Business Plan
The midday sun was as scorching as a stepmother's heart. As soon as You Jiale jumped out of the car, a wave of heat hit him. He couldn't help but groan inwardly, "This awful weather is going to kill me!"
Just as You Jiale felt like she was about to turn into a piece of roast meat, a vendor pushing a cart with bamboo baskets on it wobbled over.
"Boss, plum juice, chilled, it'll quench your thirst and cool you down."
You Jiale's eyes lit up, and she quickly turned to look at Zhang Xiande, who was walking in front of her, with a hint of coquetry, "Boss, can you buy me a glass of plum juice? I'm so thirsty, and if I die of thirst, no one will help you with your work!"
Zhang Xiande paused for a moment, but without looking up, he said, "Hmm."
"Wow!" You Jiale thought to himself with a smile. He had thought this big shot would be hard to talk to, but he hadn't expected him to be so agreeable today. He quickly ran up to the vendor and said happily, "Thank you, boss!"
The vendor deftly pulled two rough porcelain bowls from his bamboo basket, filled with dark-colored plum juice, with a few ice cubes bubbling away. You Jiale took them, then turned and eagerly handed one bowl to Zhang Xiande, while impatiently scooping up the other and gulping it down.
The cool, sweet and sour taste slid down his throat instantly, pulling You Jiale back to his senses. He let out a comfortable "ha," took a long breath, and muttered, "On a day like this, if you don't have something cool, you'll easily go crazy."
Zhang Xiande took the plum juice, glanced at You Jiale, and continued walking. His suit was impeccably tailored, without a single wrinkle, his back straight, his expression as calm as ever, not a drop of sweat on his face. You Jiale watched his retreating figure and couldn't help but mutter to herself: "Truly the treatment of a leading man, he's got a built-in temperature control system."
Looking at myself, I'd only been standing for ten minutes, and my back was already sticky with sweat; it was so uncomfortable.
Just then, out of the corner of her eye, You Jiale caught sight of a group of workers casually sitting on the ground eating their meal under an old elm tree by the roadside. Each of them had a metal lunchbox in front of them, containing simple, coarse food—mostly cold rice with a few pickled vegetables. Next to them were enamel mugs or glass kettles, the tea leaves having been steeped several times and long since lost their color.
As You Jiale watched this scene, it was as if a bolt of lightning had struck her mind, and a thought suddenly popped into her head.
takeout!
If you want to do business, you have to do something that no one has done in this era, and it has to be a business model that is already mature in modern times and can be directly copied.
In the Republic of China era, the concept of "takeout" did not exist. At most, restaurant staff would deliver food, and waiters would deliver dishes to nearby customers, but these were all limited to a very small area.
You Jiale's mind started racing.
What if we could transplant the entire system, like in later generations—online food ordering, then dividing delivery areas by region to create a city-wide "delivery network"? This business model would undoubtedly grow exponentially, like a rocket, expanding beyond just city-level operations to the entire country. Moreover, it would solve the most pressing problem: time.
This will not only make things easier for workers toiling under the scorching sun, but also allow government agencies, office buildings, and hospitals to become its clients.
He even came up with the delivery drivers' uniforms, vehicles, route planning, and various meal combinations... This could practically boost GDP!
A blueprint for a small business empire was rapidly taking shape in his mind, making him so excited that his hands trembled slightly.
"What are you thinking about?" Zhang Xiande's voice suddenly rang out.
You Jiale snapped out of her daze, a grin immediately spreading across her face. She quickly finished the rest of her plum juice in one gulp. "Boss, please wait a moment. Let me go back and organize my thoughts, then I'll give you a detailed report!"
Zhang Xiande stopped, turned around, and stared intently at You Jiale. After a long while, he finally uttered a soft "hmm."
You Jiale shook the empty plum juice bowl in his hand, looking like a shrewd businessman who had just discovered a gold mine, with an uncontrollable excitement on his face.
By the time the site was surveyed, the sun was almost setting, and the sky was a fiery red, as if a pot of paint had been spilled.
Back in his office, Zhang Xiande pulled a silver cigarette case from his breast pocket. He slowly took out a cigarette, deftly flicked the match, and with a 'snap,' the flame went out. The bluish-white smoke slowly rose, blurring his expressionless face.
Through the hazy smoke, he glanced at You Jiale: "Tell me your thoughts."
Xiao You felt Zhang Xiande's gaze and knew perfectly well that the other man had noticed his momentary lapse in concentration and the sudden thought that had crossed his mind. He steadied himself, quickly gathering the jumbled thoughts that had just popped into his head, and leaned forward slightly. "Boss," he said, "let me tell you, just now at that construction site in the south, watching the way those workers ate, I suddenly had a flash of inspiration. I think we might be able to start a new business, and it's definitely the kind that can be huge!"
Zhang Xiande flicked his cigarette ash, signaling him to continue.
Seeing that the boss didn't interrupt him, You Jiale became much bolder. "Look, these days, many people, like construction workers, work all day under the scorching sun and want something hot to eat. Or people in government offices, who are so busy they barely have time to breathe, might need to buy something urgently. Do you think it's convenient? Of course not. Either they have to go and buy it themselves, which is exhausting and time-consuming; or they have to ask someone to deliver it for them, but where can they find someone? Even if they do find someone, they might not be willing to make the trip. Besides, most restaurants and shops these days only care about their own business and rarely offer delivery services."
He paused, secretly glancing at Zhang Xiande's expression, and seeing no change, said, "So I was thinking, could we set up a dedicated 'delivery' organization? This organization wouldn't belong to any restaurant or shop; it would just specialize in this, running errands and delivering things. When the time comes, if people want to eat or buy something, they can just call our 'delivery' service, and we'll be responsible for delivering it to them."
Yu Jiale's voice rose several octaves as she spoke, "With this 'delivery' service, people no longer need to search the streets for different restaurants, nor do they need to haggle with the shop assistants to have it delivered, and they don't have to run themselves ragged. For example, someone might want to eat the famous pastries from that old-established shop in the east of the city, but it's too far, and they don't know how to get it delivered, nor do they have the time to go there themselves. Now, with our 'delivery' service, they can just tell us what they want. As long as it's something available in the market, they only need to pay for it, and we'll take care of everything else! Our 'delivery' service is here to solve these troublesome problems for everyone; all you need to do is pay a small delivery fee!"
Zhang Xiande finished his cigarette, stubbed it out in the ashtray, and then slowly spoke, "An organization that specializes in errand delivery?" He looked up at You Jiale.
You Jiale felt a little uneasy under his gaze, but she still braced herself and spoke with a sly glint in her eyes: "Yes, and most importantly, no one else on the market is doing this yet! If we're the first to try it, we can definitely take over the market and become the leader in this industry!"
He seemed to have discovered a gold mine, exclaiming, "Once this model is successful in one place, it can be completely replicated elsewhere, just like printing! The speed of expansion and the profits are far beyond what those old industries can match! Moreover, it can provide the government with a new source of tax revenue, and perhaps even reduce the government's dependence on traditional businesses like us to some extent!"
"Only when the government can benefit from new economic growth points can it reduce the excessive exploitation of existing traditional enterprises."
After saying that, he looked at Zhang Xiande expectantly, asking with a hint of flattery, "Boss, what do you think of this idea?"
Zhang Xiande looked out the window; the sun was slowly setting, and the rosy clouds on the horizon were gradually fading. "You can first prepare a detailed plan for this matter. If it's feasible, then we'll discuss it further."
