already registered your marriage, right?"
