For a while, Xu Wan was really, really afraid of people talking about her mother.
During that time, she didn't even dare to go to school. Every time, she would carry her schoolbag and run to an unfinished building in Yinyi Town to cry, staying there for a whole day before going back at night.
At that time, her father was killed and her mother was imprisoned, and no one cared about her.
It took her more than a month to overcome the difficulties and return to school.
An incident where a senior's mother scolded her during her university years made her afraid to find a boyfriend.
Fortunately, she met Jiang Tingzhou.
Xu Wan didn't react to Dong Yuanyuan's sarcasm at all, and said in a very calm tone: "If you like her, go after her yourself. I'm married."
"Huh?!" Dong Yuanyuan was stunned. "You're married?"
Xu Wan raised her head and calmly met Dong Yuanyuan's gaze. "Yes, I am married. My husband is very aware of my family's situation and is willing to accept it."
She said everything she wanted to say.
Dong Yuanyuan opened her mouth, but for a moment she didn't know what to say. Her gaze fell on Xu Wan's left hand, looking at the few bare fingers, and asked, "Then why aren't you wearing a wedding ring? Are you trying to pretend you're single?"
"We just got married, and the wedding rings have been ordered, but they won't arrive until next week," Xu Wan explained patiently.
She didn't want others to misunderstand Jiang Tingzhou.
"Tsk, people actually get engaged only after they're getting married? You're not so afraid someone will run away that you're rushing to get the marriage certificate, are you?" Dong Yuanyuan said deliberately. "How about having him pick you up tonight? Let me see."
"Why are you so interested in my husband?" Xu Wan asked.
Dong Yuanyuan gave a disdainful look. "Me, interested? Am I out of my mind? You're someone who, even if you're good-looking, with your mother in jail, you're bound to find no good ones. Keep your 'kappa husband' for yourself!"
Xu Wan was too lazy to argue with Dong Yuanyuan.
They would never do something like calling Jiang Tingzhou over just to prove something.
I won't give Dong Yuanyuan that face!
After Dong Yuanyuan finished her makeup, she went to find the other interns like a butterfly. Everyone was getting ready to leave, and Xu Wan finally turned off her computer and left with them.
The dinner was booked by He Wenqian; it was a mid-range restaurant near the law firm.
After entering, Xu Wan sat next to Su Qiong.
The person sitting to her left was a new intern, a boy, who was fair-skinned and dressed in a T-shirt and jeans, still looking like a student.
As soon as he sat down, Dong Yuanyuan said to the boy, "Pei Zhao, what are you doing sitting over there? The senior next to you is already married. You have no chance. Find another seat."
Xu Wan was too lazy to speak.
Su Qiong said, "What's going on here? Today's dinner is for colleagues to get to know each other. If it was for a blind date, you should have said so earlier, then we wouldn't have come."
"No, no," He Wenqian tried to smooth things over, glaring at Dong Yuanyuan. "What are you doing? Thinking about dating on your first day at the law firm? Focus on your work, or you won't even pass your internship!"
Dong Yuanyuan stopped talking.
After ordering the food, He Wenqian wanted to have his subordinates drink, but Su Qiong immediately stopped him.
He Wenqian could only suggest that everyone hold up their drinks and introduce themselves.
The four interns quickly began introducing themselves.
The first one was Pei Zhao, who was sitting next to Xu Wan.
The young man stood up and introduced himself confidently: "Hello everyone, seniors and colleagues. My name is Pei Zhao. I am 25 years old. I studied at China University of Political Science and Law for both my undergraduate and master's degrees. I am honored to join Tianyuan Law Firm. I hope I can make rapid progress and keep up with everyone."
Pei Zhao is right.
The two interns who followed him also used him as a template, stating their age and school.
Finally, it was Dong Yuanyuan's turn. She stood up and simply said, "Hello everyone, my name is Dong Yuanyuan. I hope we can get along well."
After she finished speaking, everyone understood.
I'm probably embarrassed to say I didn't graduate from a prestigious university.
When the atmosphere became a little awkward, He Wenqian changed the subject: "Come on, tell me why you chose the legal profession, do you have any idols or anything?"
All eyes turned to Pei Zhao, tacitly agreeing that he should speak first.
Pei Zhaojian said firmly, "I decided to choose this profession because of a lawyer named Jiang Xuanzhou."
